I don't like it, but I think MIN needs to add Mayo, and worry about the salaries next year. They have lots of things that would help MEM right now:

- Anthony Randolph (cheap big + upside)
- Anthony Tolliver (cheap big + vet with defense)
- Wayne Ellington (takes some of Mayo's back-up minutes)
- Luke Ridnour (reliable back-up that you can start, if you want to send back a PG)
- MEM 1st returned (prot Top 14), skip the stepien rule

The key here is filling your roster to meet playoff needs, but not going over the lux now, or next year. Bigs are especially hard to find that aren't expensive.

pick two .. maybe three with ellington.

Talent wise that might be a nice deal for the Grizzlies, but Conley plays an extremely valuable role for this team. If they lost him (and didn't replace him with someone that had a very similar skillset) then Memphis would be in trouble.

What do you guys think of a JJ Redick/OJ Mayo swap?

That's a tough one. Memphis can definitely use a long range shooter. That's why there was a post about Mayo to the Nets for Mathews.

But neither Mathews or Redick is as versatile as Mayo off the bench. Which attribute is more valueable to Memphis?

What about Channing Frye for OJ Mayo?

Frye can spread the floor, Is a better rebounder than people give him credit. Really cheap contract NBA wise. When Zach comes back you can have a rotation of Gasol, Zach and Frye.

It's an interesting idea, but his skillset overlaps with Rudy Gay's so much that it kind of seems unnecessary. If he were maybe a little bit better defensively or as a rebounder, maybe, but I don't really love him on the Grizzlies.

I think shrink has a point, Memphis and Minny should be good trade partners.

Wes Johnson and Martell Webster would have to be on the table as well.

I'm not saying they must be in the deal, but they would have to be among the players Memphis could choose from to form a package.

Just read what I wrote above. Sorry, yes I mean Morrow not Matthews.

I got tickets to the Portland/OKC game in March in Portland(a 5 hour drive for me from Vancouver,Canada). I must have had the Blazers on my brain.

If we have no intention of paying Mayo this summer, we need to take the Nets deal for Morrow IMO.

Would you trade Mayo for the TPE Lakers obtained from the Odom trade?

Nah, the Lakers' TPE is not much of a 3 point shooter

Frye is a very good defender. Not great but good. Frye is 6'11 that rebounds better than people give him credit. His knowed for a three point threat but hes more than that. I thunk that's good value for OJ Mayo.

The reason why Frye is expandable now is because of Kieff Morris who is Frye but a younger body.

Here's one that's sure to make you fall asleep, but I think fills a lot of holes.

bigtimegrizz wrote:a few points which are my opinion of where the grizz are going and what they might be looking for oj

-davis is nonguaranteed if memphis is concerned about the lux tax that much they will just cut him.

-pondexter is not going anywhere. hollins loves the guy and hes on a great contract.

-i dont think tolliver is attractive to us. we have enough depth to get us by until randolph gets back.

-i think cunningham and speights has signaled the end of darrell arthur in memphis.

-i also believe sam young will be resigned which goes back to my earlier post memphis just needs to get a quality back up center and a good shooter to replace oj and arthur and the roster is set. ellington and darko both have contracts that would keep memphis under the tax and fill the holes we need. it just comes down to what their price is.

-if you want memphis to part w oj it has to be based on our needs not just that we are looking to avoid the tax. i think you guys are not giving heisley enough credit. if oj plays well he may very well pay him and be willing to go into the tax to keep this group together.

shrink wrote:I ran the numbers, and MEM is over the lux by $410,701.

$70,717,701 salary per storyteller
$70,307,000 lux threshold
$410,701 OVER

That costs them an extra $3.4 mil, so I expect they will probably let unguaranteed Josh Davis go after a few weeks, to slide under the lux. He's certainly not worth an extra $3.4 mil to the Grizz.

Anyway, a good MEM trade is going to fill the team's holes, move unproductive salary, and slide them under the lux.

Mayo (5,632,637) + Darrell Arthur (2,027,119) + Josh Davis (885,120) = $8,544,876

Sure, $8.5 mil for Mayo's production doesn't produce a whole lot of trade value, but if that's your package, what you get in return needs to be under $8,134,175 ($8.5 - $0.4)

Darko (4,776,500) + Ellington (1,154,040) + Tolliver (2,050,000) = $7,980,540. That'd be my offer.

MIN GETS: Mayo + Arthur (inj) + Davis (waived)
MEM GETS: Darko + Ellington + Tolliver + $564,336 cap space to get MEM under the lux

PG 1. Conley 2. Selby 3. Pargo
SG 1. Tony Allen 2. Ellington
SF 1. Rudy Gay 2. Sam Young 3. Pondexter
PF 1. Speights 2. Tolliver 3. Dante Cunningham 3. 4. Zach Randolph (inj)
C 1. Marc Gasol 2. Darko

Would Memphis be interested in Austin Daye, Will Bynum, Ben Wallace and Detroit's high 2nd for Mayo and Sam Young? Daye gives you a shooter with size, Bynum gives you a scorer off the bench, Ben can eat some big time while waiting for Randolph to return.

Gerald Wallace
Wesley Matthews
Nicolas Batum
Nolan Smith

for

Rudy Gay
Tony Allen
Sam Young
Pargo or Shelby

(Until Randolph returns):
Conley / Smith / Pargo or Shelby
Matthews / Mayo
Batum / Pondexter
Wallace / Cunningham
Gasol / Speights / Haddadi

(When Z-Bo returns):
Conley / Smith / Pargo or Shelby
Matthews / Mayo
Wallace / Batum / Pondexter
Randolph / Cunningham
Gasol / Speights / Haddadi
Dammit...:

I've got Nurkic fever now.
