Official Tottenham Hotspur Thread

Post#1 » by Ted Lasso » Fri Jan 6, 2012 3:10 am

I've only recently discovered the soccer board and i hope to post here regularly. I figured a Tottenham Hotspur thread was needed. I'll get the discussion going and, hopefully, others will join whether they are Tottenham fans or not.

Re: Tottenham Hotspur F.C.

Harry's recent tactical setup has been particularly exciting for me. When i play with Tottenham on Fifa, i end up ditching Lennon in favor of an extra central midfielder, and because i don't like to play Van der Vaart out on the right, i switch to a 4-3-2-1. In fact, on Fifa 11, after two seasons, I had signed Samir Handanovic, Eliaquim Mangala, Leighton Baines, Scott Parker, Lassana Diarra, and Emmanuel Adebayor (before we actually picked up Parker and Adebayor for real), and my first choice line-up looked very much like today's Tottenham side.

Obviously, in practice, it's not a pure 4-3-2-1. It doesn't quite go down the way it did when Kaka and Seedorf were paired by Ancelotti, because Bale is a winger in nature and he likes to drift deep and wide when he can in order to make runs, but the whole experiment has been very pleasing for me because i've long favored such a move and wondered whether Harry would opt for it.

In closure, let me add that the formation change has only been Redknapp's second best move this season. I can only hope that my Toronto Raptors can learn from the way he masterfully tanked his way out of the Europa League on their way to the top of the 2012 NBA Draft. I cannot wait till United and City start playing the likes of Ajax and Porto while we rest. :D

I think you might be the only person that would post on this thread. Unless somebody wants to troll you.

I didn't think there were computers in N17 yet.

A couple decent seasons and all the Spurs fans are coming out of the woodwork. There's the overwhelming stink of mothballs all over North London as they pull their old kits out from the bottoms of closets.

I like the Spurs. Better them in the top 4 than City or Chelsea.

If they can add some depth and a genuine back up striker of quality they can be a handful on their day. I think as things stand a top 3 spot is for theirs to lose this season and if that happens I wonder if City will sell Adebayor to them easily.

I like Jürgen Klinsmann, does that count?

What a fun team. They're playing the best ball in England right now.

This Wednesday is their missing game, they kept missing their chances to get closer to the Manchersters, hope they won't miss this time.

In theory, we've got some good depth. It's tough to know whether the likes of Kranjcar and Pienaar are still reliable because many of them have dealt with injuries and they rarely get Premier League starts when they're fit. Harry is no Tinkerman, that's for sure. And that's a good reason not to attempt to add depth via veterans who expect to play but are unlikely to get in the team often.

I think the way to go for us is promising youngsters or those quality players that Redknapp keeps talking about. The ones who would be putting us over the top at their respective positions. Along those lines, i'd say we definitely need a centre back, possibly a right winger, and eventually a goalkeeper.

A win against Everton puts us level with United, and just three points away from City. That would be a great start.

Frankly, i think it's best to be prudent about the team's growth. I'd be perfectly happy with a 3rd place finish. We've got our finances in order. We have a proper manager. And we've made some excellent moves recently. We'll get more competitive in time.

Gotta take care of the stadium business, and boost our wage structure in order to keep our best players though.

As a player, yes. As a coach? Not so much. He was terrible in Munich and his success in the national team was build hugely on Löw making tactics and Klinsmann motivating guys.

I heard Lahm even wrote in his book that Munich's players at some point met alone to discuss tactics because Klinsmann had no clue about it.

As a player, he was a terrific striker and it helps that I've met him a couple of times. He was useless as a coach.

"The other week, one of the lads told him that he had not paid his £50 fine for being the worst player in training on a Friday morning. One of the lads said to him: 'Bloody hell, Ade, you are on 200 grand a week and you can't afford to pay a £50 fine!' He replied: 'Don't insult me, it's 225!'." Redknapp added: "He certainly isn't getting that here."

Gotta love Harry!

So to sum up the window, we've allowed Bassong, Corluka, Pienaar, and Pavlyuchenko to leave, and we've brought in Louis Saha.

We have no cover at right back and precious little on the wings. I don't know what Levy and Redknapp were thinking. A year ago, Harry was going on about how the Chairman was ready to pay 30 million for a player. Now, all of a sudden, we can't afford Milos Krasic, despite the fact that we've continually profited off transfers since then.

Perplexing, to say the least.

You can't tell me that Saha is better than Pavlyuchenko.

Of course not.

But he's an older player who'll be much more accepting of his reserve role. The Pav/Saha swap was the least bad thing that happened to us yesterday. It's an acceptable move by a team that is --it turns out-- working on a tight budget.

The Corluka loan, on the other hand, was simply baffling.

For some reason Harry is very hesitant to sell Corluka. Corluka wanted first team action to prepare for the Euro with Croatia this summer which is why he got the loan move.

I don't know why Kranjcar is still there. He doesn't play at all and would contribute a lot to say a mid table Premier League team.
I'd always thought of propane as a dignified lady. But she can also be a dirty girl.
