With great hype comes great expectations, i'm not surprised he's been put under a microscope.

Kemba is not a pg
He has no discernible pg skills whatsoever.

That's deep analysis, man. How many hours of research did you spend coming up with this groundbreaking theory?

Kemba is a PG, he just needs time to develop those skills, Everyone thought DJ was a combo guard off the bench but look how he turned out, Lets give Kemba some time before writing him off to be a Jason Terry clone

That's pretty wishful thinking.
DJ is a midget combo guard. 17/7 are Arenas Jr. numbers. A good bit of the offense still runs through Diaw. Kemba will be the same type of player, hopefully better than DJ. He might even make Raymond Felton status. Might being the key word.

Do you disagree? I grew up an hour away from Philly and watched the original KW; AI. Now, to Kemba's credit, he's much more likeable than Iverson, but their games are quite similar; pound the ball into the floor for twenty seconds, looking off several teammates and not moving the ball at all and then chucking up an off balance twenty footer or driving crazily to the hoop hoping for the "and 1". Again, KW is very likeable, but his game will very quickly wear thin and drive team mates, coaches and fans alike crazy. He's a good spark off the bench, not a top notch starting pg in this league.

Based on what? I've watched every game thus far and don't see any pg skills at all. He's an undersized low efficiency sg; a good spark off of the bench, nothing more, nothing less.

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
I don't see greatness in Kemba, beyond his attitude and desire. I think MJ looks for the fire too often in players, and when he finds it, ignores the dangerous gaps in their abilities. Just because MJ was able to work enough on his jump shot doesn't mean others can also go from "average" to "deadly".
I like Kemba, and hope he does grow into a special player; I just think his limitations are every bit as pronounced as DJ's.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
People are making too big of a deal about rather Kemba Walker is a pass-first PG or not. That individual attribute has been blown out of proportion and is entirely overrated. If you look over history, the past couple of NBA Championship success stories have featured a starting PG that didn't or barely averaged over 6 assist per game in that particular season. You got Derek Fisher of the Los Angeles Lakers, Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs, Chauncey Billups of the Detroit Pistons, all the way back to Ron Harper (or Scottie Pippen) of the Chicago Bulls (or Los Angeles Lakers), and the list goes on. The only exception was Jason Kidd of last season's Dallas Mavericks. What more can I say?

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
wow give KW time guys, hell first off its hard to be a pass first PG when the best scorer on the team plays the exact same position. Also lets consider that Walker is probably the 2nd best scorer on the team, and after him all of a sudden it becomes hard to name scorers period. I mean who is Kemba supposed to leech assists off of? Boris Diaw (the magic 2 FGM man), DJ White (Sir Deserves to play more), Gerald Henderson (whos been inconsistent as hell with his shot...)... Kembas best shot at getting assists literally rests on passing the ball to BJ Mullens who 99% of the time chucks up the Ball. I would say that Henderson is a good scoring option but this year he hasnt been..... DJ Augustin has been playing VERY well, but Kemba Walker has been playing pretty darn well with the minuetes and team he has been given. I have a feeling that Walkers shot will start falling as he adjusts to the NBA and when that starts to happen he will become quite the scorer.
-----------------------------------
Also if we are going to have 2 lotto picks then this is the year to do it, Augustin has been playing well enough to perhaps luer a PG needy team to trade for him as this years draft lacks much PG talent, I would not be surprised to see teams such as the Raptors (who clearly need a PG), the Bucks (who clearly need a real PG), the Mavs (Jason Kidd looks like hes about to roll over and die), the Hornets (DJ Augustin has outplayed CP3 on offense this year), the Magic (Nelsons done... Just done...), the Knicks, the Hawks, or the Jazz reach out to us for DJ....

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
10 games, that's all it has been, 10 games in a lockout shortened season with no summer league, no legit training camp in a rookie season. Why must we all knee jerk? Why do we do this every time? Is patience long forgotten?

Re: The Kemba Walker Thread
I think the key is to look for flashes, especially with the shortened preseason and no summer league. Mixed in with the bad have been some flashes of good PG play - there have been a lot of times he's run the pick-and-pop and found Diaw and Mullens unguarded. There have been a couple good screen and rolls finding guys flashing to the basket. There have been times he's broken down the D with his own change of direction, or splitting the double-team, and found bigs for easy shots. In the Houston game he came in and ran some good sets to get Matt Carroll jumpers off the curl. Those Carroll assists were nothing spectacular, but the sort of routine timing play that a PG has to make when he's familiar with his personnel and the system. I admit when I'm watching, I'm looking for stuff like this - since I want to see him improve running the offense even more than I want to see him drop 20.
And, yes, there have been bad possessions. When he has tried to create his own stuff, either by his own design or due to the shot clock, that just isn't working yet consistently. I also don't like how many threes he's been shooting, because I felt like he should have stayed to his strengths this year and getting those to translate to the NBA level, rather than trying to expand his range past the three-point line. I also think he needs to watch how DJ changes gears and weaves through the paint seeing the whole floor looking for the pass, and not just go at one speed and only see the pass in front of him.
I did think he had an excellent game defensively against Houston, so he's coming along at that end of the floor.

Yeah we need to relax with the rookies. As others have said about our lack of team practice and shortened training camp. Have patience, it's not like we're going to contend anytime soon for Pete's sake.
