Francisco Cordero... available bargain?

Post#1 » by number15 » Wed Jan 11, 2012 9:23 pm

I know AA signed Santos already and gave him the closer title but this seems too good to pass up... imagine Santos setting up Francisco Cordero.

The stupid Reds made a dumb move. Cut a consistant and proven closer in Francisco Cordero, a good locker room guy too, lose him for nothing and then go on to sign Ryan Madson to a 1 year 8.5 million deal.

If Madson gets only a 1 year 8.5 million after a monster season and after being labeled as the top reliever of the offseas not long ago... Cordero should be cheap.

37... 40... 39 saves last 3 seasons

Should atleast show interest in Francisco Cordero?
.... i think so

whats there to lose.... 1 year, 7 million, what u say?

Actually seems like somebody Tampa might go after... or the Orioles.

I think we are done at the backend of the pen.

saves are meaningless

xFIP last three years
4.01
4.37
4.14

that's not good at all, the average reliever xFIP in 2011 was probably something in the range of 3.5-3.6

even more worrying is the decline in strikeouts, last year he punched out a pathetic 5.43 per 9. If he's putting up such terrible numbers in the NL Central, god only knows what will happen in the AL East

Strike outs going down, home runs going up, and he will be 37 during the season. Not someone I would trust in the AL East.

Will get Killed in the AL East, declining numbers, and a major velocity drop. Not a good signing. Also has the same SV conversion rate as Santos 86% if you want to look at saves.

Would be a waste of money to sign Cordero. He's not very good and he's got no upside.
