Re: Wolves Need to Trade Wes...
I'm actually all for hanging on to wes till the end of the year, because i've never once seen anything out of him on an nba court that would suggest he has potential for anything but spotup shooting. He's got athleticism but has poor instincts for shot blocking and seems to attract charges when he puts the ball on the deck. bbiq is his biggest weakness and that's not something people suddenly pick up. he was given the body and work ethic to play in the nba but doesn't seem to have the proper frame of mind to handle himself in the league. basically, i don't think he has any trade value so i figure we might as well ride. plus he seems like a nice guy. and i like rooting for nice guys.
edit: just saw the post above mine. perhaps we should move him within the week.

Blatche huh? Mmmm ... maybe? I'm just not sure he still has positive trade value.

I wouldn't. Williams has 3 turnovers in 9 games. Replacing Beasley with a better defender who doesn't turn the ball over would be a great improvement for our team.

Wow. 93% jumpers this year.
He should be taking full advantage of Rubio's skillset, he has the athleticism to do it. Depressing.

He's only been on the floor with Rubio for 20 minutes this year.
Which begs the question, is Ridnour just making everyone look bad? Seems like every disappointing player plays with Ridnour, not Rubio.
I would like to see Rubio play with Wes, Beasley, Love, and Darko, and Ridnour with Randolph and Williams just to see what the impact is.

Re: Wolves Need to Trade Wes...
Johnson and Rubio have had to play together in practice, though, right? If Johnson is any better with Rubio, you'd think that a HOF coach like Adelman would see it in practice and act accordingly.

I'd do these in a heartbeat.
However, I think ATL's roster needs are PG and all-around depth. I think something based around Ridnour + Toliver + Darko improves them more than adding beas. Darko adds depth to the 5 spot. Tolly can play multiple positions. Ridnour is meh but whatever.
Darko, Ridnour, Tolliver (~10.5m?) for Williams + zaza (~12m?)
Maybe toss a pick at it.

They probably have to consider $$ as much as, if not more than, improving the team. Beasley has value to them foremost because he's an expiring contract.

I think its clear that everyone is better with Rubio. He can't play the whole team with Rubio, and especially Johnson. Here's why: Barea and Luke can't play together.
Rubio can play with either.
Thus, if you're going to play Luke and Barea a fair amount of minutes, you don't have much time, if any, to play Johnson and Rubio together.

How does that not get more love? I think it's a pretty good deal for both sides. You give up talent, but get slightly worse talent that is proven, a much much better fit AND a first round draft pick in a good draft.
Chandler is as good as Beasley, a better fit with Rubio and Love and a better perimeter defender. Rudy is a great fit with Rubio and better than Wes Johnson, although Johnson is probably more talented. The first rounder in a very deep draft where good SG prospects can be had even after the lottery makes it a good deal IMO. You could even package your pick and theirs to trade up on draft night and get a guy like Jeremy Lamb.
C: Darko/Randolph/Love
PF: Love/Williams
SF: Chandler/Lamb/Williams
SG: Lamb/Rudy/Barea
PG: Rubio/Ridnour/Barea
That is one heck of a team.

Re: Wolves Need to Trade Wes...
1.) Love will not sign in MN if the team does not prove it can upgrade the roster.
2.) Rubio, though a rookie, will evolve into the same mindset soon.
Everyone else needs to start playing with a sense of urgency everytime they set foot on the floor. Outside of Tolliver, JJB, and at times Ridnour, I don't feel the rest of the players expend the necessary energy to perform on a winning team. Rubio is much more focused than I ever expected, and when I see him zeroed in through a game while these other monkeys are plodding, I have no time for it. We got players who cannot handle the ball and they are starting to stand and wait for him to create a shot FOR them ... that's part of it at times, but clearly we have guys already starting to get complacent.

Love isn't going anywhere with Rubio and Adelman here.
I'm sure that Adelman is quietly making his cut and wish list right now and when the trade deadline approaches he will tell Kahn what to do.

I mostly agree ... but acquiring mediocre players is not going to cut it for either of them. Rubio is a rookie to the NBA, but has proven more ready than most anticipated. All know Mpls is not his top choice to live and play - make no mistake - but he has indulged in the opportunity regardless. He, along with Love, will both be very attentive to see if the team is capable of adding talent in this market to win a title.
As injuries start to come into play around the league, Kahn will need to be prepared to pull the trigger ... surely, we have to assume Adelman keeps him posted on the "expendables" list, top to bottom. Outside of these scenarios, this team needs to prove willing and able to make intelligent decisions if they ever expect a quality FA to come to MN.
We are fortunate to have a couple guys returning in a couple weeks, but that too will take a couple weeks to get up to speed once activated.

Re: Wolves Need to Trade Wes...
With all of the talk about bringing in free agents and capable players, that's what this franchise's history is all about. That was always the talk when KG was here. They were never able to surround KG with enough talent. The one year they did, with Cassell and Spree, they almost (should've) won it all. Unfortunately, those two guys, especially Spree, were headcases and were only good for one season (for the most part).
This discussion is somewhat similar to what Wolves fans dealt with when KG was in Minnesota. HOPEFULLY this time around, they can keep Love AND Rubio in town and build around them. If Derrick Williams can grow into the player we think he can become, and if we add ONE more solid piece (preferably at SG), then I think they will be perennial contenders. But that's going to be tough to do.
