Jet fans; what do you think about Schottenheimer?

Theismann links Schottenheimer to Falcons on 680TheFan

Could Brian Schottenheimer, formerly of the New York Jets, be the Falcons new offensive coordinator?

NFL Network’s Joe Theismann, who knows Schottenheimer from his days coaching with the Washington Redskins, linked him to the Falcons in a radio interview this morning on 680TheFan’s morning show, the Rude Awakening with Chris Rude, Sandra Golden and Perry Laurentino.

Here’s part of the interview:

“[Brian] felt like he was saddled and limited by what Mark Sanchez can do in New York,” Theisman said. “Mark is really not that good. He’s a hard-working kid. He wants to be good. But he doesn’t understand the game of football the way Matt does.

“You have to play the position with the knowledge of where you are on the field, what the score is in the game. What [you] can do. What [you] can’t do. What are the things that are required of me. Really, the only route that Mark throws effectively is the quick post. He’s going to have a whole lot more to work with, with Matt Ryan.”

They asked him to clarify his comments.

“I’ve [unaudible] Brian was going to be the offensive coordinator.”

and yet with mark they went to 2 straight conference championship games. hmmmm.

the league is a FIGURE YOU OUT LEAGUE. and while SANCHIZE won those playoff games, the play calling remained the same. go figure?!?!?

schottenheimers figuring it out . . . Dcoordinators will decipher your gameplan if you use the same gameplan for 3 years in a row. those plays and diagrams that SANCHIZE used to win with in those playoff runs to the conference championship?? Were the same ones being used again the following year . . . and this year again . . . You cant do that in the league. You must adapt and change.

Who are the most successful Quarterbacks in the league? The ones who can make the calls and change the play at the line of scrimmage. Where the gameplan is not set in stone, but fluid and full of options. Tom brady, drew brees, aaron rodgers have offensive systems which allow them to change calls and give freedom of motion in the system.

schottenheimer is not at that level yet to give a gameplan that has wide ranging freedom and variety in his playcalling.

thats why he was not successful this year. Guarantee with new coordinators next year . . . SANCHIZE will resume his successful ways.

Two honest critiques of Brian Schottenheimer:
--he is among the slowest at calling plays and getting them into the huddle
--he is very predictable at certain down/distance situations and doesn't mix up the formations/packages well enough to disguise anything

What's interesting is that those are common criticisms of his father's teams as well. Not likely he's going to change.

I'm very curious to see what happens to The Sanchize because I think he and Schottenheimer have clearly run their course. As for BS in ATL, the current offensive sets and personnel are similar enough that it's not a dramatic makeover but more a dye job and bang trim.
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

Just because Sparano failed as a head coach in Miami, it doesn't automatically mean that he's going to fail as the offensive coordinator in New York. That type of logic makes absolutely no sense to me.

Sparano is obviously good enough of a coach that a team gave him a chance. He's also good enough for Parcells, who is viewed as one of the best coaches of all time.

Ryan brought Sparano in for a reason. He wants to dumb down his offense. He wants to rely more on the running game, which is what Sparano specializes in.
