I would argue that most of those example PGs were also just ancillary pieces for teams run by the likes of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, etc. And Parker and Billups were capable of huge assist games on a given night.
I dont particularly mind if Walker is shoot first or pass first, just that he can initiate the offense via passing when needbe. In that respect, he is still a work in progress. There are examples every game where he penetrates and then has nothing to do with the ball once he's down with the trees. Or times last night where he held onto the ball too long.
He's definitely a contributer who is going to have a long nba career but right now he seems like more of a jamal crawford / young earl Boykins / poor man's Iverson type. In otherwords, unlike some, I do not view him as a franchise cornerstone type.
I would say the difference between Lowry and DJ/Walker is in fact significant when you also factor in Lowry's status as one of the top defensive PGs in the game.
Since we're tanking the season anyway, it would be interesting to see Kemba run the point for starter minutes for a few games just to see how things play out.

Well, Kemba Walker was the #9 pick, not the #1 pick. Nevertheless, nobody ever said that he was going to be a consecutive 1st-Team All Pro or future HOF'er, but that's the type of criticism that he receives after any game where he doesn't shoot over 50% or dish out 10 assist. He's only a rookie. We don't know what type of player he will become. Walker is having just as productive of a season as Kobe Bryant, Tony Parker, or Chauncey Billups had in their respective NBA debuts. Is that supposed to be Walker's fault that he doesn't have a Michael Jordan or Tim Duncan type of great player for him to play the "ANCILLARY" role to?

*Assuming we can trade our 2012 pick after the lotto selection has been done.*
DJ, Diop, 2012 1st Pick to POR for Raymond Felton, Gerald Wallace, 2012 1st Round, 2012 2nd Round
Not that I want to see that trade happen but the lulz that would come from the fallout would be incredible.

Give it a break. We're 7-8 games in and already some people have their crystall ball analysis on Kemba...but lo and behold Mullens is the next Dirk Nowitzki.

It's pretty obvious with Kemba even when he played in college; those kinds of players do not change. It doesn't happen. He's going to be an Arenas type PG or he's going to change positions like Jason Terry did and become a SG. He's a pretty generic player with the "swag" label.
Mullens is no Dirk and will never be a Dirk. I don't even know if Mullens has hit a three pointer this year. I bet he could but I don't think he's taken one. Mullens, if he keeps it up, is Channing Frye+ which is still pretty good, especially when you look at what we gave up for him. No Dirk though.
Fan bases always overrate their players. Gerald Henderson is no Kobe (I always said Dahntay Jones but he's developing into a nice Eddie Jones/Bobby Phills type player) and DJ doesn't command the value a lot of people believe he does. Tyrus Thomas has the potential to be a great player but he's too ignorant to work out the formula. That's just how things are.

The wouldn't mind Diop on the end of the bench I think, because they lack big depth since they had to send Odom away. And they're no stranger to big contracts, they don't have any big resignings coming up, and they probably won't be making any big splashes in free agency. Since they're already above the cap and they likely will be, I don't really see them being too scared by it.
And Augustin brings what they wanted from Blake in the first place but is on the rise anyway.

Ignorance can be fixed. If it can't be fixed with NBA level coaching I don't think it's ignorance anymore.
