Trade Idea: Lopez for J-Smoove?

Post#1 » by NyCeEvO » Thu Jan 12, 2012 8:45 pm

I've always wondered if Atlanta would ever think they need to move Horford to PF and get a bigger C.

Considering that Horford just injured (which really sucks for the Hawks and I hope he gets better soon) and the Hawks playoff outlook has taken a serious blow, do you think that Atlanta could/would make a move for the future and trade Josh Smith?

There were rumors last year that Josh Smith wanted out and that we were on his preferred trade destination list.

Not only would this move give Howard a greater incentive to come to Bklyn, our post defense would get much better. Admittedly, we'd have to get a good to great scoring SF to really make a front court deadly, but that's for another discussion. Also, I don't see Atlanta getting robbed in this considering that Lopez, can AT LEAST put up 20/8.

Looks like someone from the Horford injury GB thread agrees with me:

I don't see why the hawks wouldn't do it.

I don't see why the Hawks would say no, but I see why the Nets would.

Keep Lopez and move him for Dwight. If the Magic aren't going to trade Dwight, we move Lopez + pick for Love.

Then it's up to Deron and Dwight to decide if they want Brooklyn and their good friend Kevin Love or Dirk and Dallas.

On another note, I like how the Nets have played the Hawks three of the four times we meet this season.

Then Horford gets hurt, and we don't see them again until March 23.

Brook is more valuable than Josh Smith so of course the Hawks wouldn't refuse it. Nets might, but if they had Dwight, then I think they would definitely pair Smith with Dwight.

Yeah, but that all assumes that Lopez + pick for Love is a deal that's ready to go. I'm not going to say that there's no way it happens, but I just don't see that happening unless K-Love turns on the Minny FO.

Yeah, the move is all about D12. It's really just getting another piece to reel in the giant.

I would guess a love for Lopez deal will never work. Unless the pick was a top 10 pick in 2012. Don't see why the t-wolves would trade Love. The whole idea of the trade is would be even more incentive for Dwight to sign with the Nets as a FA instead of LA or Dallas. From what I heard Magic FO isn't high on Lopez being a center piece of a deal

Don't forget that Josh Smith and Dwight have been BFFs since their high school days. At the same time though, I'm not sure if Dwight + Josh Smith is the right duo. It would be an amazing front court defensively, but Josh Smith's shooting sucks and it's better to have a shooter (ideally Kevin Love) to go along with Dwight.

^^Yeah, their defensive ability + friendship is the reason why we'd do it.

I've always advocated for a putting a good shooting stretch 4 next to Lopez, but this is assuming that there is no Love deal in the works (cuz I don't think there is lol).

Did you read the original post?

This has less to do with this season and more about a team post-D12 acquisition.

Whats the trade???I'm not a big fan of Smith but if they're taking contracts like Farmar/Petro along with Lopez I'd be more interested. It would be lob city Brooklyn style with D-Will/Smith/Dwight.

I wouldn't mind bringing J-Smoove here, but I feel ATL might have to add maybe another role player, (Willie Green). Maybe we might be able to run with him and Deron with an uptempo feel like a combination of Kidd-Kmart lite.

How would Jersey be able to afford Dwight 17, Dwill 17, Smith 13, Brooks 1, Petro 3, Farmar 4, Williams 3, Morrow 4?

That's 62 mil assuming that Shawne Williams and Farmar pick up both of their options.

But since I'd doubt it'd be just a one-for-one deal, I'm sure we'd see other players going. Adding Petro and Farmar for Jason Collins would basically get us there regardless of whether Shawne Williams picks up his option.

It's actually not that hard.

Elbowj, really, you have to stop. Stop with your bull ideas that Dallas can trade salary without the Nets being able to do it. Make the assumption that one of Farmar, Williams, or Petro will be going out with Lopez, really not that hard.

However, with that being said, Smith has a trade kicker, meaning a trade for him is an automatic no-go until next season.

Please stop pointing out flaws in blatant homerism. Everyone wants Farmar and Petro, they are important contributors to a successful NBA team. Just look at the Nets record. Besides, every other team that is angling for Howard is more than happy to take on the Nets awful mistake contracts to help them out.

Petro is a bad contract (even though he'll be an expiring) but exactly how is Farmar not a movable contract?

I'm sorry, we can't do that. Your agenda is too clear and too obvious.

Everyone wants Farmar and Petro, they are important contributors to a successful NBA team. Just look at the Nets record. Besides, every other team that is angling for Howard is more than happy to take on the Nets awful mistake contracts to help them out.

Trades don't happen because a team wants every single player that they acquire. In the proposed deal, the main pieces are Lopez and Josh Smith. Extra players and contracts added would be relatively small and minor but considering the fact that Larry Drew has already come out and stated that they will probably looking for trades to replace to Horford, I can't imagine that the Hawks would turn away to big men who have a small cap hit.

Your conception of how the NBA works, especially management is too naive to be tolerated.
