klove is pissing me off...

Post#1 » by mchalupnik2 » Thu Jan 12, 2012 9:50 pm

If you read between the lines in anything kevin has said in interviews regarding resigning with the wolves, it's obvious that he doesn't want to be here. I'm making the prediction that he will not resign with the wolves.

The guy is an attention freak. He loves media attention, and hates the fact that he's in Minnesota.

Sorry Wolves fans, we're back to mediocrity, and looking for our star in 2 years...book it.

We have our star - Rubio.

It's not like Love can just leave unless he will only take the QO and even then we would obviously trade him rather than let him walk.

K.Love is trying to pull the max. he can. Maybe it's more the board's fault than his, who knows?!

Anyway, if Love believes he's a "superstar" that can lure other superstars or that he can win a championship being THE man; he is so wrong.

Once he signs the max.contract, he'll have to be THE man night in night out. And by THE man I mean that having bad nights won't be an excuse and taking big shots in crunch time will be an obligation, no matter how good is the opponent.

Anyway, just chill out. The guy's agent is probably the one pulling the strings to get as much money as soon as he can.

But I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Love is attracted by the idea of living in L.A./Hollywood and playing in the Staples with all the media attention and movie stars presence. Anyone one of us would be lured by that at some point.

I doubt he leaves. He seems to really like playing with Rubio...and knows how good Rubio is already. Then Derrick Williams seems like he will be a pretty good player as well.

I'd feel much better extending him @ max than having it hang over our heads. We can't look @ it like maybe he's only worth 13 mil or w/e annual, has to be looked @ from his agent's perspective and that is that there will be numerous teams lined up to take him @ the max if the Wolves provide that opening. There's no reason for Love to accept less than the max. He'll extend if the Wolves offer the max, I guarantee it. Just to seal the deal I'm willing to sponsor his basketball reference page again in the future.

It's not like the max will be that bad for him either...what is it like this?

$15,000,000
$16,125,000
$17,250,000
$18,375,000
$19,500,000

5 years - $86,250,000

Unless we can get by giving him $5/70(1 year, $6m more then any other team could offer)...

the max is great for him and I'm sure thats what he's saying in the interviews; the headline says he won't commit to max w/ Wolves, but when you read/listen to the quotes, sounds more like he's saying he won't commit to extending and when I read between the lines, I see that as him saying "don't negotiate w/ me, I can get the max."

The CBA says .. "What?"

http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2011-12-27/cba-reality-drafting-a-star-gets-you-seven-years

Ben Gordon says, .. "Right on! Fight the power!"

Every other star says, ... "Huh?"

Gordon is the only star I can think of in the last 7 years that I've followed this, that has ever said "no" to signing that first $40 mil contract vs risk getting injured for the two years it'd take to become a UFA.

I think your prediction won't last 7 days.

Love is going to look a lot better if/when we get a #1 scorer. Same problem we had w/ KG, he's a perfect role player star type. In Love's case, if we can get a creator, Love can get 2nd chance opportunities and limit those for the other team w/ his glass work, and his open jumpers will open up more. Right now he's our #1 and its not at all his strength, he has a B level post game, and on the perimeter he can hit threes, or else fake to get in for a jumper, but he's not strong enough around the rim to be a #1, though he can stack free throws with his relentless rebounding and strength. He could be a perfect compliment to a #1, but right now he's forcing shots b/c he doesn't have the arsenal to deal w/ #1 scorer defensive attention.

It's less than this. I think his starting max number is like 25% of $54.1 mil with 7.5% increases after that. I'm not positive about the 54.1, but it is somewhere around there and not $58 like the cap is. Someone posted it on the Love agent thread a few weeks ago.

If the new CBA calculates the max the same as the old CBA (based on a lower % of BRI), then it's about 5 years $78M. First year salary is ~ $13.5M.

shrink, i've been reading you for forever now, and you're the man...

please explain this to me...according to the derrick rose rule, i thought that klove could sign a max with us for more than he could with any other team. either way, the wolves could have already offered him the max by now, no? if they could have already offered him the max by now...they are crazy for not doing it by now. imo, they have, and klove doesn't want it here.

I think he'll be a Twolf for a very long time. The money is too good, we are on the way up, and he can sign with us first. 95% of guys who get offered the max take it.

I'm not all gung-ho about paying Love the max like everyone else.

Talk to me in year 5 of his deal when he's getting paid $19M and we still haven't made it out of the first round of the playoffs.

How much can you afford to pay Love? If you are a championship quality team, can Love get max?

I don't know. I see him as a 90% max guy based on his shot creation and man up defensive limitations. Still absolutely blown away by his improvement this last year physically, but he's not a prototype max player. But there are only so many great players in the league and a lot of teams will pay it, which means we essentially have to pay it.

The problem is that to become a championship caliber team, we'd need another player diametrically opposed in skill sets, efficient scorer and shot creator with decent wing defense (hopefully a 2 but a trade for an elite two way 3 would work) along with the other two positions getting very strong defensive players able to contribute 8-12 points per night....plus a bench that can score 30. So that's tough, because you need all these pieces to fit each other.

Frankly, I don't care though, I'd rather be fighting in the playoffs like the old Kings did and enjoy basketball. Pay the man.

^ You seriously think we are going to be a team that can't get out of the 1st round in 5 years? Rubio/Love are going to be very good. Both top 20-25 players IMO. We could surround them with role players and be a really great team.

I'm not as high on Love as other Wolves fans...but we can't lose him. I'd be open to trading him for a better wing since we do have D-will backing him up and I think he's going to be a pretty good player. But..I'm not going to trade him unless he absolutely just says "I won't sign here", which seems highly unlikely. He's our biggest "star" since KG, the things that make him great are the fact that he's a god at rebounding, and he draws fouls at an incredible rate.

Several other teams would be willing to offer him the max. They should just get it done.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
