what C should the hawks trade for?
I think the hawks cant go thru the season with a zaza/collins combo at C.
They have to atleast get another back up quality Center.
I actually think the hawks will still make the playoffs with Zaza at the starting center position if they can get a serviceable back up C.
Who would you target and for what?
P.S. I doubt Drew and Sund DONT make a move. This is larry drews ONE SHOT. he isnt going to want to have as good of a record as possible, because guys like him, never have their job on lock.
Plus, sund hasnt really been the greatest GM. He did fill out the bench for cheap this year, but that hinrich trade and inability to make any impact moves put him on the hotseat imo

Don't trade for anyone, just give Joel Pryzbilla the vet min.

The problem with your premise is it ignores the fact that we've needed a Center for awhile, now. And, without Horford, we actually have less to use for a trade.

I've heard unconfirmed reports that the Hawks want to shed some salary - how true is that and to what extent will they go? Does someone like Josh Smith become expendable for an expiring and cheap alternative?

No not really, Josh is the most valubal trading piece for the Hawks other than Horford and he's not going anywhere just to shed some salary. Hopefully Sund isn't that stupid.

The hawks have needed a quality starting C for a while.
now, the hawks have an urgent need to atleast a serviceable back up for depth. It would of made 0 sense in the past to trade for a back up C.

They have also said that Josh likely isn't looking to be traded on the cheap.
Josh has been playing insane recently. 23+ points in 4 of his last 5 games with an average of 24 ppg. Very good percentages and has been rebounding the ball decently. With Horford out he becomes one of the main offensive options (he was before but will take a larger role). There is no way the Hawks are looking to just dump him. They do have Hinrich coming off the books after this season so that helps some.

Really no reason for Milwaukee to do it. They have to take on Marvin and Zaza's contracts and only get back a first.

Re: what C should the hawks trade for?
how bout go the route of stock piling picks for this awesome draft?...
Smoove for Kaman, Minn 1st & NOH 1st?
And since we probably won't resign Hinrich, trade him to someone like the Lakers for picks?

In other words, tank. Well, you'd have to trade Kaman for picks, as well, or you'd defeat your purpose. That's a whole lotta trading partners to manage.
Problem: what if MIN and NOH don't stink? Rubio is a huge improvement for the Wolves, while Love is playing out of his head. In New Orleans, the Hornets would have Gordon/Smith/Okafor/Jack/??? -- not a bad team and possibly a playoff team. What if you traded Smith for picks that did not end up in the lottery? That's a real gamble.

I would look into trading Marvin and Zaza for Okafor or Kirk and Zaza for Dalembert and Dragic.

Absolutely. Every good player we have is available for your team (and only your team) for whatever loose change you have in your pockets.
Seriously, have you EVER gone to a board and heard the fans say, "Take one of our best players for expiring and cheap junk."? Only the overpriced and worthless of the NBA are available for that kind of offer. This sort of rumor has been shot down so many times we need a stickied response.

Good point Parsons.
First - it would be wise to wait closer to the trade deadline to have a better idea of those picks, and to also ensure the Hornets don't start winning too soon.
I also like the idea of flipping Kaman for more picks. But if Horford were to be back for the playoffs, I wouldn't mind letting him expire and compete in the playoffs. Teague, JJ, and Horf are a new big 3 and can do things with a supporting cast.

Correct. No reason for Milwaukee to do that deal. Bogut's contract is not a problem, and Atlanta's 1st is not terribly attractive if they have Bogut (makes Atlanta a playoff team).
Now if you have Horford coming to Milwaukee ...

Re: what C should the hawks trade for?
Bogut is not that good. He is very limited but he would help us because of defense and rebounding. Bogut's value is that of Tyson Chandler. Go look at the people Chandler has been traded for. The best player he was ever traded for was Okafor. Okafor has never been a all-star Al has. We should never trade Al for Bogut.
Bogut's true value is Zaza, Marvin and the 2012-13 1ST plus the 2014-15 1ST and that is a little steep.

I'd need Jon Leuer + Bogut and I'd want a 2nd rounder if I'm giving up Hinrich for a needless player. We can't give up our 1st this year btw.

Re: what C should the hawks trade for?
Bogut would also be able to play pick and ROLL.

and again I'll reiterate. the biggest problem has been having a perimeter player who can shoot the trail shot, the corner 3, defend the 4position and rebound.
LEUER!

Re: what C should the hawks trade for?
My favorite trades in order. You can't trade someone on IR people, meaning you can't trade Al and he will not be back by the deadline.
A.Brook Lopez for Josh. Brook comes back before deadline and do the trade straight up. Sign Lopez to Smith's salary this offseason and the cap is not hurt.
B.Josh Smith for Noah. Noah's minutes are down and they have Asik. I don't know what they think of Noah and his long term contract right now. Maybe we would need to throw Zaza in there and take back Brewer or someone like that.
C.Marvin, Zaza, and 2 1st rd picks for Bogut
D.Kirk, Zaza, and a 2nd rd pick for Kaman
E.Zaza, Marvin, for Okafor
F. Zaza, Kirk for Dalembert and Doran Gragic
G. Zaza, Marvin, and 2 2nd rd picks for Gortat and Childress

Re: what C should the hawks trade for?
would you guys be interested in a Horford/ Varejao-protected 2013 pick trade? It makes us worse for the next lottery with Horford's injury, gives you a scrappy, defending, hustle center that has been playing his best season so far, and also gives u the potential to add another really nice young role player in 2013 or beyond if it's something like top 5 protected
edit: just read the above post, if true about not being able to trade an injured player than disregard that idea lol
