Memphis and New Jersey have been engaged in trade talks centered on guard O.J. Mayo, but a deal appears unlikely, league sources tell Y!

What? I can't even fathom a trade that would benefit the Nets at this point.

Nets-Grizzlies talks included scenarios for Anthony Morrow and a pick for O.J. Mayo, but discussions have lost traction, sources tell Y!

I guess Morrow must've lost favor with assistant general manager, D-Will.

Billy better not cave to some feeble attempt to rescue the season. It's lost, nothing but a future mortgaging steal is going to get this team an 8th seed.

Only way I do it is if it's for Morrow and Petro (and whatever 2nd round picks it takes to get it done). Even then I'm ambivalent because of the emergence of Brooks.

Out of interest what exactly is the deal with qualifying offers? Is it the starting bid for restricted free agents? Do you have to match other offers, or only other offers that the FA is about to accept?

Why can't we just go for Stephen Jackson...

Morrow and a pick for the luxury of not being able to sign Mayo in the offseason? Count me in!

And because Stephen Jackson sucks, and completely demolishes any chance the Nets have to keeping Lopez and signing Howard in the offseason.

He has 2 years left to his contract and I think we can trade Petro, Farmar, and D-James for that guy

If Dwight isn't dealt by the deadline, I'd totally be down to trade Lopez for a forward, like a Josh Smith, or a Rudy Gay even, although that might be a pipe dream.

We could sign Howard in the off-season, and have a solid big 3 with Williams/Howard/Smith.

But as for this trade, as much as Mayo could help us, I'd rather have Morrow at this point. Mayo is a head case, and isn't all that great anyway, and Morrow is finding his rhythm anyway and lighting it up recently. Our problem is our front court, we should try to do a trade that strengthens that.

OJ Mayo? He is a RFA after this season, unless you meant Stephen Jackson, in which case...

There is absolutely NO way to keep Lopez, keep Williams, keep Brooks, keep Morrow, keep this year's high pick, trade for Jackson, AND sign Howard. No way.

With Mayo's contract situation, I think I'd rather keep Morrow. Especially with a pick going the other way, not an appealing trade at all.

Wait, we have to give them a pick in the deal?

Better be a 2nd rounder.

If we're giving up picks, maybe the deal is bigger than just Morrow for Mayo.

Petro for Darrell Arthur swap in there as well?

Is Billy not taking into account that Mayo alone will add nearly 8 million to the payroll during the offseason because of his caphold? Am I missing something? It would take the trading of Petro and Farmar just to get back to where the team would be without trading Morrow, Petro or Farmar.

Yeah but you don't have to renounce a player until you need that cap, so it's not like you immediately have to renounce him, gives you options.

So in essence he's an expiring contract but if we wanted/needed/could depending on moves, we could bring him back as a fallback or to add to the core.

That's not the point, though, Vince. With three days, if I'm a team, I'm signing OJ Mayo to an offer sheet and just **** with the Nets this offseason. Either the Nets match, in which case you screw up the team's chances of getting Howard, or they don't match, in which case they traded a good role player on a decent deal and a pick for jack. This is a lose, lose.

The only thing I can think of, which wouldn't be so bad would be this:

T-Wolves trade: Wes Johnson
T-Wolves receive: OJ Mayo

Nets trade: Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro, the 2012 Miami Heat 2nd rounder, and cash considerations.
Nets receive: Wes Johnson

Grizzlies trade: OJ Mayo
Grizzlies recieve: Anthony Morrow, Johan Petro, the 2012 Miami Heat 2nd rounder, and cash.

Unfortunately, that trade screams the loss of the Houston pick to me.
