Seriously, how do you stop the Saint's offense?

Post#1 » by Little Italia » Sun Jan 8, 2012 5:07 am

It's almost getting sickening seeing how WIDE OPEN they are on every freakin' play. It's gotten to the point where i think the only way you can beat the Saint's offense is by praying they drop a key pass or have a few holding penalties.

Even if you blitz brees, he's just too good and will exploit it.

Don't let Brees sit in the pocket for 15 seconds every snap.

Play like the Lions did in the first half, which was getting pressure on Brees and creating turnovers.

Or just be the Packers, and out score them completely.

This. They lost one game where they played good all season, and that was to the Packers. They also lost some games because Brees just decided to play poorly.

So either cross your fingers and hope that the hottest quarterback in the NFL plays a bad game, or have Aaron Rodgers on your team.

Teams try to slow the pace of the game down against New Orleans and most of the time it doesn't work. For instance, the Falcons try to slow it down, they run, run, run, and end up only getting a field goal (or nothing). Once the Saints get the ball they score so easy and have so many weapons that it makes it difficult to contain (Ha), I mean keep up with them.

One technique to try is what the Niners are about to do. You bring a power running game to eat up the clock. The less time that Brees has on the field, the better. Gore has to keep moving the chains. Niners have to keep getting first downs. The longer that Brees is on the sideline, the harder it will be for him to get into a rhythm.

Of course, that's just one of the dozen things that you need to do in order to beat the Saints.

Pressure up the middle.

Since Brees is short, bringing pressure up the middle is a good idea. However, the Saints have developed a new weapon this year - a versatile backfield.

Payton has evolved his system to where there are multiple looks that the backfield throws out. You might think a play is going a certain way based on which running backs are out there, but the Saints have managed to fool people on a consistent basis with multiple looks.

It's almost unfair that they have this weapon when you consider how dangerous their down field receivers are.

Pressure up the middle is really the only thing that phases Brees... which is why there has been a concerted effort to hang onto the two all pro guards.

The 49ers absolutely have to collapse the pocket, or their secondary will be shredded.

I honestly don't think ball control works that well on us, getting up on us quick is really better.

play a 46 defense. Play 5 DL, 1 LB, 4 DB, 1 NB. Try to limit the short yards. Rush 3, 4 or 5 guys. Blitz 6. Send different schemes Brees way. Force him to one side of the field. Everything DC's tried. Very hard to stop. But all you can really do is mix it up and hope your defense makes a play.

Also take advantage of mistakes. Brees will give you a couple during a game, you cant be dropping easy ints like the lions

The 49'ers just answered the opening post.

Turnovers
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability
