I would imagine Bernie is going to stay in relative shape then 2-3 weeks before the roster expands he is going to wind up with a minor league deal in Tampa. Then the roster expands he comes up. 5th outfielder, DH and pinch hitter. Basically in the Ruben Sierra role. This is all considering that we are within striking distance of the playoffs around that time. -Jitpal

Give me a break. The book finally needs to be closed!!!!! He can field, he can't hit righties!!
Bernie, just give it up. I know you guys are all nostalgic about him, but he isn't the same Bernie he was 7-8 years ago.

And Bernie's last yr was .768. a DH/1B trio of Bernie, Giambi, Mientkiewicz is better than a DH/1B trio of Giambi, Mientkiewicz and Phelps
By chance, do you know what Bernie's OPS was in 2005? There is a reason why we don't want Bernie back, he's been declining ever year and he's a glorified DH.
Why do we need another DH on this team? Giambi has that position secured. Bernie can't play in the field and Joe will have him out there everyday of the week if he could.

It was .688. But come on lets be real, stats are overrated and if a guy can swing the bat he can swing the bat. Do we need another DH? mehh prolly not. But do we need 3 1B???

Umm, you just tried to use stats to prove your point. Don't try to pull that bull with me.
and if a guy can swing the bat he can swing the bat.
Bernie was only average in 2006 and was well below average in 2005. No thanks.

No, we don't. When Giambi needs the day off, Matsui will be the DH and Melky the LF. When one of our old outfielder needs a day off in the field, they will DH and Melky will be in the outfield. Bernie just clogs things up, and you just know Joe will play him everday if he could.
But do we need 3 1B???
We don't have 3 first basemen, we have 2. You can't consider Giambi a 1B anymore.
Do we really need 2 DHs (Giambi and Bernie) when we have 3 older starting outfielders who all need DH time occasionally?

he can't hit the fastball like he use to, didn't you see the Detroit seriously his bat slowed down so badly, we're not just lettiing Bernie come back either, he has to go down to AAA and show he still can swing. That's been the problem everyone is so afraid of change and not wanting to hold on, you can't want everything from the past otherwise how is this team moving forward, how do they improve when he leaves ?
I love Bernie but he's not what he was.

This organization finally needs to turn the page on the late 1990's dynasty. It's not coming back, the players who were great back then are not longer great now. This organization needs to turn the page and it starts with young pitching and turning away old DHs that have nostalgic value.

Exactly I'm tired of arguing this sh** back and fourth if Bernie comes back he comes back as a PH not a RF, not LF, hell no not CF
most important stat
2007 As PH 16 AB 2 H 5 K's, .125 AVG, .300 OBP, .125 SLG, .425 OPS
as a DH .265 AVG, .336 OBP, .642 OPS
he's 39 years old how much improvement do you guys expect.
How about why Edwar Gonzalez who was clutch in AA got sent down to A to adjust he's 24 why doesn't he get the call ?, how about our prospects that can actually hit, that kid has a canon for an arm was and still is one of the best clutch hitters down there when does he get a shot when he's 35 ?
