Trade advice

Post#1 » by Jadoogar » Sat Jan 7, 2012 9:20 pm

I was offered

Garnett, Irving, Westbrook for Gordon, Lowry, Varejao

I'm a little scared of giving up Lowry considering how good he has been playing but I'm tempted to accept due to Gordon's injury.

If you break it down...

Garnett vs. Varejao:
Garnett is a much better free throw shooter and will add in slightly more assists but other than that... What else does he do significantly better than Varejao? They both steal and block shots at around the same rate and at this point in their careers Varejao is the better rebounder.

You also have to monitor Garnett's health and in the back of your mind remember that the Celtics are going to take every opportunity they can to limit his minutes this season.

If you can sacrifice the rebounds and want to improve your efficiency you could live with this swap, but just keep in mind that you're not making out like a bandit in it.

Westbrook vs. Gordon:
I'm a huge Eric Gordon fan but this is a no-brainer for me. Even with how he's started the season from the field and in the turnovers department I want Westbrook 10 out of 10 times over Gordon solely because of Gordon's inability to stay healthy.

Westbrook has started slow but there's really no reason to expect that his APG won't gradually nudge back up to the 8.0 range that he's posted in the last two years. Westbrook is also a more consistent source of steals and will have a larger impact on your FT% due to the number of free throw attempts he has each game.

By moving Gordon you'd lose out greatly in threes and possibly a bit in points, but those are probably the two easiest categories to replace in a week if you're up-to-date with the players on the waiver wire.

Irving vs. Lowry:
Irving or Lowry? Is this a serious question? This is Lowry.

As a fantasy basketball player Irving is nothing special, if you name a category Lowry trumps Kyrie in it.

Summary:

I wouldn't do the trade you listed in your opening post. I would look into an Eric Gordon for Russell Westbrook trade. Do NOT undervalue Lowry. I have some concerns about his impending legal charges but these kind of things usually end up getting dismissed so I would proceed as normal with him.

selling low on someone because they're injured and you're impatient is extremely short-sighted

What do you guys think of (me) Blake Griffen/Gallinari for KD (him)

He wants me to add Deng and he'll add someone as well but I don't know who his other person is. Any input so far?
