Get into the Mayo derby!

Post#1 » by Bassman » Mon Jan 16, 2012 2:34 pm

With NJ and Memphis talking Mayo trade, I've got to believe we can do better and finally grab this guy.

They need a PF...we've got plenty. I'd much more welcome pairing Mayo with Kemba as our backcourt of the future. Smallish yes but not like the the current HOBBIT formation of DJ and Walker. Pairing Mayo and Kemba would be dynamic. You can play Hendo off the bench and give him major minutes depending on the matchups/game trend, and even use Mayo at the point on occasion.

Deal Tyrus for Mayo http://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/5988288, start Bismack with LOTS of minutes for Diaw & DJW off the bench, and get this rebuild started!

Future rotation this season:
PG - Kemba, DJ
SG - Mayo, Hendo
SF - Williams, Mags, UPS
PF - Biz, DJW
C - Mullens, Diaw, Diop
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I'm sure Memphis can't wait to take on Tyrus Thomas' contract! :D

I take Henderson over Mayo on any day of the week.

Honestly, I think its too late for us to make a run at him. We'd have to pay him like we just did with Tyrus and that kind of undermines the rebuild in a way.

Except the days where you need a consistent scorer, ball handler, shot creator, and outside shooting of course.

Can't imagine anyone on this board rejecting the idea of trading T2 for Mayo straight up - which means it's obviously too heavily in our favor!

No way in HELL do the the Griz ever accept a trade like that! It's totally lopsided in our favor. What do the griz gain from that? Maybe they would be interested in Diaw since he is expiring.....but even then I have my doubts.

Anyway. If OJ came here he would be coming off the bench, which would be fine. Hendo is the better starting option but OJ could still get plenty of minutes between the PG and SG positions. Would love to have him here but I'm not sure we have the pieces. Perhaps if it was a three team deal and we sent dj/diaw out, but that's doubtful.

Guys dont expect too much of Reggie. He's a solid bench player who occasionally gets really hot. Of course i dont like this trade, we dont need 2 SG's behind Matt Carroll.

I still hold out hope for Tyrus, but regardless Mayo shouldn't be anybody's starting shooting guard. He doesn't have any upside, and he isn't good enough right now for that not to matter.
Humble yourself.

Meh, but I probably would do Tyrus for Mayo if he didn't hurt us in the wallet too much.

Amen Slam, great trade for us if Memphis would do it.

They traded for Speights and signed Cunningham, I don't think Memphis are so desperate for a Pf that they would take on TT

Plus - they have already lived through Tyrus Thomas version 1.0

True, but I think they actually liked Stro Swift there?

I love OJ and would like to bring him here during the off-season if he can be had for a bargain, but don't see any possibilities that both teams would agree too that would land us OJ before then.

Mayo is nice, but with as great as Hendo is performing I don't see him as an upgrade, and Hendo's long term back up should be a three point specialist with defensive ability. ( Doron Lamb / Will Buford/ Terrence Ross? )

If Mayo could be had for a reasonable price and be happy being a 6th man swing guard then I wouldn't mind having him. That is a lot of ifs though.

I doubt his ego could take being a 6th man on a cellar dwelling team when he has been getting nice p. t. on a contender.
