Mayo is a jump shooter. He's definitely not the SG I would envision but at a moderate price you won't be able to pick up anyone better.

Then again Mayo is at least able to create his own shot unlike Wes Johnson.

Irrational optimism.

We need a long-term complimentary player to team with Love and Rubio. What does trading for Ray Allen accomplish?

Mayo can get off his shot, but he can't finish inside and doesn't get to the free throw line, which makes him not too effective out of the pick n' roll. Still, I'd like him in the roll we currently use Ellington and to a lesser extent Wayne -- shooting off curls and spotting up, both of which tend to be Mayo's bread and butter. He's also quite fearless and doesn't mind taking important shots at the end of games -- and we don't have many guys like that.

If it worked out (OJ for example) for the money, it would certainly incease our odds of acquiring a high caliber player. In a mythical scenario involving Howard, he's gotta see a capable SG ... so the question is: Is OJ Mayo a legit SG option in Adelman's system with or without Howard? IDK.

The Wolves have never at any point in their history had a decent 2 guard. The last time I saw a player in his prime play for the Wolves who wasn't obnoxiously one dimensional was JR Rider... we are Wolves fans, that makes us inherantly irrational.

OJ Mayo would likely be a one year rental too, what does that accomplish?

Ray Allen would be a good pick up if we were able to get on some run ... he'd add a ton in a playoff series. Else, I'm still for a longer term solution.

shrink wrote:We talked with a MEM fan, who said that the team has holes it needs to fill. They also have the problem of being just over the lux, and having a team with unproductive salary on board putting them there.

shrink wrote:I ran the numbers, and MEM is over the lux by $410,701.

$70,717,701 salary per storyteller
$70,307,000 lux threshold
$410,701 OVER

That costs them an extra $3.4 mil, so I expect they will probably let unguaranteed Josh Davis go after a few weeks, to slide under the lux. He's certainly not worth an extra $3.4 mil to the Grizz.

Anyway, a good MEM trade is going to fill the team's holes, move unproductive salary, and slide them under the lux.

Mayo (5,632,637) + Darrell Arthur (2,027,119) + Josh Davis (885,120) = $8,544,876

If that's your package, what you get in return needs to be under $8,134,175 ($8.5 - $0.4)

Darko (4,776,500) + Ellington (1,154,040) + Tolliver (2,050,000) = $7,980,540. That'd be my offer.

MIN GETS: Mayo + Arthur (inj) + Davis (ung)
MEM GETS: Darko + Ellington + Tolliver + $564,336 cap space to get MEM under the lux

PG 1. Conley 2. Selby 3. Pargo
SG 1. Tony Allen 2. Ellington
SF 1. Rudy Gay 2. Sam Young 3. Pondexter
PF 1. Speights 2. Tolliver 3. Dante Cunningham 3. 4. Zach Randolph (inj)
C 1. Marc Gasol 2. Darko

If Darko was gone, MIN would need to look for some help at center (Okafor?), but you can't argue with the price. They've maintained their assets (Beasley, MEM 1st) to make that trade by plugging the holes on the Griz.

Not sure if you still want to play around with this Shrink, but ESPN's trade machine has MEM ~ $890K over the lux, about $40K more than Davis.

As a Grizz Fan I like this deal, we need to improve our outside shooting and Morrow and Tolliver help with it, and Tolliver can be someone used in the interior rotation.

Sam Young in exchange of our 1st returned (or Ellington) could be added too.
