Dwight Howard

Post#1 » by invno1 » Mon Jan 16, 2012 5:46 pm

Not so sure if it is tampering or how much if anything can be expressed to Howard, but if Timberwolves were to sign him with cap created by the expiring s this off-season, Timberwolves wouldnt have to give up anything and as far as I could see would have if not the best..a top 2 or 3 team for years to come...Timberwolves make more sense for a destination than any other team I look at. That team would have the whole league on there feet.

Assuming we could muster enough space under the cap to offer a max contract, Howard would have to pass up on $25M to do that. In other words, not happening.

$16,324,500 x 5 years w/ 1.075 raises = 94, 819, 079
16,324,500 + 17,548,837.5 + 18,865,000.3 + 20,279,875.3 + 21,800,865.9

$16,324,500 x 4 years w/ 1.045 raises = 69,839,331
16,324,500 + 17,059,102.5 + 17,826,762.1 + 18,628,966.4

Miami has LBJ, Bosch, Wade all on big deals...Although Howard is a really big deal Timberwolves are best place for very exciting play

I'd make a run at him now and hope we could convince him to stay.

Sota gives: Beasley, Johnson, Miller, Webster, Pekovic, and Memphis/Utah picks.
Orlando gives: Howard and Turkoglu

Wolves take a chance on Howard not re-signing, but it gives up mostly cap space, middle 1sts, and Beasley. MAJOR salary commitment, but it helps ensure that Love re-signs. Howard has talked about wanting to be THE MAN, and in Minnesota he's not competing with LeBron, Wade, Paul, or Kobe.

Magic don't get the superstar package back, but this helps them clear a ton of cap space by shedding Turkyglue, brings in Beasley/Johnson as prospects, and a couple middle 1sts. This also pushes Howard into the Western Conference and avoids the Magic/Laker comments.

C - Howard/Milicic/Randolph
PF - Love/Tolliver
SF - Turkoglu/Williams
SG - Ellington/Lee
PG - Rubio/Ridnour/Barea

Wolves are weak at SG, but as long as Ellington can space the floor and Lee can play good perimeter defense, we should be fine with Love/Turkey/Tolliver/Williams all able to shoot an outside shot. Ridnour and Barea would get minutes alongside Rubio as well, obviously.

If he'd stay, MIN would be pretty damn good. A Love, Howard combo, with Rubio directing traffic? Unbelievable. Unfortunately, most teams can say the same thing about acquiring Dwight, so he has his choices of who he wants to make pretty damn good.

If we could acquire him without giving up Derrick Williams, I'd roll the dice too, just like J2J.

What I think might happen though is that we might be the third team in the deal. Suppose Dwight is open to three teams, and ORL tells them, "We want the best rebuilding package." Most of these teams don't have the pieces, but the best AVAILABLE rebuilding piece in the market is the one we own .. Derrick Williams. He provides multiple years, has lots of name recognition right now, and he's easier to sell to ORL fans than some future pick.

In MIN, we might see some gorgeous overbids, since acquiring Dwight Howard makes a team an instant money-maker and contender. Unfortunately, since Dwight's agent has only been given permission to talk to NJN, DAL and LAL, I don't see a good opportunity for us.

I'd say that's considerably worse than a NJ offer w/ Lopez, Brooks, and two picks.

Yeah, but I didn't ask you, Kraphead. It's my pipedream, and you weren't invited. ;-)

Is New Jersey taking back Turkeyglue and is their deal based on Howard signing an extension? Plus, Pekovic.

That's why it called getting Krapped on. Deal with it.

And yeah, turkey glue was in that deal.

Howard coming here is one thing ... no Williams in the package is naive, but nonetheless, I just don't see a guy like Howard seriously considering MN versus NY or LA.

Imagine all the Kahn-haters that would have to bow ... ???

Yeah, I'm greedy, I don't want to lose Williams. Maybe swap Beasley for Williams and see how it goes. Beasley's closer to being a SF and that's what we'd need with Love eating minutes, and Tolliver/Randolph.

But you still ignore Pekovic. He's untapped talent. Easily a top 50 center in this league...

PS: I hate when people use the phrase, "in this league." WTF league did you think we were talking about? Polish Rec Center Under 15 league?

Wes might actually be starter material in that league. Let's get on the phone- I hear there's a kid from Wroclow with a great shake and bake move we might be able to trade for.

And if Orlando wanted Love instead of Beasley, I'd give Love to them. Even without commitment. Just after 20 games getting the ball off Rubio he would even like Minny's weather :D

He wants to go to a big market, forget it. Even Otis Smith said that this week. And going to FA means getting less money anyway.

He'll go to either L.A. or NYC.

EDIT: But he could stay in Orlando as well. Less probable, but possible.

He had Dallas on the list as well.
I could see him being happy in Philly too.

Twin Cities isn't a small market. It's not LA or New York but its not Oklahoma City.

As an NBA market, yes it's relatively small compared to L.A. or NYC.

Anyway, we'll find out soon. Howard has always said he loves the heat and the beach. His gf is from L.A. But no one would say no to NYC.

Time will tell. I'd love to see him in a Wolves jersey. But I am realistic.

We're a medium market, but he didn't list Arizona or Seattle ... oops I mean Detroit either.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
