No you weren't. You were saying start him.
Nobody disagrees that he should have been in the game when the Magic went zone.
start novak, start balkman, start jeffries, at the 2....all them are better then landry at this point.
Shooting guard - novak can shoot
Jeffries could probable guard 2's along with balkman better than fields...right now we are starting a 2 guard that can't guard 2's and can't shooot! you don't see that as a problem for the 2 posiiton?
All of those players are worse than Landry at the 2.
The only one a case can be made for is Balkman

I mean honestly, on the one hand you want to support D'Antoni and yet on the other hand you don't want the one guy on this team that can actually hit a 3 (you know, D'Antoni's favvy) to get serious minutes.
I'm not a D'Antoni supporter. I'm just not a torch grabber like so many other on this board. I blame him for what he's responsible for, and blame the players for what they are responsible for.
Novak shouldn't get serious minutes. He's a liability every second of the game he's not shooting. He's like Jonathan Bender, but worse.
Fields is a better defender in terms of physical abilty, as well as awareness. A better rebounder, ballhandler, passer, and cutter. He's also a better finisher.
Have you ever seen Novak play?
awareness really? I would ask you to re-watch the game and strickly focus on fields for 30 minutes and see his awareness. See what he does running back on fast breaks....he runs straight into the paint! he doesn't pick up his man and can't get around screens...how is that good awareness? Countless times he just could not pick up his man in transition.

Well unless you want to consider Walkers 2 previous seasons as proof, the only guy that can be relied upon to consistently hit open jumpers is Novak. Which again, goes more to highlight that this mix of players does not fit the coach, more so than Novak being any real great player.
toney douglas, fields and amare all had good jumpers last year. this year they don't. defenses adjust if all you can do is take into the paint. it makes scoring a lot harder.

steve novak couldn't have played worse on defense guarding the 3 point shooters than the rest were.. when orlando went zone, you bring him in.. Period... it is a trade off... knicks couldn't hit a shot, bring him in. otherwise if you feel you can't put novak on the floor, then he should not be on your roster at all..especially when you refuse to use the one skill that keeps him in the league..

For our offense to work, our players need to be able to play to their strengths. For the Knicks they may be better off playing Balkman over Fields (Balkman isn't a SG but neither is Fields). Hope that Balkman provides the same kind of spark and energy that Shumpert has and fire up the flow of the game some. The Knicks are really best right now when they are attacking and playing aggressive. That's when the choatic (but affective) defense works. That's also when the offense seems to have more life and motion. Fields obviously isn't working and Novak is clearly not one that can guard SG's.

Re: 1/16 Orlando Postgame thread
Start Fields, and we get killed on offense and defense.
Fields should be an end of the bench player. Landry is completely useless.
I'd easily start Balkman at the 2 over him, or start Novak at the 3 and Melo at the 2.

Balkman at the 2 should be looked at. Out of any of the Knicks SF's Balkman is the most defensively able to guard guards. Unless the Knicks can actually find a real SG, Balkman makes the most sense to guard guards. That way at least you prevent the other team from getting early leads, hopefully allow the Knicks to maintain momentum a little longer and let your 2 guys focus on scoring.

they are content with a 6-7 record...this is our roster for the rest of the season pretty much with the addition of davis and that should help....but fields can no longer play the 2! do i seriously need to show u the performances opposing twos have put up against fields this yr?

Not arguing playing Novak when the Zone came out... Novak is a situational player and when the other team plays zone thats the situation you put him in the game... but you can't start him at the 2...

the only thing i think you could do is start shump and bibby or shump and toney. you can't make an already weak offense weaker.

You constantly say that Fields shouldn't start...and everyone here agrees. But, you have yet to give us a suggestion that actually makes sense.

8-12 from Reddick is what killed us. Since the Knicks don't have many 2 way guys they need to let their big money guys worry about offense and bring in more guys on defense that can stop guys like Reddick from going crazy.

Yes! Bringing him, or Jorts, in as a zone buster is fine...but we have no other option to start at shooting guard besides Fields.
