Biggest Draft busts since 2006

Well read the title who do you think is the biggest draft bust in recent memory?

Thabeet is bad, real bad and the 2nd pick but Alexander is no longer even in the league and was an 8th pick. Tough choice.

Some fine choices to be sure. I went locally because I told my ticket agent back in 2006 that if the rumor was true and we were stupid enough to draft Sheldon Williams I wasn't renewing my season tickets that year. Not only a bad pick, but committed so early that other teams could plan around our stupidity. He couldn't catch the ball cleanly in college. Anyone should have been able to see that as he played for the most televised college team in the country. It was more clear than Oden's injury potential. Got to give the Hawks the edge for making such a predictable bust pick with the #5 pick that year.

Shelden Williams. It was obvious he was only going to be a borderline role player at the NBA level, but our scouting group, and other people affiliated with the organization thought differently. Dominique Wilkins included.

After the first two picks the only players to make a name for themselves was:

Kyle Lowry
J.J. Redick

The rest of the first round picks ended up being bust or role players.

Joe Alexander without a doubt. He is not even in the league

For me it's Thabeet, I had a tough time deciding between Hasheem, Alexander, and Oden but I chose Thabeet because he's not with his team (the Grizz) anymore, Alexander was number 8 while Thabeet was 2 neither are with their teams anymore; the reason I didn't choose Oden is because he still has potential with the Blazers and when he wasn't hurt he's been a beast.

Thabeet and Joe made names for athletic things but at least at 7'3 he was/is built for a position. He has mental foul problems and rarely stole playing time away from Gasol, Randolph.

Alexander I am not as intimate with his story but guy did not even have a set position. Drafted as an SF/PF because of a carnival act with a good story and Dunks/vertical. At last glance he gained 40 lbs and became a 6'8 C/PF. No translation to NBA.

Gotta go with Thabeet also. His skill level, motor and desire were far more questionable than any of Shelden's limitations and two teams have already decided that he can't help them, the team that drafted him 2nd overall and Houston which has pursued Gasol, rather play Jordan Hill at C and finally went out to get Dalembert rather than play him. Alexander may be out the league but I doubt Thabeet get's his 4th year option picked up either and the only reason he will get another shot is because he's a big.

Joe Alexander lol. Dude's out the league completely. Thabeet's getting a 2nd and 3rd contract and maybe 4th contract just for being 7'3 and people thinking experience=improvement will give him $$$ for a rental/flyers. Someone'll give him minutes and hope he improves.

For immediate impact players with minimal acceptable skills and/or dunkers, Joe Alexander could not beat out Sean Williams out of Boston College, Brandan Wright or Yi Jianlian. All play for DAL, Joe Alexander was available lol.

Thabeet getting another contract lol That's just too funny. He's still 7'3 with minimal talent. NBA has a 10 foot hoop. You know how that goes.

My pick was S. Williams. I don't watch much college basketball, but I happened to watch J. Alexander and I thought he was going to be a good player in the NBA though. A. Law didn't play PG the very few times I watched him, so I kinda knew that was not going to work out... I've said this b4... drafting is too overrated, specially with the way players move around the league these days... more important than drafting the right players is to get/sign the right ones... like signing a guy in his 30s for 6 yrs/120 M...that's worst and can set you franchise back way more than passing on a great player.

Just curious why Daniel Orton is on this list?
If you got drafted with Pick 29 then your not really highly touted player and therefore expectations on whether you make it or bust would be pretty low

Ik it's low but the fact that Orton played so little so far in his career put him on the list. Ik he's not an official bust "yet" But he will be, all that said he was still in the first round.

what about adam morrison ? i remember he was selected high and never did much . i picked sheldon from your list because hes the one im most familar with and hated that the hawks wasted such a high pick to get him

Orton shouldn't be included because most late firsts and 2nd rounders are crapshoots anyway. Morrison is a good choice at the 3rd pick in 06 but I give him a break for the same reason I give Oden a break in that they weren't in control of their injury situations.
