I don't recall exactly when the infraction occurred during the round, but that's immaterial, because you're legislating intent. Aldo blatantly intended to prevent Mendes from gaining an advantage in the fight/round. He should have been punished for that to where there's an assurance it would hurt him. That was the worst cage grab I've ever seen.

Yea, I think we need to stop with the "he wouldn't have kept him down anyway" stuff. It doesn't and shouldn't matter. Its rule breaking, regardless of circumstance.

I LOLed when I compared Gonzaga's purse to Mendes.

Jose Aldo: $48,000 ($24,000 to show, $24,000 win bonus)
Chad Mendes: $9,500

Vitor Belfort: $279,000 ($275,000 to show, $4,000 from Anthony Johnson's purse)
Anthony Johnson: $16,000 (20% of this purse - $4,000 - went to Belfort for missing weight)

Rousimar Palhares: $79,000 ($7,000 to show, $7,000 win bonus, $65,000 Submission of the Night bonus)
Mike Massenzio: $8,000

Erick Silva: $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 win bonus paid by UFC despite losing)
Carlo Prater: $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 win bonus)

Edson Barboza: $142,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 win bonus, $65,000 Fight of the Night bonus, $65,000 Knockout of the Night bonus)
Terry Etim: $75,000 ($10,000 to show, $65,000 Fight of the Night bonus)

Thiago Tavares: $30,000 ($15,000 to show, $15,000 win bonus)
Sam Stout: $19,000

Felipe Arantes: $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 win bonus)
Antonio Carvalho: $6,000

Gabriel Gonzaga: $134,000 ($67,000 to show, $67,000 win bonus)
Ednaldo Oliveira: $6,000

Yuri Alcantara: $12,000 ($6,000 to show, $6,000 win bonus)
Michihiro Omigawa: $16,000

Mike Pyle: $38,000 ($19,000 to show, $19,000 win bonus)
Ricardo Funch: $6,000

Yeah, that's why I'd like to see them try it out in a smaller org, just to see what it would look like. They've tried out other rule changes, judging systems, etc in smaller orgs in California if I'm not mistaken.

Oooh, that payroll kind of flies in the face of a lot of the "UFC is fairly compensating most guys" argument.

Mendes made less than $10,000 for a main event championship fight?

Palhares is only making 7 and 7 with no bonus?

Aldo only making $48,000 in a win?

I know a lot of guys on the card, especially those guys, will make a decent amount through bonuses and sponsorships, but as a guy that usually defends the UFC's pay structure, this one is pretty bad.

Looking at that payroll, I think having a separate monetary bonus for championship fights would make sense. To think that Mendes wouldn't even have made $20,000 for beating Aldo and winning the championship is crazy. Aldo not cracking $50,000 in his win is equally as whack for what he's worth.

I just don't understand how Gonzaga gets cut, gets a single win, then comes back and makes 134,000 on the freakin' prelims. They couldn't have restructured his contract?

A hw on the prelims gets 3 times as much as the main event champion FW who could be argued as a (the?) top p4p fighter in the world...

Don't get me wrong. I'm all about Gonzaga getting paid. But damn. People like to talk about drawing power equaling earnings in the ufc. Does anyone think Gonzaga drew enough fans to warrant making 14 times more money than the FW title challenger Mendes?

I just finally saw the entire card.

That was the most impressive KO kick I have ever seen! Yike yike!

Glad Vitor won after that whole ordeal, but did the ref need to do that many stand-ups?

Aldo into the crowd was insane and makes me think Sonnen could not ever fight there, they'd be too crazy on his walkout.

Seemed shady to me.

I know Rumble would've laid on him like he did Hardy, but there was, what seemed like, a clear agenda to make sure Belfort had a chance to end a tired Johnson.

Did Rumble actually get fired? I'd love to hear a UFC quote saying he's gone.

I caught this fight at a bar in Salvador, Brazil. Amazing experience, they love their MMA here. Aldo running into the crowd was unreal
