OT: Arison going through some rough times.

Post#1 » by Vertical Limit » Tue Jan 17, 2012 4:22 am

I know there are asses outside this board that will say they won't feel sorry for a guy who is still a billionaire, but us fans know and appreciate all the hard work and professionalism Arison has brought to our franchise.

Hope everything works out well but he's a smart businessman, I'm sure he will bounce back. But damn, the money he's lost the past 2 years is ridiculous.

It's too bad, all that money he lost.. he could have bought the Dolphins with it and we would finally have a respectable owner for them.

Good luck Mickey!

Plus his team lost in the NBA Finals lol.

Wasn't the cruise ship that crashed today or yesterday a Carnival cruise ship? Is that in any connection to Arison?

But from his perspective he is going through some tough times. Even though he has like 3 billion dollars left. I actually think for his kind of living, career and what he owns, that isn't much. Losing a billion dollars is a huge ass hit.

It wasn't an actual Carnival ship, it was a Costa ship, but its under the "Carnival Cruise Lines" umbrella. Either way, ever since signing the big 3, it seems like Micky has had some rough times. Hope it all works out and that family can continue operating the team. I truly think he loves the team and wants them to succeed, unlike some owners.

If you are talking about Carnival, then yeah, I think he owns the Cruise Line. I agree, also, while he may be a billionaire, putting things into perspective, $1 billion is a **** load of lost money, billionaire or not. Since he's worth like $4 billion, he pretty much lost 1/4 of his worth.

Looks like we are definitely not paying into the luxury tax anytime soon  but seriously, I wish him the best.

Not being an ass because I think Mickey is one of the better owners in sports but most of "lost money" is decrease in stock value. He's likely not planning on selling it anytime soon anyway. That's a far cry from someone who doesn't have a job and is struggling to survive. Bill Gates was worth over $100B at the end of the .com bubble then when it crashed he lost like $40B! Doubt either one lost much sleep over it.

No offense to you, kinda like a lot of your posts - BUT - if your paycheck was short just $100 - you'd wanna (want to) know what's going on, even if you can probably afford to lose $100, you'd still be a little concerned. Lost or losing money is Lost or Losing money, let's not minimize because it's Mr. Arison.

Not a shot at U, just wanted to express another opinion

WD, you missed his point. He was pointing out that however many billions Arison lost, it was in net worth - as in stock value - and not actual paper money. So unless Mr. Arison was planning on selling his stock right now, there is a fair chance the value of his stock gets back to the level it was before the drop in which case, he has not lost anything ... though the cruise ship sinking is a direct hit I guess.

On the flip side, if his stock value was all that is being calculated, he's not an "actual billionaire" too :)

I'm very happy with him as an owner and wish him nothing but the best. He actually appears to be a down-to-earth guy given his wealth and somebody who's willing to invest in a winning product rather than simply trying to gain the most profit out of our organization. As for his financial woes, I'm sure it'll stabilize and he's just hit a rough patch, sort of the way Heat3 and insfo explained it.

no i didn't, i understood his point AND yours, I just feel that when it comes to loss money, NOBODY can fairly comment on the effects OR reactions OF SOMEONE Else losses, relative, actual or speculative.

I'm sorry but this is a ridiculous definition of a rough time.

I like Micky and everything he's done for this franchise but if your definition of a rough time is going from a net worth of $5.1 billion to $4.6 billion than I'll take that any day (vast majority of which was inherited). I see no need to take the time out of my day to wish a billionaire well when their are over 3 billion people in this world that earn $2.50 or less a day and live below the poverty line.

Anyone have details on how exactly he has been losing all that money?
