When I think of him playing center, I immediately think of him fitting somewhere between Theo Ratliff and Ben Wallace...
My guess is they eventually want Varejao back in his 6th Man, spark off the bench anchoring the 2nd unit role. If that's the case, it is easier/cheaper to find a 4 who can score/defend than a 5; and the Cavs are concentrating their strengths.

Re: Thompson at Center
I see more of a Larry Nance type, a weak-side PF with great instincts about when to leave his man. Now if he could get Larry's 18 foot jumper from the baseline...
It's not whether you win or lose, it's how good you look playing the game

He's only 6-9 and doesn't have the build to do what Wallace was able to do.
I agree with the Nance comparison. That's where I see him headed.

I do not really like the thought of Thompson playing center, but I think he will be able to put a good amount of mass on his frame.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Re: Thompson at Center
Thompson will definitely get solid minutes at center against certain teams as he grows as a player and becomes a larger part of our rotation. Some teams like the Lakers and Jazz I dont think he can play the 5 against because they have far too much size.

Considering how bad the center position is Thompson should be fine. Most backup centers are small or offensively challenged anyways.
