If reports are true, both Bielema and Alvarez called Pitt and talked up Chryst in an effort to help him land the job and he pays back Bielema/Alvarez by raiding the Badgers coaching staff. I think that's in bad taste and my guess is both Barry and Bret aren't very happy with Chryst about this.

Had Chryst just taken Bostad and maybe Huxtable, i'd guess that Bielema/Alvarez could be reasonably ok with that. To then go and also lure away a key guy like Rudolph has to leave a bad taste in the mouths of Bret/Barry and i now wonder if they regret helping Chryst land the job at Pitt. I certainly would. They go to bat to help out Chryst and he pays them back by putting the Badgers program in a real bind.

Respect for the people who helped you out? Come on, Dude. Any responsibility he had to Wisconsin went out the door once he went to Pittsburgh. His job, first and foremost, is to build Pittsburgh into a winner. He needs to bring in coaches he thinks will contribute to that goal. You can't let your gratitude to Wisconsin stand in the way of doing your job. If he decided not to go for what he considers to be the best coaches because of his previous ties to Wisconsin, then he shouldn't be a head coach. Period.

We can bitch and moan about it. But, I'd hope Bielema and Barry aren't dumb enough to do that, because that tells me they weren't adequately prepared to deal with the fact that some of their top coaches might get promotions elsewhere that they weren't offered here. That is not an institutionally sound program.

And now for a curveball from Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema.

Wisconsin's new offensive coordinator is...Matt Canada of Northern Illinois University.

UW officials announced the hiring Tuesday.

"Matt has a terrific history as an offensive coordinator and has excelled at developing quarterbacks throughout his career," Bielema said in a UW release. "I know he is very excited about running a pro-style offense and handling a game the way we typically have at Wisconsin. I think this is a great hire for us and I can't wait for him to get to work with our coaches and players."

Last season, Canada worked for former UW defensive coordinator Dave Doeren and directed one of the most explosive offenses in the country. Northern Illinois finished among the top 12 in the country in scoring offense, total offense and rushing offense. The Huskies joined Wisconsin as two of the five teams in the country to average at least 230.0 yards rushing and passing last season.

NIU's quarterback, Chandler Harnisch, was a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and was named honorable mention All-America by SI.com. He finished ninth in the country in total offense, averaging 328.2 yards per game.

"I'm truly excited for the opportunity to come to Wisconsin," Canada said in a UW release. "It's a program that I've followed closely for a number of years. I've always been impressed with their tradition, especially offensively with their style of play, and I can't wait to be a part of that.

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I was a big fan of his scheme this year. Very up-tempo, and results in a lot of yards and points (except against Wisconsin's defense). Of course, it helped him that he was working alongside Chandler Harnish, but I figure that he'll be a really good OC for you guys. Good hire.

We're still going to be a pro style offense.

Wisconsin loses its sixth assistant coach.

Do people just hate working with BB? That's a **** ton to lose in one year.

As a Gopher fan who had to live through the Brewster era, BB should really make sure the guys he hires to fill these vacancies, really want to be there and are committed for the long term. Nothing kills a program faster than bringing in new coordinators and assistant coaches every year. That was probably Brewster's biggest failure. Adam Weber (a 4 yr starter) had 4 different offensive coordinators.

They lost the Safeties coach /ST coordinator? That seems like addition by subtraction.

My boy Leo Musso just picked up an offer from Wisconsin. When I was working at NIU earlier this week, they made it seem like he was all but guaranteed to be a Husky. I think he could be pretty dynamic, so I'm glad he'll in all likelihood end up in the B1G.
