Roy Hibbert extension....
Just read the article via RealGM now I guess I'm concerned.
I mean....why wait?
I think the Pacers can easily give him 10 million a season on just his current pay alone.
Does he think he deserves near Dwight Howard dollar or going to let Howard set the market for him?
I'm guessing the latter, but I want to hear opinions on this.

Why wouldn't he? Bigs have been getting paid. The last few bigs that signed an extension early could have gotten much more if they waited. He's been extremely healthy throughout his career also. I don't see the problem.

This is actually good. Shows he is confident he can keep his play up and if doesn't he'll cost less.

Then his agent is not a moron, rather a genius.

They've been getting overpaid. Can't believe Chandler got more than Nene. Can't believe Brendan Haywood got a contract at all. I understand wanting the biggest bang for your buck but guys like Chandler shouldn't be averaging 14.5 million a year over 4 years. If Hibbert wouldn't take a 5 year 50 million dollar contract then I weep for humanity. People are losing their homes and being tossed ont he street and you've got guys like Mike Tyson, Antonie Walker, Michael Jackson etc. going broke after making over a 100 million in their career. Give me a 200,000 dollar house and 1 million untaxed, that's a salary of 50,000 a year for 20 years. And you don't even have to pay taxes on it. You could live in Indiana on that salary no problem. What does Roy Hibbert need with more than 50 million on his 2nd contract? Probably already made 15. Unless he's saving up to go to Cali or New York after his career is over, that first 15 million should last you a lifetime in Indiana.

You're looking at it as a fan, they are definitely not. There's nothing wrong with what he's doing.

Re: Roy Hibbert extension....
Why be concerned.. His agent was basically saying that if Roy had any confidence, he'd wait and test his status as a restricted f/a, hence restricted.
David Falk is a scum-bag.... Back in the day he extorted the Nets. Made them sign Kerry Kittles to some stupid contract, in order for them to obtain the services of another of his clients, Vince Carter. That is so unethical.

Not really. Taking advantage of dumb, rich, money hungry owners to make yourself more money isn't what I'd call unethical. The nicest thing? No. The smart thing? Yes.
I have no clue who the agent is so maybe he is unethical, but not for that reason.

Leverage for Hibbert will be better as an RFA. Indiana will be spending a lot of capspace to retain him, but it'll be worth it.

Re: Roy Hibbert extension....
Maybe it's just his agent's way of telling Larry Bird that Roy deserves big bucks. I can't see Roy Hibbert in other team's uniform anytime soon. Is it just taunting?

A team like the Warriors won't have crazy money available. You'll have about $10 million available if you lose your first and let all your expirings including Rush walk.

Re: Roy Hibbert extension....
This is a good thing no?
We haven't yet played against a team with a good center that isn't a sophomore and Roy has yet to prove he can play an entire season on this level.
Just put Hill in those chains
Be our guest.
The Pacers don't depend on one player. Not Granger, not West, not Hibbert.
We play plenty of games where Hibbert has to sit because one of our other lineups is just playing better without him.

They don't even have their amnesty clause anymore but a team like the Rockets could make run at him or God forbid the Celtics.

Houston could easily clear cap space by declining their options on Thabeet, Flynn, Jordan Hill, and Terrence Williams, or some combination of them.
Boston would have max cap space as well.
However, we would have the right to match any offer that those teams throw out there.

May be better off trading Hibbert now. instead of paying him the max. Some team is going to make an offer the Pacers may match then regret for a long time.

Re: Roy Hibbert extension....
Hibbert looks to be good for a long time, but he probably will get about what Al Horford got. Probably a bit more for being a pure center. That's an easy contract to match.

Well in 2012 the Pacers have about 34.8 million in salaries already in place.
Figure Hibbert (12 million) and G. Hill (5-6 million), you're looking at 53 million on the books before draft choices and letting guys like Foster, Almundson, and Price walk.
2013 similar picture, this time it's Collison (5-6 million) and Hansbrough (7-8 million) with an anticipated salary picture of about 40 million again (20 million current plus Hill and Hibbert salaries), in the process losing West and D. Jones to free agency.
2014 is the biggest one though, that year we have both George and Granger in full play, and I'm anticipating about 10 million for George and if they choose to resign Granger about the same or slightly less (8-10 million) not even including Lance Stephenson if they don't release him prior, the Pacers will be looking at about 62-65 million in payroll between about 9 players, barring some gem keepers along the way.
Collison
George
Granger
Hansbrough
Hibbert
G. HIll
