H_F

Do we post these scenarios in here or PM them?
Also, do we have to do trades that could happen now, or could they be March 1st deals so FAs can be traded?

Either and Either. :D

If it looks like only the people that have expressed interest are going to enter, maybe a pm would work best but I liked the idea of just anyone at 3 in the morning throwing an entry in here that would completely redo any team.

So what's the official deadline on entries now?

My internet is acting the fool, think my router has crapped out, so most of my posting has been coming from my phone and it's crazy annoying to make long posts with links and boldings, italics, edits, quotes, etc., so that's my excuse lol.

I'm confused. Is this a scenario where there is an expansion draft team OR is this where we act like a GM of a certain team?

GM any team you want, just bring it with a big flip around for that team.

All entries a) must conform with the new CBA (if your unsure, check the new CBA sticky), b) be realistic in value, and c) must give any team of your choice an entirely new start for the new year. No small fixes.

And just to be clear, this means if you think a team should, then you can take any team and switch the direction management wants to take them in, without hearing No way we break up ____ regardless of the value, no way management is willing to rebuild (although thats a brilliant trade!), no way ... So post away.

Post#51 » by HartfordWhalers » Sat Jan 21, 2012 10:04 pm

Entry A
Minnesota Timberwolves
Goal: Make the Timberwolves competitive in the West, and make them among the top teams that compete for an NBA Championship. The only untouchable player is Kevin Love.

Trade #1: Minnesota Timberwolves - New Jersey Nets - Los Angeles Lakers

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive:
PG Deron Williams
SG Anthony Morrow
C Johan Petro
2012 1st Round Pick (from LAL, Top 20 Protected)

New Jersey Nets Receive:
PG Ricky Rubio
PG Luke Ridnour
SF Martell Webster
PF Anthony Randolph
C Nikola Pekovic
2013 1st Round Pick (from MEM)

Los Angeles Lakers Receive:
PG Jordan Farmar
2012 2nd Round Pick (from OKC)

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE WOLVES?

While Ricky Rubio might end up being a better player in the long run, the Wolves have become the laughing stock of the West and need to show Kevin Love that they are committed to winning. While Deron hasn't shown he's willing to re-sign with the Wolves, after playing with Kevin Love and Co. we think he'll be happy to re-sign and be a part of one of the best teams in the NBA in the future.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE NETS?

Let's be honest, this is by far the best deal they will get for Deron Williams and they're not going to pass on a deal like this because Deron Williams might bolt from Minnesota as a FA. Ricky Rubio is the piece to get from this deal, and he's an excellent franchise cornerstone.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE LAKERS?

They need some sort of improvement at PG, and they're unlikely to deal Bynum for Deron Williams as to keep him for D12. Assuming they can get Bynum for Dwight and some sort of variation for that, they're going to look to use their TPE and a pick to improve their PG situation. Farmar is familiar with the Lakers, and should be a better fit with the Lakers no longer running the triangle.

Trade #2: Minnesota Timberwolves - Philadelphia 76ers

Minnesota Timberwolves Get:
SF Andre Iguodala

Phialdelphia 76ers Get:
SG Malcolm Lee
SF Wesley Johnson
C Brad Miller

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE WOLVES?

They need a perimeter defener who can defend the opposing team's best wing player, and Andre Iguodala has been the subject of trade rumors for the last couple of years. Iguodala brings athleticism, and more importantly defense to the wing positions and should help show Deron Williams and Kevin Love that they are committed to winning.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE 76ERS?

The 76ers as currently constructed are stuck between two different directions, and as a result they're not good enough to compete for a championship or bad enough to get the #1 pick. They turn around and deal Iggy and begin the rebuilding process. Wes Johnson is a pretty good return piece, and they get some cap savings as well.

Trade #3: Minnesota Timberwolves - Cleveland Cavaliers

Minnesota Timberwolves Get:
PG Ramon Sessions
PF Anderson Varejao
C Ryan Hollins

Cleveland Cavaliers Receive:
SF Michael Beasley
C Darko Milicic
2012 1st Round Pick (from LAL)

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE WOLVES?

They need another rugged big man to put next to Kevin Love, one that is willing to do the dirty work and make other big men fight for every point. Varejao is just the guy to do that. Adding Ramon Sessions adds a nice combo guard off the bench to bring some scoring, and Ryan Hollins is a legitimate 7 footer.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE CAVS?

The Cavs look to add yet another potential building block to their team. With the Tristan Thompson needing more minutes, the Cavaliers go ahead and move Varejao to a contender. Beasley is an interesting piece to go along with Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson along with whoever they pick with their own pick (Harrison Barnes perhaps?)

Trade #4: MInnesota Timberwolves - Utah Jazz

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive:
SG Raja Bell
2012 1st Round Pick (Protection goes to Top 12 Protected in 2012, Top 10 Protected in 2013, and same in 2014 as currently)

Utah Jazz Receive:
PF Anthony Tolliver
Cash Considerations (2 million)

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE WOLVES?

They need another tough defender to bring off the bench. Enter Raja Bell whose a tough defender who can knock down an open shot. They also get a little bit less protection on the pick owed to them by Utah.

WHY IT COULD WORK FOR THE JAZZ?

Cap savings. They don't want Raja Bell on their books, so they get rid of him for an expiring contract. It seems unlikely that they'll have a top 12 selection this year, or a top 10 selection next year after they deal away Al Jefferson and Devin Harris away to contenders.

Draft
None

Free Agency
Extend Kevin Love to Maximum Deal
why?
Isn't this why I've been doing this? They finally offer him the five year maximum deal, and he gladly extends his deal with Minnesota.

Re-Sign Deron Williams to Maximum Deal
why?
Deron doesn't commit to Minnesot when he initially is traded, but after seeing the pieces put around him he decides to return. Dallas is going to be a wasteland in a couple of years, and neither the Lakers nor the Knicks have cap space to sign Deron.

Re-Sign Ryan Hollins to a two year, five million deal
why?
Need to keep another legitimate seven footer on the bench to use up as a body against the West. Size is the name of the game in the West, and adding another big body is never a bad idea.

Sign Matt Barnes to a one year, 2 million deal with player option on second year for 2.06 million
why?
Need to throw yet another defender to help defend the better wing players in the NBA. With guys like Durant and James among the best players, you can never have enough defenders

Sign Ronny Turiaf to a one year, 3 million deal
why?
Another big guy. So why not? At worse, brings a great veteran player and an even better teammate.

2012-13 Minnesota Timberwolves
PG: Deron Williams / Ramon Sessions / J.J. Barea
SG: Anthony Morrow / Raja Bell / Wayne Ellington
SF: Andre Iguodala / Matt Barnes
PF: Kevin Love / Derrick Williams / Ronny Turiaf
C: Anderson Varejao / Ryan Hollins / Johan Petro

Minutes
PG: Deron Williams [36] / Ramon Sessions [12]
SG: Anthony Morrow [28] / Raja Bell [16] / Matt Barnes [4]
SF: Andre Iguodala [34] / Matt Barnes [14]
PF: Kevin Love [30] / Derrick Williams [18]
C: Anderson Varejao [32] / Ryan Hollins [10] / Kevin Love [6]

This team is easily a top four team in the West, and given the struggles of the Lakers and Mavericks this team is probably the second best team in the West behind the Thunder and fourth best in the NBA. This team has a nice combination of offense and defense, along with youth and veterans. This is a very competitive team in the West, and a much better team the the Wolves in real life.

The gauntlet has been thrown down. Pm me or just post here and see if you can have the best radical reconstruction of a team.

Also, if posters can keep there comments about entries to themselves until after judging, that would be great. Thanks!

Entry B
The scenario is this: Dwight Howard has been traded to the Lakers, and the Nets decide to say “wow, this team really stinks, and is going to be even worse if Deron leaves, so why even bother?” With that in mind, they rebuild around youth and draft picks, giving them an exciting and bright future.

Trade 1:

Nets trade: Deron Williams
Nets receive: Darren Collison, Paul George, a 2012 top 10 protected Indiana Pacers first round pick, a 2012 top 10 protected Los Angeles Clippers first round pick, and the return of their 2014 second round pick.

Why? The Nets get good value for Deron, though certainly not near what they gave up to get him in the first place. However, George, Collison, and the picks should help the rebuild, and George with his athleticism especially fits next to Marshon Brooks, who looks like a 20 ppg guy. This trade also creates around 14.5 million in cap room for moves.

Pacers trade: Darren Collison, Paul George, and a 2011 top 10 protected first round pick.
Pacers receive: Rajon Rondo and Brandon Bass.

Why? The Pacers are missing a good point guard that can push them to the next level. On a good contract, Rondo is a great fit with their team, and Brandon Bass gives them more depth in the big rotation. If they don’t have a need for Bass, they could always try to flip him for a starting two guard or depth at another position.

Celtics trade: Rajon Rondo, Brandon Bass, a 2012 Top 10 protected Los Angeles Clippers first round pick, and the return of the 2014 Nets second round pick.
Celtics receive: Deron Williams.

Why? They take a chance on Deron re-signing with them just like they were going to do with CP3. Perhaps most of all, they also make a push for a championship this year with Deron on the team. Further, by adding Brandon Bass to the deal, they’ll seemingly have enough to offer another max deal along with Deron’s max deal in the summer, giving them a chance at a possible Deron/Howard duo. If not, they still have all of their own picks to work with for the rebuild and can sign-and-trade Deron for some assets.

Trade 2:

Nets trade: Anthony Morrow
Nets receive: Wes Johnson

Why? Nets trade a role player, who has no role on a rebuilding team, in exchange for a young(ish) prospect that can hopefully have some flashes with the playing time that will come to him.

Grizzlies trade: OJ Mayo
Grizzlies receive: Anthony Morrow

Why? They trade for a cheap role player that can be a dynamite change of pace from Tony Allen off the bench, solidifying themselves for the playoffs.

Timberwolves trade: Wes Johnson
Timberwolves receive: OJ Mayo

Why? The T-Wolves trade for a starting shooting guard that fits with the age of the core and works impeccably with Rubio at the point. With Malcolm Lee also in the fold, they have a good young trio of guards to go forward with.

Trade 3:

Nets trade: Jordan Farmar, Damion James, Sundiata Gaines, a 2011 Miami Heat second rounder, and cash considerations.
Nets receive: CJ Watson, Ronny Brewer, and a 2012 top 20 protected Chicago first round pick.

Why? They get a first round pick in exchange for taking on the salary of CJ Watson and Brewer, which will allow the Bulls more room to work under the luxury tax next season.

Hawks trade: Kirk Hinrich
Hawks receive: Jordan Farmar, Damion James, a 2012 Miami Heat second round pick, and cash considerations.

Why? They get rid of Hinrich, who hasn’t been able to play all season, while getting another cheap backup for Teague, a middling prospect, a late second round pick, and cash that basically negates any salary that Farmar has next season if he decides to pick up his option.

Bulls trade: CJ Watson, Ronny Brewer, and a 2012 top 20 protected first round pick.
Bulls receive: Kirk Hinrich and Sundiata Gaines.

Why? They get a backup one and two, who can work well with either Rose or Hamilton, while also gaining some room under the luxury tax, which allows them to perhaps use the MLE or re-sign Omer Asik, and only losing a late first round pick.

*Since the Nets would actually be under the cap at this point, this can be two separate deals between the Nets and the Hawks and then the Nets and the Bulls., with Farmar staying on the Nets. However, I put them as one for the sake of simplicity.

The Nets roster for the remainder of the season:

Collison/Watson
Brooks/Brewer/Stevenson
George/Johnson
Humphries/Williams/Williams
Lopez/Okur/Petro

Picks:

2012 Nets
2012 Clippers (top 10 protected)
2012 Pacers (top 10 protected)
2012 Houston Rockets (lottery protected)
2012 Bulls (top 20 protected)

Needs:

Long term options at the point guard and power forward positions. The team construction would be based around the offensive talents of Lopez and Brooks, meaning defensive athletes will be in high demand for this team.

As for what they do come draft time? They go BPA, whether it is a pf or a wing. If things work out, obviously the best player to fit on that team would be Anthony Davis, who would blend in seamlessly with Lopez. If not, they draft Barnes/Kidd-Gilchrist and trade Wes Johnson to a team like the Raptors, whom could have Ed Davis on the block, depending on who they themselves draft. Or they draft Barnes/Kidd-Gilchrist, and try to trade Johnson for a pick high enough to draft John Henson, who would work great with Lopez, as well.

Team: Atlanta Hawks
Goal: Get the Hawks over the hump and to the NBA finals
Trade number 1:
Atlanta Trades: Joe Johnson, Al Horford, 2012 first rounder, 2014 first rounder
Orlando Trades: Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, Chris Duhon
Why for Atlanta: They get the NBA's best big man in Dwight Howard, a guy born and bred in Atlanta; they also keep Josh Smith who's Dwight's best friend which would give Dwight incentive to at least pick up his option for next year and give the Hawks a chance to prove themselves to him. This deal alone makes the Hawks legit contenders.
Why for Orlando: They swap Hedo and Duhon's bad deals for Joe Johnson's bad contract; but even though Joe's deal is absurd he's still an all-star SG and one of the best at his position; speaking of all-stars they would also get Al Horford who's a 2 time all-star PF/C who's just now entering his prime, Horford is also a Florida favorite from his days with the Gators, this deal keeps Orlando in contention in the east. They also get 2 first rounders.
Trade number 2:
Atlanta Trades: Tracy Mcgrady, Kirk Hinrich, 2014 second rounder
Cleveland Trades: Anderson Varejao
Why for Atlanta: They get a PF who has great rebounding numbers and always hustles after loose balls, this deal also lets Smith slide over to the SF spot; the Hawks have frontcourt players who can each get 10 rebounds on any given night. SF: Smith, PF: Varejao, C: Dwight
Why for Cleveland: They shed Varejao's long term deal and get 2 expirings which would help the Cavs with their Rebuild and would allow them to target any player in free agency.
Free Agency: First thing's first: Give Dwight a Max Contract (IDK what the max is now, I think it's 5 year 96 million but IDK, give him the max whatever it is.) and Josh Smith a 4 year 46 million dollar deal. Then give Jeff Teague a 4 year 36 million dollar deal. The Hawks would also have to sign a solid SG, probably one who would sign for the vet min, I'd say Tracy Mcgrady again. The Hawks would also have to resign Radmonovic to stretch the floor, Pargo for deph purposes, Willie Green because of his ability to explode off the bench, and Ivan Johnson because he can always provide a spark off the bench, resign each to vet min deals. The Hawks would also have to sign another 3 pt shooter to stretch the floor even more because of the double teams Dwight would get; I'd say Eddie House for the vet min. Finally resign Collins and Stackhouse just to have the minimum of 13 players on the roster.
Draft: No picks in 2012 except for a low second rounder
Amnesty: Amnesty Marvin Williams to give the Hawks the money to resign Dwight, Teague and Josh.
Roster going into next season:
PG: Jeff Teague (signed long term)/ Jannero Pargo
SG: Tracy Mcgrady/ Willie Green/ Eddie House
SF: Josh Smith (signed long term)/ Vladimir Radmonovic/ Jerry Stackhouse
PF: Anderson Varejao/ Ivan Johnson
C: Dwight Howard (signed long term)/ Zaza Pachulia/ Jason Collins.

Washington Wizards

Trade Deadline Deal:

Wizards: Andray Blatche
Grizzlies: O.J. Mayo

--O.J. Mayo could most certainly use a change of scenery, and playing alongside a player of John Wall's caliber could help bring out that untapped potential we have been waiting to see for a few years. Grizzlies get a replacement for Darrell Arthur for when they will feel his loss the most..the post-season.

Draft:

#1 or #2- Anthony Davis

Draft Day Deal:

Wizards: JaVale McGee + Jan Vesley + #31
Kings: DeMarcus Cousins

---Obviously what transpired between DeMarcus and Westphal wasn't a good look, and this isn't the first time we've heard of Cousins causing problems with coaches. Despite the firing of Paul Westphal the team is not doing much better even though it is still early. Similar to the Deron-Sloan fiasco, the Kings need to ship him elsewhere imo. Washington has his good friend John Wall, and a coach who has plenty of experience and could mesh with a personality such as Demarcus'. Sac features Hickson as the go-2-guy in the post with McGee watching his back, and the Wiz reunite the Kentucky kids again with a new one in Anthony Davis.

Amnesty:

Rashard Lewis--open up room to dive into the huge free agent pool

Free Agency:

1. Wilson Chandler- multi year starting @ 8.5 - 9 mil
2. Aaron Brooks- multi-year starting @ 5 mil
3. Ian Mahinmi- 1 year @ 3.5 mil

Roster:

John Wall/ Aaron Brooks
O.J. Mayo/ Jordan Crawford
Wilson Chandler/ Chris Singleton
Anthony Davis/ Trevor Booker/ Kevin Seraphin
DeMarcus Cousins/ Ian Mahinmi

-With a whole offseason/trainging camp, this team could compete for a playoff spot especially in the East. It's well balanced, and filled with young players who have something to prove. Would be a very good defensive team and explosive as well. I firmly believe all of their talents/styles compliment eachother well, and combined would be a significant upgrade than where they currently are at, and headed.
