Strikeforce March Card (card updated)

Post#1 » by skflives » Sat Jan 7, 2012 4:50 am

No Barnett/Cormier apparently but still a very good card.

Main Card:
Champ Miesha Tate vs. Ronda Rousey (for female bantamweight title)
K.J. Noons vs. Josh Thomson (likely #1 contenders match)
Paul Daley vs. Kazuo Misaki
Alexis Davis vs. Sarah Kaufman
Gegard Mousasi vs.Mike Kyle
Caros Fodor vs. Pat Healy (winner likely one more win away from title shot)

with Cyborg being busted for roids.... #1 vs #2 women's fight right there.

it would be cool if Melendez was on this card but if the apparent #1 contender bout would mean less than two months for them. maybe we see Roger fight again, or Sergei/Bigfoot.

It would be cool to see Roger Gracie fight again. Maybe they can match him up with OSP considering OSP didn't suffer a lot of damage in the Mousasi fight. As for Bigfoot/Kharitonov. That's not going to happen. Dana White said Strikeforce only has 2 more heavyweight fights in store. You have the tourney finals and then one more fight for the winner later in the year. I expect Sergei and Bigfoot to be scheduled fights in the UFC soon if they aren't cut.

If you have directtv you should be getting a free preview for Showtime this weekend, it started yesterday which I didn't know until late last night.

It'll be nice to see the SF HW tourney put out of its misery, but the emergence of the two finalists (or rediscovery in Barnett's case) has been a nice development. I'm still confused about why the winner is supposed to stick around for one more fight. Maybe they've got something up their sleeve. I think Rousey bulldozes Tate here. I'd like to see Noons take Thompson. Who knows how Thompson will look.

it's kinda weird one (or both) heavyweights are getting another fight, especially after considering that there are reports Bigfoot Silva is going to fight Cain in April in the UFC. Who else is left for either finalist? Sergei (who Barnett beat), Arlovski (is with ProElite, not sure how his standing with SF/Zuffa is), or one of the younger heavyweights?

She did? I never heard that... not that it's surprising in the least however.

Updated the card info to include the Paul Daley./Kaz Misaki and Alexis Davis/Sarah Kaufman fights. So far its shaping up to be an awesome and meaningful card. HWGP finals. Woman's 135 pound title fight. Number one contenders matches for both the Men's 155 pound belt and the female 135 pound belt. Plus a fight that might determine Tyrone Woodley's next opponent for the vacant WW belt (especially if Misaki wins since T-Wood already beat Daley).

I'll be pretty surprised if the HW Grand Prix finals makes it on this card. Cormier seemed pretty noncommittal about his hand when interviewed last night.

A tough matchup for Fodor. The guy has some promise but Healy is a big lightweight and has played the spoiler role very well in beating 2 other lightweight prospects in Lyle Beerbolm and Maximo Blanco. Its an interesting matchup. Strikeforce has less shows to put on this year than previous years so they seem to be moving the prospects up faster than they normally would and its bitten them in the arse with Lorenz Larkin, OSP and Amagov. Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be the case with Fodor as well. Also, this fight doesn't make up for the fact that the card seems to have lost Daniel Cormier vs.Josh Barnett because Cormier needs more time to heal up. That was a major buzz kill for me.

Apparently Mike Kyle vs. Gegard Mousasi is going to be the latest addition to the card. I would have preferred to see Mousasi fight Rafael Calvacante for the vacant title with King Mo out the picture but whatever.

I'm going to get you all interested in Strikeforce if it kills me dammit.

Randy Couture's son Ryan takes on Conor Heun on this card as well. I am not the high on Couture as a prospect. I haven't seen Heun much but I thought he should alot of tenacity in his loss to KJ Noons. But to be honest what I remembered most from that fight was when I Mauro sounded like he said "and he secures the a$$ mount" or something like that. I was dying.

Mousasi is one of my favorite fighters to watch. He has as much natural talent as any guy in the world, but he needs to work on his TDD (he looked slightly improved versus OSP). Apparently after that OSP fight he said he has never had any formal MMA training, like no strict BJJ lessons, cardio, etc. That is crazy.

This card is filling out nicely. Hopefully King Mo can get his 'supplement' issues straightened out so he can fight Feijo, then having the winner of that fight the winner of Mousasi/Kyle. I'd love a Mouasi/Mo rematch... I doubt it would be dull like the first time.

I remember back 3ish years ago when there were always polls on sherdog/underground etc: who will be the ufc lhw champion in 2011-2012 etc. and it was always split between Jon Jones and Mousasi.

As you said, one of the most talented guys around, but until he gets with a legitimate fight camp, he won't reach his potential. Could you imagine if that guy went to Jackson's/AKA/random other big camp?

the video cuts right to the part. i slightly exaggerated by saying "no formal" but nevertheless what he said is shocking considering he's a top LHW in the world.
