If John **** Havlicek can come off the bench, you can come off the bench Marcus.
Winning makes things more palatable. You can run platoon if you're winning, for a while at least, but it still gets old even when you are seeing results. This isn't the situation where you try to resolve your problems by swapping out one of your top players. Smart is going a little bit Westphal here. Although I will admit that Thornton is a big part of the problem when he consistently drives into the paint 5 on 1, but so is Tyreke. What kind of message does that send? Not saying Marcus is right or wrong, but there is a history here and if a player is complaining and you're losing? Not good, especially when you just plunked down 8 million a year on the guy.
By his comments I almost get the feeling that Jimmer is going to take his place.
A) Nobody said anything about platooning.
B) This is all working under the assumption that coming off the bench is a demotion. It's not, and players that see it that way are self-centered and wrong and they're the problem.
Of course, this is all currently moot, but if it hadn't been, that would still be true.
Was merely bringing another example where a coach tries to be more than he needs and in the end messes up chemistry and leaves his franchise holding the bag.
B is true, however, just like Cousins should just "toughen up", he is what he is and it's up to whoever it is in power to make sure it can work, not to wish in one had and **** in the other. Not a perfect world and unfortunately there are quite a few babies in professional sports. If that baby is one of your best chips you have to break out the boobie even if they don't deserve it.
