The Cavs are a small market team that makes signing big name players a struggle. But my point which has yet to be refuted is player opinion of Gilbert around the league is very poor and it only hurts the Cavs ability to sign free agents. The Cavs will need to overpay to get anyone and thats not a good thing.[/quote]

Hahahahah holy nitpicking a small spelling error that had no effect whatsoever on Bmac's post...

Why didn't you answer Bmac's question about the last big name free agent to sign in Cleveland? And not just say "big names have signed with bad teams" pretty vague if u ask me

O thats right, because you want your "theory" to be the only reason for Cleveland's lack of free agency activity...

I've came to the conclusion the only time a small market (or any market) really overpays is when, the team sucks, the team is in bidding war with itself or others, or by giving stupid extensions and this is sometimes fueled by a 2nd team signing them to an offer sheet as a FA (marc gasol deal).

His defense was/is poor and that didnt help this team either. I dont think the team would have won a ring with Lebron, he choked again in the finals last year with Wade and Bosh so I question whether he will ever win a ring. Time will tell I guess. The big question I have is would the Cavs have made the Mo trade if Lebron had stayed?

I think the Mo trade would've been made. Baron would've been seen as more of an asset and the idea of dealing for him while we had LeBron had been discussed before. Imagine having both Irving and LeBron right now.... or Derrick Williams

If the Mo trade still went down, I almost think they would have gone for Kanter with the first pick, Williams would have been kind of redundant no? Probably still would have gone with Kyrie, but would Lecon let him have the ball or just try to turn Kyrie into a 3pt spot up shooter?

The Cavs offered Varejao 3 yrs and $20m which he turned down and opted to sign for LESS with the Bobcats at 3 yrs at $17.4m with a player option after year 2. The Bobcats deal was FOR LESS MONEY than the Cavs offer and Varejao opted to sign with the Bobcats. The regular occurrence is when the incumbent team offers X and a competing team offers more than X and the incumbent team matches the competing team. That is not what happened with Varejao. Varejao wanted out.

I don't recall this but I will tell you that if this happened the way you're describing it, then Anderson Varejao is the dumbest person to ever walk the face of the earth and his agent is the second dumbest.

The guy was a restricted free agent, correct? You're telling me that he turned down more money from the Cavs in order to sign an offer sheet (not a contract, but an offer sheet) from a team for less money? Knowing full well that the Cavs had already shown that they were willing to pay more than what the offer sheet was worth and, therefore, would obviously match it?!?!? Given that the Cavs were willing to pay more money, why on earth would Varejao have thought that the Cavs would have refused to match an offer sheet for less?

So is Varejao really the dumbest person in the world or do you have your facts wrong? Please advise.

The Cavs had cap space while Gilbert was the owner?
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Varejao didn't take less money, as was the case with all restricted free agents the the Cavs have had, they've told their free agent to go and find a deal that'd set their price. In fact, the Cavs refused to bid against themselves with all their free agents.

You all probably saw it, but LeBron's good friends with Kyrie and Tristan. As much as I love the Heat (sorry guys... haha) if they don't win by 2014, I think LeBron's opting out and he might go back to Cleveland.

In 2 years he'll have just turned 29, so I would still say he's gonna be in his prime. When do you guys think he'll start to decline? Plus, I think that's another factor if he decides to opt out. Wade will still be playing, but at what level?

Imagine if Lebron was out for the year and the Cavs drafted Kyrie.

So Cleveland could potentially receive a higher draft pick this summer by exercising their right to swap firsts with Miami? I imagine that would be stupendous.

We just have to hope for Miami injuries next year as we have their 2013 pick
