Lol what was Welbeck doing there? He had every chance just to hit it.

Re: 2011
Boos at the whistle. Not surprised, Arsenal equalised, Ox looked dangerous, and then Wenger stifled the momentum by taking the kid off for Arshavin.

The thing is nothing could be done, and that's the similarities between the two incidents. Absolutely nothing the player could do to avoid it.
The difference is Evra was going to block a shot so he kept his arms inside his body, Ekotto slid into block with his arm out.

Are we talking about the same incident here? Ekotto slid in with his arm literally in his chest. I' talking about the one in the first half where Micah Richards was going for a cross then it hit Ekotto's arm.

I think so, I've only seen one replay. I'll try to find a clip of it.
Piers is being dramatic. We've been out of the race for the league for months. And if Van Persie leaves it's for way more than that substitution.
Apparently Chamberlain was suffering from cramp, and that's why he was subbed, btw.

Re: 2011
Yeah, you knew it wasn't our day when that happened. The only player on our team capable of actually hitting the net with a shot, misses a gimme like that.
I wonder how much we could get for selling Theo Walcott?

I'm willing to bet that at least one or two teams would be inclined to stump up a lot of money for him. He's young enough that managers will see his combination of raw pace and solid technical ability and think they turn him into the finished article.

He'd be perfect for Liverpool right now, too. Even though they spent all that money on Downing, they aren't playing him as an out-and-out winger and are using him on the right much of the time. That maybe doesn't hurt Downing so much, but it's removing one of Andy Carroll's big strengths because they aren't whipping balls across between the 6-yard box and the penalty spot for him to attack, and let's face it, Carroll hardly needs any help putting in poor performances right now. I know Walcott's final ball isn't always the best, which is one of his problems, but having him down the right side would give Liverpool a new dimension.

Re: 2011
ozzy convinced me to come over to the soccer board and ditch the long running OT soccer thread we had on the bobcats board. i'm dying to talk soccer with some passionate fans so i am making the jump.
but way too much arsenal talk in this thread :|
where are my chelsea fans?
is this finally the window that chelsea buys a winger? we havent had one since robben and duff left... yet we refuse to play any formation other than a 4-3-3, you know, the formation that demands you have wingers. i dont know how much more i can take of watching bosingwa and malouda hitting crosses into the stands. in fact, i dont know how much more bosingwa i can take, period. ivan cant get back in the lineup fast enough.
also looking forward to finally seeing mceachran get a good run of games with swansea. we can finally see if he has the strength to handle playing at this level. we all know he has the technical skills.

Re: 2011
Chelsea have a confirmed bid in for Willian from Shaktar. He would be a great move for them, I like him a lot. Shaktar are said to be holding out for more money, but Chelsea will probably cough it up. He's a full Brazil international now, and young, with a ton of ability.
