well it is about need and fit as much as anything. the league is moving away from old-school centers and is becoming increasingly perimeter oriented. lopez is a mediocre low post player, a weak rebounder, and a weak defender.
i would pick gallinari ahead of lopez unless i had no center and i wanted a classic throwback center. that means a gm picks gallinari about 25 out of 30 times.
gallinari is 6'10" and very efficient and is an above-average defender-- and you can't teach height. gordon is 6'3" and also efficient according to his statistics for eFG% and TS% for the position but not known for defending the position-- is he a good defender? i admit that i haven't seen him play enough to say for sure. also for gordon, whose usage rate is significantly higher, doesn't garner a fairer/higher share of assists.
