Flynn was on everyone's board and he netted us Rubio on the same night.
(if you want to mention his trade of Ty Lawson, you have to mention a whole mess of GMs neglected to even DRAFT Ty, so that seems like a league wide boner there)
Wes Johnson came down to Wes or Cousins, while Wes hasn't panned out I'm still ok with NOT having Cousins attitude on this team.
if anything I'm pretty happy with what Kahn has done with the roster he inherited.
In 2009 After jennings at #10...
NJN - Had harris who was playing very well atthe time
CHA - Just drafted DJ the season before I think
IND - Had major need at PF
PHX - Nash
DET - Stuckey had been playing well at the time, Daye was clearly best fit
CHI - Rose
PHI - Jrue great pick for them was slated to go very early in most mocks until later in the season
Ty fell because no teams really needed a pg in that draft range. At draft time it was very apparent through team needs that one of the following PG's would fall to the wolves at 18. All guys most would have rather had then flynn by quite a margin even back then...
Teague, Holiday, Lawson, Jennings.
Lawson was a great prospect, teague a fantastic multidimensional scorer. Jennings may have fallen as the rumor was a commitment to flynn with MIL at #10. Holiday a highly touted freshman,
There was zero reason to draft back to back PG's at 5 or 6 when this is considered. They could have picked up Curry and traded back with NYK or whoever for pick(hill/derozan/clark) + asset.
Maybe the flynn + Johnson for Tyreke deal was real and they just couldnt pull it through, but all I care about is actual results. It was a wasted pick. Curry was the clear cut choice after #5, I didn't like it then and I don't like it now.
In 2010...
I still would have taken cousins. I'm off and on about Wes even then, He could turn out really good, but still Cousins had a great post game, thrived in transition, and can pass.clear BPA. I can accept the fact that at the time we had love, al, and I think beas was just aquired. also lots of people had monroe above johnson too. But he was clear bpa and Im sure several teams would have been willing to trade up. That doesn't even take into account the wolves picking up lazar, baffling. Or trading the #16 for limited minutes of Webster when it was known how badly he hurt his back. I even look past that, its no biggie and I like webster more than future HOF LuKE BaBbItZ. Oh and while Flynn looked passable his first season, if the rumor was true that IND offered a redo with #10(george) for him. Thats just another mistake. I dont even think flynn is that bad, he just needs to run pnr all day long. But whatever!
The only thing the franchise made the right decision on in the past 7 drafts that wasnt a no brainer(rubio\williams)... was mayo for love.
Then lets tie up ~4m-8m a season in various pgs. Sessions, luke, and barae.
