MIN - NJN

Post#1 » by shrink » Tue Jan 24, 2012 12:08 am

NJN GETS: Beasley + Tolliver (exp)

MIN GETS: Morrow + Petro + HOU 1st

WHY FOR NJN?
1, Mayo appears off the table, and Beasley has always produced better than Mayo
2. Fills the need with three injured SF's. Beasley's back soon
3. They wanted Mayo for flexible 2012 salary - Beasley is the same.
4. Potential to move $7.5 mil in guaranteed 2012 salary (plus hou pick?) allows them to make full offer for Dwight, pay Deron, pay Brook Lopez, and pay their pick.

WHY FOR MIN?
1. Provides a good scorer at the SG spot
2. Gives more minutes to develop Derrick Williams
3. We wouldn't have to pay Beasley next year, or get outbid and lose him for nothing
4. Creates a $2 mil TPE for Tolliver
5. Adds a decent trade asset in the HOU lottery protected 1st

Do we trust Ellington going forward so that this is unnecessary?

I like the idea of getting more playing time for Williams, but i'm not a big fan of Morrow. I'd probably say no.

I posted a version of this before and would like it for the wolves, especially with the 1st round pick. I think Mirrow's outside shooting would be fantastic. What are his other strenghts and weaknesses?

I'd rather give Beasley a chance under Adelman. Who knows? Beasley just might become the player a lot of people think he can be, and we might get a good player at a discounted rate.

I'd be willing to trade Beasley as part of package that nets us a long term piece to our core, but not this.

Strengths = shooting

Weaknesses = everything else

With respect to O.J. Mayo, I'm told Memphis is looking for a No. 1 pick in virtually every discussion they have had about Mayo

The question is "how high of a 1st?" I'd give one of the Memphis/Jazz picks for him, but no lottery team is giving their pick for him.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

I like the trade overall. I'm not convinced we'll see Beasley back next year. That being said, getting Morrow and a 1st for him and Tolliver is a good return. I tend to view Morrow as more of a reserve SG than a starter but he's clearly a better shooter than anything we can run out there right now. If adding Morrow helps us not use Ellington and trade Ridnour I'm on board.

I gotta bump this thread because this is a trade we should pursue. Pekovic has been a down right beast lately and he's probably going to start demanding double teams. We need guys who can drain open shots. Thus far in Morrow's career, he's hitting 3's at a historic rate: 2nd all time in 3p%.

I hate to trade Beasley because I still think he has unrealized potential. Plus, he hasn't had enough time on the court to learn how to play off of Rubio.

I like Shrink's original trade, but I have an alternative trade as well.

Randolph, Tolliver, Utah 1st and/or Memphis 1st
for
Morrow, Petro

NJ still gets salary relief to go after D12, plus the Utah 1st and/or Mem. 1st. The Wolves get to hold on to Beasley for the rest of the year to see if he's worth extending.

Pekovic/Milicic/Miller/Petro
Love/Williams
Beasley/Johnson/Webster
Morrow/Ellington/Lee
Rubio/Ridnour/Barea

I still think we need to abide by the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" idea, at least for now.

I think I only make this move if we run out of other options at SG after the season. I love Morrow as a shooter but he offers virtually nothing else. I'm not 100% sold on having him be our starting SG long-term. If he was an option off the bench, I would love it, but as a starter I'm not ready to commit to this.
