I wasn't paying much attention during his walkout and he didn't make it to the 2nd round in either of his last two fights.

Melvin is the same guy he's always been. In the last two fights he faced a fighter in Lauzon who could handle his athleticism plus sub him and a fighter with no glaring flaws and a sub game in Jim Miller. Prior to that he was facing slow Shane Roller and Evan Dunham who wasn't a good athlete and had suspect striking defense as even Escudero almost finished him on the feet. Before that he was getting gift decisions. So people were under the illusion he had improved when he really had not.
