Re: McGee not getting extended?
The Wizards have all the leverage with Mcgee. he is restricted and RFAs frequently don't get offers at all. i don't see why they would have any sense of urgency.
I am undecided on whether i would want to resign Mcgee this summer. I can see both sides of the argument.

It really depends on how much he improves or matures this season. If he has not made any improvements, we might need to think about trading him while he has some value. Maybe sign and trade...

Re: McGee not getting extended?
I think Pam McGee's comments and the tone of things lately says both player and team need to move in a different direction. I like Javale and think he can be a good player but I am interested to see what his value is perceived to be around the league.
Seems to me it would be way better to trade him than to lose him as a FA for nothing, because the Wizards do not want to pay him what another team will. I think it would be better to be proactive than reactive.

No surprise.
But since Flip is now gone, things will be re-evaluation between now and the trade deadline.
Can't really take a position on what they will do moving forward. Before the Flip firing, I would say they were going separate ways. Now there is a window opened now. Could still end up they trade him but I think they want to see if anything changes first.

The change in coaching gives everyone a new beginning. It totally makes sense for the Wizards to hold off on McGee. I said this earlier - it makes sense that McGee has contract pressure to continue to keep his head in games - his momma's comments only added to the need for waiting. I'm totally not sold that the Wizards plan on dumping McGee. Everyone is under review right now, which means EG may be gone when the Wizards finally decide on McGee. My guess is Ted isn't allowing any change until after the season. At that point, we'll get his grade on EG.

Re: McGee not getting extended?
No reason to extend. Still way too many questions about how good he's going to be. Play out the season and figure things out this summer.

Re: McGee not getting extended?
The only reason to extend him would be if McGee would agree to a discount to a commonly accepted fair value (whatever that is). Since McGee is unlikely to do so, there is no reason to expect an extension.

Re: McGee not getting extended?
You look at McGee and his athleticism, and you think- with all that talent, and the fact that he's basically a good kid who works hard and keeps his nose clean, that there has to be some way to get through to him and get him to reach his potential.
There must be some form of motivation that he will respond to, to get him to, say, finish in the top 5 in the league in rebounding. Some really badass form of hardware or software? A summer house in Manila? His own network variety-comedy-science fiction-reality-geeky randomversion of In Living Color show?

What will happen is McGee will get a better offer than Washington is willing to pay. At best, the Wizards will sign and trade. At worst, they will lose McGee for nothing. No way will the Wizards pay more than what they are unwilling to pay now.
What won't happen is the Wizards resign McGee to a low ball offer.

And when this happens, everyone will long for all of the McGee trade ideas they are currently flaming.

Re: McGee not getting extended?
All it takes is 1 team to screw up, but... my guess is he ends up just like Nick - he and Pam will be expecting enormous offers in free agency, won't get any for even half of what they expected, and he'll end up signing the 1 year offer from the Wiz and try UFA the next year.

Re: McGee not getting extended?
which is the same as losing him for nothing, only one year later
there are really to options here
a) extend/resign him and slightly overpay to do so
b) trade him now as his value is high

Let him walk, offer Hibbert whatever McGee was asking.

McGee will get offers and hopefully he finds a team that can afford to provide trainers to help him elevate his game.

Without significant improvement I think the Wizards will have to let him walk if he gets a max/near max offer. If it is a situation like Nick Young, I think McGee and the Wizards should be able to come to some type of agreement. I would think I would be a 2 or 3 year deal. Or maybe a cheaper version of Kevin Love's deal - 3 years with a player option.

My guess is that he'll remain inconsistent all year, lowering his free agency value to a figure lower than it would be if we extended him right now. He'll get an offer from somebody and we'll match.

Concur with not extending McGee. Let the new GM and coach decide if they want to keep him.

Re: McGee not getting extended?
The problem with McGee is between his ears, and I doubt that's going to change soon, if ever.
I would prefer that we don't end up being the team regretting the decision to give him an eight figure contract.
Ideally he comes back having signed a QO ready to bust out in 12/13 so that we can trade him and his bird rights during the deadline.

Like Nick Young, in that situation, I don't believe there would be any Bird rights for either the Wizards or a team that traded for him.
