Houston declines 2012-13 option on Jonny Flynn.
Houston failed to excercise options on Flynn, Jordan HIll, Thabeet, and Terrence Wililams.
From the Rockets board. Don't have a link.
We really got screwed on draft day when Houston demanded we throw in a 2nd rounder to complete the Flynn trade due to his hip. I said at the time if they didn't pick up his option that they will have pulled some shady crap just becausethey knew about 4 other trades were contrigent on that flynn trade, and it turned out to be true. Don't think Kahn will be happy dealing with Morey from now on.

Sort of surprised about Hill, I thought he had looked all right in Houston. Flynn and Thabust are no-brainer cuts.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Not a surprise. Houston is playing for cap space, and Flynn being a top 5 pick, has a fairly expensive option. I don't really follow your logic on the second part though.

Re: Houston declines 2012-13 option on Jonny Flynn.
Houston demanded a 2nd rounder from us hours after the trade had been agreed upon because of Flynn's hip.
Why do they do that if they aren't even planning on picking up his option?
Dirty Morey. that's why.

Because if it wasn't for his hip, he wouldn't suck as much and there might have been a chance they would have picked up his option?

"That's why the last two years weren't guaranteed," Walsh said. "Either way, he knew it could have happened either way."

He sucks with a healthy hip too. Morey retconned a previously agreed to trade to squeeze another asset out of us. We only acquiesced because we had 4 other trades riding on it. The "hip" thing was just an excuse. Deal had been in the works well before draft day, they had done their homework on Flynn. Him not picking up Flynn's option is a validation of the point I made on draft day. Were I Kahn, I would have said, "you want a 2nd round pick too, pick up flynn's option TODAY to prove it."
But whatever. It's a 2nd round pick. But it's the kind of thing that builds negative trust throughout the league with your GM peers.

I still say Flynn looked promising his rookie year. Don't know what happened but once he got back from injury he was not the same. Maybe it's physically but I think mentally the guy has been utterly destroyed. Now he seriously has his NBA career in jeopardy. Madness.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

That's Houston's problem, not ours

I don't understand Hill or Williams (kind of), although that Thabeet trade just looks worse and worse.
It might be worth looking into these guys during the offseason. Not Williams, since Adelman didn't like him, but maybe Hill? He seemed to play alright under Adelman.

it's probably a more stupid trade for memphis imo...they traded thabeet and a first rounder for battier who was an unrestricted free agent and always likely to leave...granted it did cover for the injury of gay and they did have a nice playoff run but still.....
i'm shocked they gave up on jordan hill?? dude was looking really nice the few times i've seen them play.

It saved Memphis a shiton of money though. Admittedly it's a moot point considering the money Gay, Gasol, Randolph and Conley are making but hey, it's something.
And it seems we're all in agreement. Sign Jordan Hill in the summer, ?????, Championships

I agree with youngguns that this after the fact request for an additional asset, when MIN had so much locked into future trades, was unfair business practice and could hurt his reputation.
Still, with Flynn unextended, Kahn still clearly won that trade because of the MEM 1st.
HOU GETS: #20 + Flynn + future 2nd + cash
MIN GETS: #23 + Miller + MEM prot 1st

I agree, at least to the extent where I feel bad for him. He certainly had his share of rookie struggles, but I don't see any reason why he had to be out of the league by the time his rookie contract expired. He never seemed comfortable with Rambis. I think his confidence was definately shattered and he became a mess between his ears.
I'd like to see someone like the Knicks make a move for him, like for cash. I am sure he could be had for nothing. The Knicks PG play his horrible. Douglas and Shumpert are 2s. Davis is out and Bibby doesn't have a lot of minutes in him. Antoni's system might give Flynn some renewed energy and confidence... and his lack of defense would fit the Knicks scheme to a 'T'. I don't know, I'd just like to see him get another shot in some capacity somewhere.

I've always liked Flynn, hopefully someone gives him a chance somewhere. He could definitely be used as a team's backup PG I would think.

Worth going after Terrence williams? yes he cant shoot but he's one hell of talent. Yes Rick didn't play him last year and doesn't seem they hit it off due to terrence williams youtube channel episode.
