Its too bad about Victor Martinez;

The Tigers would have had an interesting with Cabrera, Martinez, and Fielder not to mention Peralta and Avila.

You have to keep in mind that Ilitch is 82. He's probably not too worried about if this is a bad contract in 7 or 8 years. He wants his WS now.

WT: Miguel Cabrera Say's He'll Move To Third Base

i have a feeling Detriot's pitchers' ERA will be going up with Miggy at 3B. that's a major downgrade in defense from brandon inge. Miggy was averaging -1.0 dWAR back in Marlins. Now after a few years and getting bigger. I think it's going to be closer to -1.5-2.0 dWAR.

fielder replacing miggy at 1B is no gain/loss.

i think they should just rotate Miggy and Prince at 1B/DH this year. going to be interesting following year with VMart back, though he can play a bit C but that's taking at bats from Avila.

I promise that Miggy doesn't get through 40 games at anywhere other than 1B. Somehow I think people have the old image of the 19 year-old and think, sure he'll play over there. He can't be too bad right? Well, first he was that bad anywhere other than 1st and second, he's like 50 pounds heavier than he was as a kid. He's not Prince or anything, but that is a very big man (in a good way if you're looking for power in the heart of your order) and if he's forced to play a challenging defensive position he's going to dog it. It's not even a question.

Also, until they add another player, there's not even a good reason to do it, other than some hypothetical when VMart gets back, as if they'd keep all three anyway. Without another signing or trade for an everyday player, they have to play one of Inge or Santiago right now. One is only mediocre at 3rd and the other pushes Peralta's mediocre 3B back over. Both, as mediocre 3B's, are enormous upgrades over what Miggy would do there.

Best guess is they play around with this in spring training and then say they're going to continue to practice him and get him ready by interleague season, but he'll never end up playing more than 10-15 games there 'cause he'll be brutal.

WT: All other teams say they will begin bunting every at bat.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.
