5 teams eye Kenyon Martin

The Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks are pursuing free-agent forward Kenyon Martin, according to league sources.

Martin has spoken with executives from each of the clubs and is hoping to make his decision next week. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/75111 ... yon-martin

I would be fine with the depth but we need size, and not a 6'9'' power forward, so it continues with the ASG.

atleast he would bring some toughness and rebounding and is a pretty good post defender which is something this team is clearly lacking

He is the best player available unless Wilson Chandler or JR Smith are getting out of contracts also, but I agree he is not ideal.

We need a true C. We need a trade people let's stop beating around the bush, we need a Center that can contribute on a big time level and I am not sure any of the one's on the street can currently do that.

I shake my head in disbelief. Who's the real center we can get? Chris Kaman? Working out a deal with the league's front office, what is Stern going to require? The rights to Al Horford? I don't like our chances. Bigs are dropping like flies across the league. Demand is going to be higher than supply. The standing offer that people mention is Marvin, Zaza, and a pick. That isn't going to get anything. Giving up Josh creates a bigger hole than what's being filled. Al can't be traded until March 1st (odd short season rules) and Kirk has to demonstrate he's back to increase his value. Really the Hawks need to stay afloat until March in order to make a quality trade.

Kenyon Martin is the best option in free agency for inside help. Is he tall enough? No. Is he mean enough and tough enough? Yes. Would signing him improve the team and it's playoff chances? Yes. If he can brought it I would see it as a positive move by the ASG. Not pursuing Martin because he's not perfect would be a sign to me that the ASG is standing pat and doing nothing to improve the teams chances.

Furthermore, signing Martin or not doesn't preclude us continuing to work the phones to make a good trade. Maybe come March 1st we make a move for Dwight Howard without a guarantee of him resigning or possibly a Tyson Chandler if the Knicks are having too much regret or more likely a less expensive C comes available from a team that needs help in backcourt. We just aren't to the point where we can make a deal.

I realize Kenyon Martin is the best option available as long as he seriously considers us. Not having size is an ongoing problem, but I feel obligated to mention it, because there are some big men out there.

CB is recruiting Kenyon Martin. The Clippers could very well be a more appealing situation for Martin.

Kenyon Martin to the Clippers?

Chauncey Billups would like to see that happen.

In fact, the Clippers' veteran guard said Saturday that he has reached out to the free-agent forward, a former teammate of his in Denver, about signing with the Clippers.

What are Martin's thoughts about doing so?

Can't argue with the Clippers as a better destination. They get more national media coverage, can pay as much as Atlanta (MLE), have stars (Paul, Griffin), a former teammate (Billups) and minutes available off the bench. About the only way the Hawks could possibly appeal to him more would be to pitch him on starting at the 5 with Zaza and Jason Collins backing him up and I'm not sure they are willing to do that.

Martin would give the Clippers two enforcers to look after Griffin. They currently have Reggie Evans who is always there when Griffin gives his opponent a cheap shot. I could be wrong and Martin could careless about the role.

It's going to be interesting to see which team he picks.

So, the Hawks throw the minimum at Martin and the Clips gave him the mini mid level $2.5. The Hawks are such a joke. Get the crap beat out of you by a team that has not beat a single winning team on the road then show just how poorly ran you are by offering the best FA currently available the least contract anyone can offer.

What a trashy organization. By the way, I didn't care for the Kenyon possibility but it is the damn principle. :evil:

Joel Przybilla should be the next option for us. We probably have explored it already but I do not believe he liked it here the first time around.

ESPN just said it's between Chicago and Miami for Joel Przybilla.
