BJ Penn wants to return (vs Diaz or Fitch), Hughes too

Post#1 » by cowboyronnie » Sun Jan 29, 2012 7:36 pm

Woah, those are some serious sour grapes.

@nickdiaz209 Look how much bigger you are in this pic..I thought you were gonna scrap from the beginning homie? What was that coward fence holding strategy to tire out the smaller man? Street fighter my ass! I made you fight like glass jaw @jonfitchdotnet poser! I'll be ready for that weak bs next time we fight!

"Pedro Carrasco - and there is a reason why he posted it, He is fired up because now that the holidays are over and a lot of his post-fight distractions are behind him he has nothing to do but think about things and he is not happy with the way he performed in his last several fights.

I am not here to make excuses for him, but I am pretty sure people, at least with some sense of intelligence, can identify that the BJ that fought Edgar, Fitch and Diaz was not the same Penn that fought the Diego's and Florians of the world

Things changed, but as it sits right now, he is back. That killer mentality and fire is back and it's been brewing for a while now and today's tweet is a result of it just boiling over!

Expect more from Penn to come for sure! "

Hughes apparently too, wants one more fight.

During a Saturday night interview on FUEL TV, Hughes said that while his wife wants him to retire, he has the itch to return to the octagon. Hughes (45-9) has lost each of his last two fights by knockout.

"I think Dana could be the final decision maker," he said. "My wife's a great lady, but she's not going to tell me when Matt Hughes retires."

"I'm just hoping I can fight next," he said. "We'll see what happens. I'm not scouting anybody out. I'm just hoping the opportunity is here for me now."

I was actually shocked that BJ was buddy buddy with Diaz after the fight considering that Diaz was cussing out his coaches like 5 minutes earlier.

BJ can go back to LW or else I'm not interested anymore.

BJ needs to stfu and take a fight against a mid tier guy. If he wins, and he probably will, he can take that momentum and psychological boost to fighting some of the guys that have beaten him. BJ's problem is confidence and cardio. If he can take care of atleast one of those problems, he'll be back to title contender status if not winning it outright. Also, he needs to stick to the 155 division. No more adventures in 170 please (except against Fitch and Diaz).

The sick part is, BJ could still be really good at 155. I know most will disagree, but I honestly believe Bendo is going to defeat Edgar.

If that happens, and BJ got a win at LW (say over a guy like Maynard), would anyone be shocked if BJ got a shot and smashed Bendo? I could definitely see it.

At WW though, I could be interested in seeing the original Condit fight. otherwise its just him fighting to be fighting with no goal in mind. He will never be WW champion.

I know so many resort to the "zomg they're cage fighters!!11" bs, but I think its unwarranted and unprofessional to have a fight spill over into the post-fight.

Diaz just hit BJ with like the most punches in ufc history, was it really necessary to go cuss out his coaches after the bout? Brock Lesnar made Mir's face look like it had been ran over with a lawnmower, is it really necessary to still talk **** after that? Etc. I like the Ken Shamrock/Don Frye philosophy here: you just had a war with a guy in the cage for 15 minutes, if you aren't over it at that point, then you have issues.

That's not even taking into consideration the douchiness of an MMA fighter/champion bullying some random coach.

*waits for the two Diaz huggers to come into this thread and tell me that he's a vegan and I don't get it because I'm just a whiteboy*

u soft, white and a racest, first of all.

second, it's a more interesting world when guys have extreme personalities. in boxing, that was Roberto Duran. watch the end of the fight with SRL - 15 rounds in the Montreal Forum without any air conditioning...an absolutely brutal hour long fight. and he's still screaming at Leonard, calling him "puta" and "maricon" and trying to claw through his entourage to continue the fight. ha! so crazy.

I've had it happen to me in the gym, on a smaller scale. guys just refuse to give respect, even after you've shown heart and hung in there with them. it feels lousy. but I'm glad for it. it puts my own self into perspective; I have different needs than them. machismo was not necessary where I grew up - people got along, there was no need to assert your physical toughness or obtain credibility. school, the neighborhood...all easy to navigate. so if I'm into fighting,it's to collect experiences and build character - abstract, suburban goals. not to prove something to myself or others about how I handle confrontation.

it's shocking to your sensibility when someone tells you to '**** off' after hard sparring, they don't want to even tap gloves. but I recognize it's because I'm way less vitally involved in fighting than them. I'm thinking 'wow, that was neat, I sparred with a Mexican roofer, this will give me a new perspective on the working class at the next book club meeting'. he's thinking something totally different. physical confrontation means something totally different.

it's good. worlds would be lost if we forced everyone into perfect, gentlemanly conduct. if everyone were 'sportingly distant' from fighting.

I agree we need those extreme/different/colorful personalities in the sport. I'm a fan of guys like Mir and Koscheck even, just for that very reason.

And I'm not saying I expect guys to show respect or be lovey dovey after fights. In fact, I don't even believe that Diaz should have been punished or anything after it. I just personally think its douchey that a champion MMA fighter is so insecure that he feels the need to confront a freakin' coach. Insecure, and douchey, and I won't root for him. That's all.

I won't miss a fight that he's in. Ever. So the ufc or Diaz don't give a crap, they get my dollar anyway.

the only weight BJ can compete at is 155 because he is too small to compete at welterweight. i never thought BJ was 'done' at 155 but Edgar is just a bad matchup for him. so i agree, 155 or bust.

Im always interested in a Penn fight, but ya, I really can't fathom another 170 fight.
He needs to go to 155 and have some rumbles there. Unfortunately I don't think he can handle the younger, faster guys anymore.

I welcome one last opportunity to see that vile scum Matt Hughes take a shot to the face.

I hope he gets beaten half to death.

BJ, please come back and mess his brow.

Fitch is finally coming off a loss, so they could do that rematch I guess.

However, like others, I'd rather see him at 155, if at all. Nate Diaz immediately came to mind, but now it would only really make sense if he loses to Miller.

I wouldn't mind seeing some of the dream matchups we wanted to see like 3-4 years ago. Wouldn't be the easiest to make though.

I'd still get pretty fired up for Penn vs. Aoki, for example. Hell, even a Penn vs. Gomi rematch wouldn't be terrible.

I agree with others, I don't think BJ is done at 155.

BJ's had several mediocre performances in a row. It's surprising, because he punctuates the build up for the fight by selling the public on a "new" BJ. I just don't think his heart is in it anymore and really, he's bored away from the spotlight which is why he's chirping. He could probably be a contender again at 155, but will his dedication propel him to another title shot? I don't see it.

Hughes has nothing left to offer any top 20 WW, should stick to his trailer.

I agree with this. His heart hasn't been in it for at least, a couple years now. I think he could be a gatekepper at 55 maybe, but I don't think he'd really compete for a title there. And Hughes needs to call it quits, though BJ whipping him would at least give BJ some confidence to go and get beaten down by somebody good once more.
