Big Papi or Big Hurt?

Post#1 » by 2009NBAChamps » Mon Apr 2, 2007 7:06 pm

Who, in their prime, do you think is the more imposing hitter?
i.e. if you were a pitcher who would you not want to face?

Thomas was a heck of a player. If it's just for one season I'll take Ortiz, for a stretch it's hard to argue against Thomas.

Frank Thomas no doubt about it.

1994, Frank Thomas: .353/.487/.729

C'mon now, Ortiz isn't even in that same paragraph.

Alright scratch my first post. I guess I just forgot just how good Thomas was in the 90's. Thanks BG.

Since you said "prime", have to go with Thomas.

Obviously Ortiz is far superior NOW though.

Frank Thomas in his prime was a far superior hitter, it's not really even close.

This clutch thing is going to start to be a real problem.

Its gotta be Thomas. Ortiz is great, but Thomas was on another level.

Papi is the guy of today

Big Hurt is the guy of yesterday.

Overall, I like Big Hurt much more because I am a Yankee Fan.

LMAO, Frank's OPS and homers are similar to Papi's TODAY. In his prime? LMAO, Frank by a mile, the man has one of the highest OPS of all-time, record for straight years w/ .300 avg, 20 homers, 100 runs, 100 rbi's, 100 walks (7 years). Frank is a all-time HOF great, no contest.

Its sad Ortiz is winning this poll.

Frank in 95'- .308/40/111 and 136 walks, 1.061 OPS, 102 runs
Frank in 96'- .349/40/134 and 109 walks, 1.085 OPS, 110 runs
Frank in 97'- .347/35/125 and 109 walks, 1.067 OPS, 110 runs

Ortiz has had an OPS above 1.000 twice, Frank 7 times

Thomas easy. Ortiz has gone over .300 once and that was by one thousandth. In seasons where Ortiz has played more than 100 games he's averaged 33.8 home runs. For Thomas it's 34.3. So Thomas is better in that aspect and he's also better in HR per AB. Thomas is better in nearly every aspect of hitting. Anyone who says Ortiz is nuts IMO.
