Brook Lopez

Post#1 » by KG21Italy » Tue Jan 31, 2012 9:29 pm

First of all I'm sorry for the mistakes that I'll do writing in English :roll

I think that Brook Lopez is the best and more ralistic option that we'll have as Center, since the Nets didn't extend his contract and he will be free agent next offseason. He is a 7 feet guy that can block, rebound and score. What do you think about him??Do you think that for us is better try to get him when he will become free agent this offseason or tray to build a trade for him now??

Lopez is certainly an upgrade over anything we have at center and I'd gladly pay to have him. However, I think we get outbid, because the things he can do (score) would be more valuable on another team, and he's not great at what we need (defend). I think we'll end up spending less on an inferior player, but a better fit.

Welcome to the boards! Lopez is a good guy to discuss.

He's a better scorer than Pek (and probably Love)
His rebounding is on par with Darko (I'd like more, but Love can gobble up the boards)
I'm not sure on his BBIQ
His defense is not as good as Darko, but better than Pek?
His blocking is on par with Darko/Randolph
His athleticism isn't as good as Randolph
His passing ?

I think he is enough of an upgrade to trade Derrick Williams for if we get an extention and a little extra, like a future 2nd rounder or a wing.

He might be an upgrade of what we have, but the cost to obtain him isn't worth it. He's a 7 foot tall SG pretending to be a center.

I don't think he's a good fit here. He's alot like Big Al I think. I don't like the injury history in the Lopez family either. I'd rather sign a guy like Asik who specializes on defense and costs much less.

Agree. Would love to have him, but cost wise not sure if the amount he'd command is worth the $ difference between Pekovic and ______ going forward.

We can see what happens with him in restricted free agency.

He's not as bad as Bargnani. He's more of a post player at least.

An upgrade over what we have isn't saying much. Just waiting for someone to overpay because he's a big guy with potential.

The only way I would have interest in Lopez is via FA. I wouldn't give up players for him. I may be proven wrong in the future but he's not so special that I would give up assets AND pay him. As it sits, we're paying Pek 4.6M a year. I'm feeling more and more comfortable that he can provide 12 and 7 a night if he gets starter minutes. The best part is that they run literally zero plays for him so his production is as efficient as possible. Lopez clearly has a superior offense game, but I'm not sure how substantial the difference is on the defensive end. What's Lopez' ceiling? I think 20 and 10 is possible, but does an extra 8-9M a year and probably our best two or three trade chips merit the change? I can honestly say I pass.

No, this team should push hard for Hibbert long before it goes after Brook.

Hibbert is untouchable. Indiana will pay him the max before letting him go. Plus Hibs loves it here, and especially loves coach Vogel. Roy will be a Pacer for a long, long time.

Lopez doesn't really fit, he's not a defensive guy, and they won't let him go anywhere either... he's not really a free agent either, he's restricted, so they can match.

Lopez's defense is comparable to Al Jefferson's. Don't believe the blocks, the Nets were much better defensively with him on the bench.

I remember watching those preseason games where Lopez looked like a legit C, like a Bynum type. I think he has improved a lot on the glass/defense/controlling the paint. I'd give Dwill/Darko for him/Morrow or something. He'd give us a great offensive weapon that Rubio could get involved.

And that is egg-xactly why he signed an extension, right?

I wouldn't touch that deal... Morrow is a below average player in every way except shooting. If you swap Morrow for Brooks, then I'm in. I'm not a huge fan of Lopez, but getting Lopez and Brooks upgrades our two weakest positions.

Why didn't they extend him?
