I wouldn't touch that deal... Morrow is a below average player in every way except shooting. If you swap Morrow for Brooks, then I'm in. I'm not a huge fan of Lopez, but getting Lopez and Brooks upgrades our two weakest positions.

Morrows an elite shooter, and he was a pretty solid defensive wing last year. He'd get a ton of easy looks off of Rubio...and he's consistent enough where he'd actually make them.

Hibbert is untouchable. Indiana will pay him the max before letting him go. Plus Hibs loves it here, and especially loves coach Vogel. Roy will be a Pacer for a long, long time.

Why didn't they extend him?

Extending him puts a cap hold on the books. If we don't extend him now and wait we can sign another big player as well as extend him, since he's one of our own if we wish. Also there is the possibility that he doesn't get offered the full max in RFA and we can save some money on him/ scare teams from signing him with the threat to match any offer. Worst case he gets offered max and we match, which we were willing to do the whole time if neccesary.

Roy loves it in Indy, is super loyal to the coach, and is a fan favorite and likely to be a 25 year old all-star center this year. He isn't going anywhere under any circumstances. Think of it like Marc Gasol last year.

This is incorrect.

When you have the rights to re-sign him, you have a cap hold on him, precisely to prevent what you are suggesting.

The new CBA has reduced the amount for 1st round picks coming off rookie scale from 150%-300% to 150%-250%, based on performance.

I finally found that new wording:

12. Salary Cap Holds

Salary Cap holds — i.e., amounts that are included in a team's team salary in respect of the team's free agents prior to signing, calculated based upon a multiple of the free agent's prior salary — are as follows:

First-round picks Reduced from 300%/250% (if prior salary is below average salary / above average salary) to 250%/200%

Bird Reduced from 200%/150% to 190%/150%

Early Bird 130% (same as 2005 CBA)

Non-Bird 120% (same as 2005 CBA).

The last year of Hibbert's salary was only $2.6 mil, so his cap hold is $5.2 mil. However, if they chose to extend him, his first year would certainly be more than $5.2 mil, so this saves the Pacers about $7 mil in cap space.

However, as I mentioned before, this is dangerous for a star RFA. If Hibbert gets injured before he inks his new deal this summer, he's outta luck, and out maybe $50 mil.

Are you saying you would rather have Morrow than Brooks? Based on how Brooks was playing before he got hurt, that's crazy.

no, I was just saying that you are selling Morrow short. The Morrow/Lopez for Darko/D-will deal is what I was talking about. I probably wouldn't do it either, because I'm higher on D-will then most around here, but saying Morrow is just a good shooter is selling him short. He's a top 5 shooter in the league, and played good defense last season(not sure about this year, haven't watched the Nets).

Anderson Varejao is the perfect fit with RR, his BBIQ is off the charts, hs energy is contagious, is off ball movement is one of the best in the league(and the best out of bigs) and his defense is good on avg and very good against certain kind of players...

Also is a guy you can get by 10m/per, a great lockerroom guy...the kind of guy we need if the goal is to win rings.
