[RCG]'s Mock Draft 2012

Post#1 » by [RCG] » Fri Jan 20, 2012 4:11 am

1/19
1. Wizards - Anthony Davis, PF/C, Kentucky - not looking good for Blatche, super-athletic front-court to pair w/ Wall.
2. Bobcats - Andre Drummond, C, UConn - Another developmental big, could from nightmarish duo w/ Biyombo.
3. Nets - Jeremy Lamb, SG, UConn - Hard to pick w/ D.Will still in fold, etc. Lots of needs on this team.
4. Pistons - Harrison Barnes, SF, North Carolina - Detroit ranks last in offense, add a scorer.
5. Hornets - Jared Sullinger, PF, Ohio St. - K.Love/D.Lee type for the rebuild. Nice pairing w/ Gordon.
6. Kings - Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky - Great character/glue guy for a team that needs it.
7. Raptors - Perry Jones, SF?PF, Baylor - Haven't seen much of him but Raptors need a SF.
8. Bucks - Thomas Robinson, PF, Kansas - Jon Leuer has been a surprise but value here is great.
9. Suns - Bradley Beal, SG, Florida - Rebuild needs to start somewhere, top player available.
10. Celtics - Meyers Leonard, C, Illinois - Athletic center with good coordination, Celts are desperate for a big.
11. Warriors - John Henson, PF, North Carolina - Warriors get a defensive big w/ good athleticism.
12. Hornets - Terrence Jones, SF, Kentucky - has been marginalized playing with so much talent.
13. Rockets - Tyler Zeller, PF/C, North Carolina - Dalembert is a stop-gap, get Zeller for long-term.
14. Grizzlies - Patric Young, PF/C, Florida - back-up, high-energy big for Randolph/Gasol.
15. Cavaliers - Austin RIvers, SG, Duke - continue w/ the rebuilding, add a nice SG to pair w/ Kyrie.
16. Rockets - Doron Lamb, SG, Kentucky - Replacement for Kev.Martin or he can move to SF.
17. Mavericks - Kendall Marshall, PG, North Carolina - PG-of-future, replacement for Kidd.
18. Trailblazers - Marquis Teague, PG, Kentucky - replacement for Felton.
19. Celtics - Arnett Moultrie, PF, Mississippi St. - KG is showing signs of decline, needs a decent sub.
20. Nuggets - Fab Melo, C, Syracuse - Developmental big to pair w/ Nene
21. Spurs -Myck Kabongo, PG, Texas - Parker is starting to get long in the tooth.
22. Lakers - Mason Plumlee, PF, Duke - Gasol is in his 30s and will need some minutes off.
23. Timberwolves - John Jenkins, SG, Vanderbilt - top shooter in college, Wes can't hit anything/need a SG.
24. Heat - Festus Ezeli,C, Vanderbilt - Heat seems to be okay at PG, look to solidify C.
25. Hawks - Tomas Satoransky, SG, Int'l - JJ is getting old, developmental prospect for future.
26. Pacers - Dion Waters, PG/SG, Syracuse - combo guard, solid back-up for Collison/George.
27. Magic - William Buford, SG, Ohio St. - Another glue guy, push JJ for playing time
28. 76ers - Alex Oriakhi, PF, UConn - 76ers are pretty deep, could use a C but that'd be a bigger reach
29. Bulls - Tony Wroten, PG/SG, Washington - Back-up PG for Rose and possible starting SG.
30. Thunder - Kris Joseph, SF, Syracuse - Deep at every position except potentially SF.

Good job on this. One of the better mocks I've seen.

pretty good but just a few that are weird for me:

Nets: Why Lamb when they just drafted Marshon Brooks who is playing good. Wouldn't Barnes be a better pick so you'd have a Williams/Brooks/Barnes backcourt

Hornets: Why draft Jones when they just drafted Sullinger, maybe just me but I don't think Jones can play SF in the NBA, more of a 6th man SF/PF like Thad Young. With no SF's left I think Kendall Marshall would have to be the pick, him and Gordon would make a great backcourt.

Good feedback. Both make more sense. I haven't seen MarShon Brooks but if Nets are high on him they may pass on Lamb. I just think Lamb will be better than Barnes. I see T.Jones as possessing more potential than Marshall but your reasoning makes sense.

prettay, prettay, prettay good.

one of the better ones i've seen.

just a few comments:
-i think the raptors need someone a little tougher, who could contribute more in the short term.
-i have no problem with the nets taking lamb. both lamb and brooks have the length to play at the 3.
-i think the hornets should be looking at guards, whether it be point or combo with their 2nd pick.
-with irving in the fold, i think the cavs would be better off with a guard other than rivers. the cavs should keep the ball in irving's hands as much as possible. rivers sucks without the ball.
-cory joseph is supposedly parker's successor. adding kabongo as well would be kinda redundant.
-as a bulls fan id hate to see them waste a pick on tony wroten. he doesnt fit the team culture.
hes so dumb on the court and consistently makes bad decisions. he'd never leave the bench.

agree with everyone, looks really solid

I personally think we will see Terrence Jones fall more and Will Barton will get into the 1st, but great mock man

*UPDATE*

1/26
1. Wizards - Anthony Davis, PF/C, Kentucky - not looking good for Blatche, super-athletic front-court to pair w/ Wall.
2. Bobcats - Andre Drummond, C, UConn - Another developmental big, could from nightmarish duo w/ Biyombo.
3. Hornets - Harrison Barnes, SF, North Carolina - A lot of PFs in this draft, Hornets can address that need later. No PG worthy of this spot, Gordon at SG, and they have a couple Cs as is.
4. Pistons - Jared Sullinger, PF, Ohio St. - K.Love/D.Lee type for the rebuild. Could upgrade anywhere besides C. Sullinger/Monroe would provide an excellent young scoring frontcourt. Prince/Gordon have multi-year contracts which dissuades taking a SG or SF.
5. Raptors - Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, SF, Kentucky - Fulfill their hole at SF. Easy pick. Good defensive player matches up well w/ Casey.
6. Nets - Perry Jones, SF/PF, Baylor - Haven't seen much of him but good value pick. Nets could use a young guy at SF/PF.
7. Jazz - Jeremy Lamb, SG, UConn - Best available. No need for a PF/C. Would've liked a top PG or SF to be available but they aren't. Can replace an aging Raja Bell.
8. Kings - Meyers Leonard, C, Illinois - Similar to Jazz, players of value don't fit need very well. Meyers is an athletic Center who can play well next to Cousins at PF.
9. Suns - Bradley Beal, SG, Florida - Rebuild needs to start somewhere, top player available. Morris is looking good at PF apparently, so SG it is!
10. Cavaliers - Quincy Miller, SF, Baylor - Would be Thomas Robinson but they drafted Tristan Thompson last year. Miller has risen fast.
11. Bucks - Thomas Robinson, PF, Kansas - Jon Leuer has been a surprise but value here is great.
12. Hornets - John Henson, PF, North Carolina - Another Tarheel. Good defensive PF.
13. Lakers - Arnett Moultrie, PF, Mississippi St. - Gasol will needs minutes off, fast-riser.
14. Rockets - Terrence Jones, SF/PF, Kentucky - has been marginalized playing with so much talent. Good addition to the Scola/Parsons mix.
15. Rockets - Tyler Zeller, PF/C, North Carolina - Dalembert is a stop-gap, get Zeller for long-term.
16. Celtics - Patric Young, PF/C, Florida - KG is aging fast and they don't really have a Center.
17. Grizzlies - Terrence Ross, SG, Washington - Future replacement for Allen, leverage for Mayo leaving. Also BPA.
18. Trailblazers - Fab Melo, C, Syracuse - Missed out w/ Oden, try for another developmental big.
19. Spurs - Austin RIvers, SG, Duke - BPA. Ginobli is oft-injured and getting old.
20. Mavericks - Kendall Marshall, PG, North Carolina - PG-of-future, replacement for Kidd.
21. Celtics -Doron Lamb, SG, Kentucky - Ray Allen is potentially gone after this year. Even if he stays Boston needs depth.
22. Timberwolves - John Jenkins, SG, Vanderbilt - top shooter in college, Wes can't hit anything & looks better at SF. W/ Rubio they need a SG who can hit open looks.
23. Pacers - Marquis Teague, PG, Kentucky - Collison has been struggling as of late. Pacers have a lot of good talent and Teague has been on a Kentucky team where he has to spread the ball.
24. Nuggets - Tomas Satoransky, PG/SG, Int'l - Nuggets have a talented young roster, can afford to stash high-potential Euro prospects.
25. 76ers - Mason Plumlee, PF, Duke - Quality back-up big.
26. Magic - Festus Ezeli,C, Vanderbilt - insurance pick.
27. Heat - LeBryan Nash, SG/SF, Oklahoma State - solid back-up for Wade/James.
28. Hawks - Dion Waters, PG/SG, Syracuse - combo guard, solid back-up for Teague/JJ.
29. Bulls - Wiiliam Buford, SG, Ohio State - Bulls need a SG, Buford is solid, would be a good role-player.
30. Thunder - Jeffrey Taylor, SF, Vanderbilt - Deep at every position except potentially SF.

I think Kings rather look for Henson or TRob here. Tricky thing with Cousins at PF is he gets murdered by faceup PFs which there are lot nowadays. Kings were able to pull off twin-towers at the second half of last year because Dalembert could take most PFs with his mobility and length. Yes, they were still murdered by PnR but it was decent trade-off since Kings were a much better team on defense and boards. I admittingly only saw one game and highlights but Leonard doesn't strike me as very mobile. Yes, he's springy but not particularly agile or quick.

1 Charlotte Anthony Davis 6-10 220 PF Kentucky Fr. - no-brainer
2 New Orleans Harrison Barnes 6-8 223 SF North Carolina So. - upgrade on wings. good scoring duo w/ Gordon. Drummond hasn't produced and they have Okafor.
3 Washington Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 6-6 216 SF Kentucky Fr. - Need a solid-wing, smart player. have enough talented players who aren't bright.
4 New Jersey Andre Drummond 6-11 270 PF/C UConn Fr. - take gamble on big-time potential.
5 Toronto Jeremy Lamb 6-5 185 SG UConn So. - DeRozan/Lamb on wings w/ Bargnani/Valanciunias front-court and Calderon is a solid team.
6 Detroit Thomas Robinson 6-8 240 PF Kansas Jr. - high energy, muscled PF to go with Monroe.
7 Sacramento Jared Sullinger 6-10 281 PF Ohio State So. - killer rebounding and offensive frount-court.
8 Phoenix Arnett Moultrie 6-10 230 PF Mississippi St. Jr. - athletic big to pair w/ Gortat.
9 Cleveland Bradley Beal 6-4 207 SG Florida Fr. - need a SG, get one of the top who should play well next to Irving.
10 Milwaukee Meyers Leonard 7-0 245 C Illinois So. - Bogut can't seem to stay healthy. Leonard has similar athletic ability and potential, so it is an ideal learning situation.
11 Utah Terrence Ross 6-6 197 SG Washington So. - Utah has enough bigs, addresses wing situation here.
12 New Orleans Perry Jones 6-11 235 SF/PF Baylor So. - Gordon/Barnes/Jones can be a solid building block with a defensive-minded Okafor and average play at PG.
13 Utah Kendall Marshall 6-4 197 PG North Carolina So. - could use a PG who can distribute ball better than Harris.
14 Portland Tyler Zeller 6-11 240 PF/C North Carolina Sr. - need a back-up big behind LMA and someone who can play C w/out getting injured.
15 Houston John Henson 6-10 220 PF North Carolina Jr. - defensive big on a team kind of lacking in that department. (Dalembert is on a short contract).
16 Memphis Doron Lamb 6-4 200 SG Kentucky So. - Mayo may be gone soon and Allen is old.
17 Boston Austin Rivers 6-4 203 SG Duke Fr. - Ideal fit. Allen is expiring/old, his dad is the coach.
18 Houston Fab Melo 7-0 255 C Syracuse So. - Dalembert is a short-term solution. Melo can learn the game for another year or two behind him.
19 Denver Terrence Jones 6-9 244 SF/PF Kentucky So. - Denver is a unique team full of good but not great player, add another one of those type who has position-flexibility.
20 Indiana Marquis Teague 6-2 189 PG Kentucky Fr. - Collison isn't exactly lighting it up. Teague should be used to playing on a team full of talent, which Indiana is.
21 LA Lakers Kris Joseph 6-7 217 SF Syracuse Sr. - Barnes & World Peace. Enough said.
22 LA Lakers Damian Lillard 6-2 190 PG Weber St. Jr. Fisher & Blake. Enough said.
23 Atlanta Dion Waiters 6-4 215 PG/SG Syracuse So. - Could use a decent combo guard as the PG play is average and JJ is in his 30s.
24 Orlando Patric Young 6-8 245 PF Florida So. - Howard may be gone. Young can play some C and also provide an interior 4, whereas Anderson is a stretch-4, mini K-Love.
25 Boston Festus Ezeli 6-11 255 C Vanderbilt Sr. - Boston desperately needs a big.
26 Philadelphia Jeffery Taylor 6-7 226 SF Vanderbilt Sr. - Philly is set with guards, Brand, Hawes, they may want to solidify SF behind Iguodala.
27 San Antonio Tony Wroten 6-5 204 PG/SG Washington Fr - Parker & Ginobli are ancient, Wroten is talented and can learn to play on a team under Popovich.
28 Oklahoma City John Jenkins 6-4 205 SG Vanderbilt Jr. - Floor-spacer for Durant/Westbrook.
29 Miami Evan Fournier 6-7 SF 6-7 206 SG/SF International - future back-up for Wade/James.
30 Chicago Tomas Satoransky 6-6 190 PG/SG International - top international talent, stash for a year or two. He fills a need as a combo guard who can back-up Rose, be an additional ball-handler.
