Please explain

Post#1 » by darbstar » Sat Feb 4, 2012 3:27 am

I dont get to see the wolves games so can someone please explain why :

1. Beasley had 10 pts, 4 boards, 2 assists in the first half but was barely on the floor in the 2nd half?
2. Why does Wes continue to start and play big minutes?
3. Why Randolph hardly ever plays but when he does he is very efficient. yet tolliver, gets soo many more minutes and shoots fg% in the 30% range
4. Why Webster is playing well but is also not getting many minutes?

To me we play Wes, Ridnour, Tolliver, Ellington tooo many minutes and Webster, Beasley, Randolph and D.Williams are not playing enough, if at all

What is going on, coach please get the minutes right otherwise make some trades

Anyway dont want to be too negative seen as we just won but its frustrating!

Please reply in the game topic instead of creating a whole new thread.

I don't know if you are new to this thread, but most of these answers can be found elsewhere. Here's the liner notes:

The main answer for most of these questions is that Adelman can't play everybody. Only 5 guys at a time.
1. Beasley is coming off an injury. He's easing his way into it. The coach rides the hot hand, and Wes came out gangbusters in the second half.
2. Wes plays good defense and team ball. Here's the important part people need to realize though: Just because a guys shot isn't falling it doesn't mean he isn't useful on the court.
3.Randolph is softer than a marshmallow. He get's pushed around by many opposing bigs, meaning he only plays in the right matchup. I like the C rotation of Darko, Pek, and Love more anyway. If Derrick Williams is playing PF, there aren't any minutes for Randolph as he is incapable of playing against most big centers. Tolly is the Coachs glue guy, and has not been playing as many minutes of late, and plays most minutes at SF....so I don't really know how this relates to Randolph, who plays the 4 mostly.
4. Webster is also coming back from an injury, and has not been shooting very well either (although he is shooting a bit better than Wes). He also probably hasn't gelled as much in the chemistry dept. yet.

and finally, as long as we won (like you alluded to) I don't really care if the superstar exciting players don't play. If that's what you want to see, I'm sure ESPN has a team playing that's right up your alley.

What i am interested in is winning more games by giving more minutes to the guys that should be getting them and not the players who shouldnt! Maybe we could have a better record than what we do if we played our better players more than our lesser players! Pretty simple really!!!

1 It's way too soon to tell how Beasley's minutes will be distributed. He's coming back from injury and just recently started coming off from the bench.

2 Johnson is arguably our best wing defender. After Johnson, we can choose Ridnour, Barea, Ellington, and Webster (in no particular order). Plus, he was the 2010 #4 pick, so they might have some hope that he can fix his overall game, but the lack of an off season certainly didn't help matters.

3 Pretty much what breakdown said. As you [darb] already noted, Tolliver's shots aren't falling. I want to say that he has been a pretty solid shooter in the past, so it might not be wise to give up on him so soon.

4 They probably don't want to rush Webster back so soon after injury. They brought back Barea too fast which probably what caused him to miss more games.

I think everyone would agree with that. The problem(s) is Randolph isn't any better at basketball than Tolliver, Webster is coming off two back surgeries and is very rusty, Beasley missed 11 games with a foot injury, and Williams is looking very much like a lost rookie so far. If Adelman had some legitimately better options, I'm confident he would play them. I think there will be some changes in this offseason.

i don't like how everyone thinks wes is a good defender just because that's what his reputation was coming into the league. he has played absolutely terrible defense this year

1. Rick Adelman
2. Rick Adelman
3. Rick Adelman
4. Now this is a tough one, but I'm going to have to guess ... Rick Adelman.

Rick Adelman is a great, probably HOF, coach, and he's a big part of the Wolves' huge improvements this year compared to last year, but he's made a lot of strange (to put it nicely) coaching decisions from a fan perspective.

Another question: Why does Adelman continue to play Ridnour and Barea next to Rubio when the ball should be in Rubio's hands 90% of the time and Webster and Beasley are good enough ball handlers to keep the defense from constantly trapping Ricky? :dontknow:

Your liner notes are better than mine, but I disagree with your take on Beas. I just think Beas is still shaking the cobwebs off and that Adelman went with who was playing well

This is a good question. I get very annoyed when I see Ridnour take the ball up and Rubio is out there with him. I bet it gives Rubio nightmares of playing for Barcelona. I just think its Adelman's style to have two solid ball handlers out there, and since our wings aren't great ball handlers, he rolls with two PGs. If I'd have known this in the offseason, I would've pushed harder for Jamal Crawford.

Ellington plays too much? Psh. He hardly plays. I don't understand Adelman's rotations right now.

On Beasley, he was struggling defensively in the second half, and that was when he was guarding Shawne Williams.

Ellington has averaged about 18 mins per game, thats about 18 mins too much! (so dont say he has barely played)

Most of you have you have given the same reasons for the lack of minutes for BEAS, RANDOLPH, WEBSTER that they lack something, you are all missing the point. The point is that they are still much better than Ellington, Tolliver, Milic, Wes. If you were comparing them to Lebron, Bosh and Wade then your answers would make sense!

So, the only players those three are second too are Lebron, Bosh and Wade? Wow, would never guessed they are that good :)

Who plays better D than him?
And he is decent in the offense.
18-20 min. is OK for me.

Ellington has hit some absolutely clutch shots in the 4th qtr of some our biggest wins. He has a future in this league. I would be just fine if he kept getting minutes.

Ellington is fine as a backup SG, nothing more. His stats are worse than Luke The Pariah. I'm fine with keeping him (or trading him) but the team absolutely has to get an NBA-quality starting SG first and foremost. Ellington is the only SG on this team. Webster and Johnson are both SFs and Webster is not at 100% form yet anyway.

Everyone is b****ing about Adeleman's use of Ridnour at SG. Well the cold hard truth is that he doesn't have an option. Ellington is worse, the Johnson at SG experiment failed miserably, Barea is like 4 feet tall, and Webster isn't right yet.
