Re: Geoff Petrie, your thoughts and opinions
The team has lost 73% of its games since the start of the 2008-09 season. I know the cheap Maloofs are part of the problem, but Petrie has to take some of the blame. This season we will be lucky to not be dead last. Thank god for the Hornets.

Re: Geoff Petrie, your thoughts and opinions
The Kings got screwed in lottery season after season, it's one of the main reasons they haven't been able to turn around.
Petrie has a tendency of signing average players to long term contracts (Cisco, Beno), trading desperate contracts for more desperate ones (Noc, Fish), but he's careful not to cripple the franchise.
There is a large room for improvement, which we mostly know about only in retrospect, and I'm not buying the Maloof argument, redundant money was and is still spent by Petrie, but it can be much much worse with other GMs.

In 2007 & 2008 we weren't in a position to really be helped by the lottery...so I wouldn't say we got "screwed."
In 2009 yes. We had a shot at Blake Griffin, but luck wasn't on our side. However, the two players that could be the 2nd and 3rd best (at least 2 top 5 players of that draft) we had a shot at. Tyreke Evans and Ricky Rubio. If we messed up on drafting Tyreke over Rubio, then that's on us.
In 2010, I wouldn't really say we got screwed over. We didn't get any help, but even if we had the 3rd or 4th pick, we would still have been looking at DeMarcus Cousins or Greg Monroe.
In 2011, everything fell into our lap with Knight, Walker, and Fredette all being available at the 7th pick. However, we decided to go with Jimmer.
I do agree, that I do not buy the Maloof argument completely either. I think we can all agree that the Maloofs have pushed/directed the franchise into some bad moves, but we can't use the Maloofs as an escape goat for everything. (And even so, they are the least likely to be replaced).
Again, at what point do we start saying Petrie IS the problem. One more year of this terribleness? Two more years? Five more years? At some point, if our team continues to perform and stay at the level we have been the past 5 years or so, the problem becomes Petrie. When is that point. And how long are you willing to wait?

You raise many points and ideas that I was hoping to delve into about Geoff. Personally I blame the Maloofs primarily, but our GM has made many questionable calls over the last few seasons. I do fear getting a GM that will under perform if we replaced Geoff, but Geoff has been playing it too safe for me.
I am not sure how long we need to wait but, I am tired of sitting on the bottom with a lot of kids.
1 more season for me I think, if nothing changes then I say let's move on. At some point we have to take a gamble.

For me personally, I would give Petrie the rest of this trading period/season to make the required moves to position this team better. If not, I start to look for GM's with proven successes (guys like Pritchard).
If we can't get a Pritchard or any other legitimate GM's, I give Petrie another season 2012-2013 to turn things around. If by the summer of 2013 and we are still a disaster, I start to look for any GM to replace him.

It's impossible to get players to Sacramento as FAs, we are in a similar situation to Detroit, Joe Dumars was once considered a genius and now the team is in a mess, a shorter mess than ours.
The Addleman experience taught me to appreciate what we have, there are a lot of question marks in Petrie's trades, the trades wasted money and brought bad players, but the team was able to sign a max FA and didn't, and you need a top notch player to turn this around, this won't come from free agency, and I don't see how Petrie could've drafted better.
When do we say it's time for Petrie to go? One more top lottery pick and we still suck, it's time to part ways, I don't even think Petrie would want to stay.

I disagree with the part about drafting better.
But I do agree. Petrie has 1-2 seasons to turn this around or it's time to at least attempt something new. So if say King's have a top 5-7 lottery pick in the 2012 draft and again another top 5-7 pick in the 2013 draft...you would say then it's time?

I wouldn't say the Kings got screwed in the lottery at all. They got super lucky with Cousins, he'll be the best talent to come out of that draft. Thank goodness he's a "headcase".

I would have been really interested to see what direction that Bonzi/Artest team would have turned. I can't remember what we were all saying around here at the time, but I know that team would have some changes, major changes, that following summer. Shipping Miller, Bibby, and a few others out and bringing in a guy like Dalembert back then and going for a balls out in your face defensive team would have been my suggestion.
Exactly, and we failed miserably!
Never even came close to establishing and following up on the defensive energy and establishment which was there in 2006. Relied a lot on that within the team, still playing undersized and not that long up front, but still made an impact as the team showed when Ron came in.
That would of been a great way to keep the team solid and competitive and the fans intrigued until things ran out of steam after a couple years... I was very disappointed we never got Artest in the best part of his career a tough defense behind him to consistently be a factor like in Indiana. Whereas his impact couldn't show up on a game to game basis because the frontline behind him was soft as a whole and undersized as hell. Every year he was here.
What a waste of what could of been some fun years.
