Nets looking to move Jordan Farmar and Anthony Morrow for expiring contracts

The New Jersey Nets are going nowhere fast, and while there are still lots of games to be played there is a sense that New Jersey is ready to start planning for the offseason.

The Nets have $34 million in salary commitments for next season which includes the final $4 million year on Anthony Morrow and the final $4.25 million Player Option owed to Jordan Farmar.

Both players at one point have been offered to Memphis in exchange for OJ Mayo’s ending contract, and league sources say there is a desire on New Jersey’s part to cash those guys in for ending deals before the trade deadline.

Randy Foye for Anthony Morrow? He adds a little size to the backcourt at 6'5 (we need all the size that we can get). He's a career 40% shooter from beyond the arc. He can slide into the starting SG role next season if Billups is not retained or if another replacement is not acquired.

That would be just too good of a trade, solving two problems at the same time. I still remember when he could've signed with us, but went with the Nets instead. I was pretty pissed.

Pull this off and sign KMart and call it a day :)

Oden To Undergo Procedure On Right Knee
Feb 03, 2012 2:32 PM EST

Greg Oden will undergo a procedure to "remove debris" from his right knee.

Oden hasn't appeared in a game with the Blazers for over two years.

Last season, he had microfracture surgery on his left knee. It was expected that he might be able to play for the Blazers this season, but a checkup before the start of training camp in December revealed he had suffered a setback in his rehabilitation.

I feel like all the money he's made has gone to pay off his surgeries =X

Being a former Sonics fan...

A wealthy San Francisco hedge-fund manager and officials in the Seattle mayor's office have been working behind the scenes for eight months to bring an NBA team back to the city as early as next fall and build a new arena, according to emails and documents that reveal a far more concerted effort than previously known.

A Dec. 13 agenda for a meeting between the parties shows they were talking about details such as a "Review of Basic Deal Structure," "Financing Issues," including "City Debt Capacity," and "Security for Public Financing."

In an initial email laying out his vision, Hansen told city officials an arena could be built with minimal impact on taxpayers.

"Thanks for spending the time today guys," Hansen wrote in a June 16 email to Julie McCoy, chief of staff to Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, and Ethan Raup, the mayor's director of policy and operations.

"I really appreciate it and look forward to making this happen in Seattle," wrote Hansen, a multimillionaire who built a fortune in the private investment world. "I genuinely mean that and am confident that with a little effort and creativity we can find a solution that meets our needs and the City's /State's desire to get a team back to Seattle without a large public outlay."

Hansen offered to provide information on "recent municipal arena deals that have been put together and some of the direct and indirect contributions that the city can make that don't require incremental taxes or direct public funding."

Those issues were on the table at the key Dec. 13 meeting, which was attended by McCoy and Raup and set up by Carl Hirsh, a New Jersey arena consultant hired by the city in July.

Seattle sports-arena talks well under way, documents show

Almost since the day Seattle was robbed of its NBA team, a group of well-intentioned, well-heeled, basketball-savvy hoopaholics quietly has been working with both local government and league officials, attempting to get an arena built and a team returned to this city.

Now, four seasons after the Sonics left Seattle and became the Oklahoma City Thunder, the possibility of the NBA returning feels more real than ever.

What if the group that includes former Sonics president Wally Walker can accumulate enough property south of Safeco Field and gain a few concessions from the Seattle City Council (an increase in the hotel-motel tax, a surcharge on tickets) to build an arena that will be predominantly privately funded?

Rapid recent progress has been made. Mayor Mike McGinn has been among those championing the idea.

And once the plans for construction of a new arena near Safeco Field are finalized, I believe the NBA will return to Seattle. The financially strapped Sacramento Kings could become the Seattle Sonics as early as the 2012-2013 season.

This is more than mere wishful thinking. And it could turn out to be more than the NBA.

What if the NHL, which owns the Phoenix Coyotes and desperately wants to sell them and move them and is very interested in Seattle, finds a home for the Coyotes here?

Progress being made to acquire NBA, NHL teams

I don't like the Kings being mentioned(they have a pretty solid history in Sacramento), but it looks like there's finally some movement in Seattle and that the Sonics 2.0 might be a real possibility and maybe even pretty soon.

I hope that things work out for Sonics and the Kings.

The Kings have moved around quite a bit, but they've been in Sacramento for the last 27 years. I really don't want them to move to Anaheim, and I would prefer to see them keep the King/Royal name than to be changed.

I would love for the Sonics to be able to get a team and to get a new arena squared away. In a perfect world, they could get the New Orleans Hornets and Charlotte gets the Hornets name back. I know that is a long shot to happen, but one can hope.

It's so unfortunate and frustrating. I know that getting his knees scoped isn't the end of the world, but the man hasn't been on an NBA court in over 3 years. He's going to be an unrestricted free-agent this summer and I'm hoping that he'll be able to play. It sounds terrible, but I think he needs a change of scenery and Portland needs to be done with the headache once for all. I'm still skeptical about what they're doing up there. All the knee injuries that they have had over the years is just insane. I'm pretty sure that they have had more microfracture cases than anyone.

Kevin Love suspended for 2 games, stepped on Scola's face. Imagine the heat Blake would of gotten for it.

He would be called a fake tough guy and a flopper. Also, both LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love and a host of other power forwards would have been better at stepping on Scola's face than Blake.

In all seriousness, it was uncharacteristic of Love imo. I'm very well aware of the last meeting between the two teams, but Love has to use better judgment than he did. The Wolves are fighting for a playoff spot and cannot afford to lose Love for a few games due to foolish nonsense. Plus, he's messing with my fantasy team. I hope it doesn't come back to haunt the Wolves.

With the recent injury to Chauncey Billups on the Clippers it will be interesting to see how the team moves forward. The Clippers just added K-Mart and are considering adding JR Smith once his season is finished in China. The true colors will show in the Clippers as they rebound from this loss and continue through the season.

OKC losing tonight against the Kings really makes that Cavs loss sting a lot less.

Thunder totally blew that game. All they did was shoot jumpers or turn the ball over.

Lakers got Linned, now what would make this a perfect night is if the Thunder lose as well.

That game by Lin last night was crazy. I had no idea he would play this well. I hope that we don't play the Knicks for awhile.

I'm very happy to see Lin do what he was doing. He was a player that I had hoped we would give a look at when he came out, either as a 2nd rounder or as an undrafted free-agent. Just seeing how he has bounced around this past offseason, I was glad that the Knicks picked him up. It was looking like he was going to be cut again, but is now thriving in a situation where D'Antoni had little choice but to play him.

Is it a fluke? Is he overhyped? Can he keep it up? Those questions will be answered soon enough, but he's led them to 4 straight wins without star players after they struggled with those star players. I hope that he can continue to play well (although, I'm not expecting 20 ppg) when Anthony and Stoudemire come back. I hope that he can be a part of them turning things around and getting back on track. He's humble and has a great head on his shoulders. I'm going to keep rooting for the guy and hope he continues to beat the odds.

Lin is still undefeated! Great to see Lin beat Rubio. Rubio fans are almost as annoying as Derrick Rose fans.

There's no way that he can continue the offensive production that he showed the first 4 games, but I think he has shown that he can be a floor leader PG in the NBA. The thing that's been amazing during this run is that he has simultaneously carried the team on his back offensively, while at the same time directing the floor and making his teammates better. The first part is just not sustainable, but the second part is, especially after Amare and Melo come back. What really helps is that he runs the pick and roll very well, which is what Amare and D'Antoni made their bread and butter with in Phoenix.

Hornets tanking. He will probably miss most if not all of the season with "knee bruise". Then be declared to have a clean bill of health next season :)
