Markieff Morris
This guy showed fantastic potential at the beginning of the season, but now he has turned into an average NBA rookie. All he can do is shoot open 3's and fadeaways from mid range with his back to the basket. I know a lot of people are hanging onto Keef, but I think his ceiling is Josh Smith or Lamar Odom, and I highly doubt he reaches that ceiling. I wouldn't be surprised if he falls very short. I would want to try to involve him in a trade that gets us a very high draft pick, while his value is still pretty high.
It seems like at the beginning of the season when he was doing well, all of his points came from open 3's, and now that teams are aware that he likes to shoot he isn't getting those open 3's, making him almost useless for us. I haven't seen him do anything to convince me he will be anything special. Doesn't create his own shot and he NEVER goes to the rim

Re: Markieff Morris
Its not his fault that Alvin Gentry makes him camp out at the 3pt line.
He actually had a respectable post game at Kansas but since coming to PHX Gentry has tried to convert him to a Frye type player.

Re: Markieff Morris
Josh Smith or Lamar Odom as his ceiling?
Markieff doesn't even play like them (as in he's not a SF but an all out PF). At best he'll be our way less intense/physical Bill Laimbeer (as in good defender, can rebound, shoots 3's, great energy guy off the bench but can fare well as a starter). It's not a high potential but I think he can reach that, especially considering he's a late lottery pick.

His value right now is higher than it ever will be. Trade him. I agree that Gentry is terrible for him. I think they should both go

We aren't trading Morris after only playing 23 games on a dysfuntional team. smh

Morris will be fine soon as gentry is gone.
You know you have a coaching problem when your coach thinks telfair is your answer at the pg.

Bill Laimbeer? Really?
His ceiling is Rasheed Wallace (w/o knuckles). Tough, can defend, has smart post moves and can shoot 3`s.

Keef is Rasheed Wallace lite. He's never going to be a 20 point scorer, and he's never going to average 9 rebounds or 3 assists a game. His ceiling is a 15-17ppg, 6-8 REB, guy who adds toughness and outside shooting. If he gets stronger and gets more experience then he could be a good defensive player as well, Right now he's getting manhandled and outsmarted on the defensive end.
and I don't see any of these smart post moves that people are seeing. I've seen a few floaters from the lane, and power moves to the net, but it's nothing to get excited about.

Re: Markieff Morris
He's been in the NBA for 1 month at least give the kid some time to develop. Jesus. He's never going to be a max contract player if thats what you mean but 90% of the players in the NBA dont get anywhere near that level. If you give him a year or 2 to develop he's going to be a tough rebounder/defender and average scorer. He's already a good outside shooter which means he should be a good FT shooter as well for me his biggest hole in his game is his ability to score inside and finish. Once he learns a couple of moves and gets more comfortable with them he is going to be a solid all around player.

Dear God. Gimme a brain and take this brick back...
Morris is about 23 games in the NBA. Started very very motivated, now is down. It's normal. It's a rookie. New situation (without a TWIN!! for a first time in life!!), new people, big money, etc. Have you seen all this gold and pics with money on tweeter? It's a big KID. A child. Let him grow up. He'll be fine. He can ball.
P.S. I forgot - he plays for the worst head coach in the NBA...

Morris is learning from a not so good coaching staff who wants him to be a 6'9 version of Channing Frye.
Need to develop him as a Kenyon Martin / Rasheed Wallace PF.

Re: Markieff Morris
Kieff looks really short for a PF. I know he's listed at 6'10 but he seriously looks 6'7-6'8 max. I'd be very happy with Kieff being a Sheed lite. He's been respectable on the court however but then again I expected really next to nothing from him. I could see him as an offensive and less athletic Lou. A little undersized and tough as nails.

Agree with Ryu, he seems like a Sheed type as a 'peak', but I doubt he is half the defender Sheed was
Odom?
Smith?

Re: Markieff Morris
Also don't forget he had a bad flu bug in his first NBA start and was still sick the next game. Like I said he is going to be a nice solid piece; not a star but a great team/role player.
In my opinion his biggest weakness is his ability to finish in traffic and his low post moves; basically hes the exact opposit of Amare when he entered the league. Amare was a below average defender/rebounder who could dunk on anybody and finish very well but had no outside shot. Within a couple years Amare developed a very reliable midrange/free throw shot but remained an average rebounder/defender. If Morris gets more comfortable with his post scoring and finishing inside hes going to be a very nice player for us. Right now when he gets the ball down low it looks like he's rushing it and pressing too hard. Once he gets some experience under his belt that should change and he will learn the tricks of the defensive trade as well. The thing i'm excited about is he is already a good shooter and tough rebounder. Worst case scenario in 2 years if he hasnt improved we can still use him as a backup or trade him and being a mid 1st round pick its not like getting a lottery bust.
And the Suns have always been a weak rebounding and defensive team so it could be the beginning of something positive.

Bill Laimbeer as in playing style, not impact. Rasheed is probably a better comparison.

Keef measure at 6'7.25 and 6'9.25, with and without shoes at the combine. Much like porn, nba teams generally add an inch or two to the "official" measurements
