Hype and expectations aside, at least now our starting PG is an actual PG.

That in itself is a step forward. Good luck, J-Lin.

Mr. Lin has always been disregarded because he's Asian. He's the penultimate underdog---and that is exactly what we need here.
Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?

Don't get me wrong I actually like Lin quite a bit. I think he can be a good backup. I was one of the few back a few months who liked the idea of bringing him in. But some of you are just too much man...

Lin does not play like a shooter, but Nash does. Nash is ready to shoot the ball off-balance just like Dirk or Larry Bird, but Lin wouldn't try too much off-balance shooting.

However Lin might have Nash's court sense and Vision(still improving), and he plays better defence and rebound well like Jason kidd.

I still would like to compare Lin to ex-Sun PG Kevin Johnson. Because he goes into paint as often as Kevin Johnson. you will see him attack the rim all the time. that's why he call himself an attacking point guard. He does need to have a much more consistent pull-up jumper like KJ did to make him unstoppable tho.

+1 Lin has aspects of all three of those guys. He can also be a defensive pest like Gary Payton. Common theme? All are California PGs or played college ball in Cali.

The thing that brought a tear to my eye was the way he found guys at the hoop. All the time the pickers would be rolling to the hoop wide open and Douglas could never deliver a pass to them but Shump would occasionally find them. With Lin there would be 2-3 guys in between him and the picker with another coming to help and he still would get the ball to the man in the place only they could get it. So very Nash-like!

Obviously Nash is an incredible shooter and one of the best PGs ever but it's hard to not see the dribbling, passing and vision that Lin has that can remind of Nash. How cool would it be if Nash comes for the MLE next season to tutor the guy so after he retires Lin can take over. Lin will have his up and downs this season even if he impresses at times, he still could use another season or two to polish his game even more and who better to learn from than Nash.

+1 On top of it all, both Nash and Lin are great people (I look at them and say those are guys I'd want to hang out with), very humble, always talk team first, play for the WIN not for stats, smart, never talk trash, loyal, always play hard, were always underrated for their appearance, and both from the Bay Area in Cali.

I'd add that Lin, though his shot is improving, will probably never become the shooter that Nash is because Nash is arguably the best shooter in the history of basketball (I'm not kidding, you look at his FG% and the kinds of shots he takes and makes), but Lin makes up for that by being much better defensively and on the boards, and with better size and athleticism. Anyway, don't need to compare too much more, but would love them both here and for the long term.

Yeah, I can't see Lin ever being the shooter Nash is. He won't ever have the career Nash had, probably not even half of it, or even a quarter of it. Lin has better hops than Nash and is much better defensively so I guess after his dribble, passing and vision the comparison to Nash ends.

Although on a team sporting finishers like Melo, Amar'e, Tyson and even Shump and Fields all Lin has to do is control the flow of the offense and deliver the ball to his guys. Not try to do too much but defend with energy and just play smart. I can see him doing that well enough to be a quiet but solid PG.

Can he continue to play well as a starter through the season and as the competition gets tougher, the games get tighter and the intensity rises only time will tell.

Be honest though fellas, it is pretty cool to have an Asian PG. No offense to all my jigaboos and crackas but I like the diversity. Ultimately all that matters is who plays the best on the court, but if that guy is a gook its like watching a rare bird soar.

The NBA really is getting more global little by little. Its nice.

Just sayin what everyone else is feelin. The fact that Lin is Asian makes this bigger.

Substitute Ish Smith for Lin and he would be getting half the pub. Truth.

But I like it. Never would have thought this would happen lol.

If Lin stays healthy, I like his chances. Remember that he did all of these crazy things without ever playing much if at all with the first unit, and always with the odds stacked against him. I see his ceiling as higher than solid PG (which is already great by the way), but I understand if others who haven't seen him much disagree, we will see. To me, solid to solid+ PG is guys like (I'm going to reach all over the spectrum of styles and years here): Nate McMillan, Tinsley, Delonte West, Dragic, Hornacek, Sleepy Floyd, Danny Ainge, Kenny Anderson, Doc Rivers...) some of those made All Star teams, by the way.

Per NYPost:
The well-known New York City Borrough formally known as Brooklyn will officially be changed to BrookLin in honor of New York Knicks star point guard Jeremy Lin. Officials say the paperwork has been submitted and it should take about a week for everything to be offical.

I think some are going waaay overboard with the comparisons. I like what I saw. But let's slow down. It was one game. It was against the Nets. We've also been PG-starved all season, so seeing him run the PnR made us prematurely wet our pants.

I'm not saying he can't be a future building block for us (we'd also have to resign him somehow, especially if his production explodes the way Sessions did once he got playing time on the Bucks), but let's see how he does against better defenses, and when he's gameplanned for. I also haven't seen him go left much, if at all, so combined with his lack of shooting, once opposing teams know how to deal with him, he can be limited.

If anything though, I think he'd be a quality backup point for this team, and for his NBA career. Whether he can be more will depend on how consistent he is from here on out.

these nash/kidd/rondo comparisons need to stop rofl he had one really good game and people are looking to put him into the HOF.... im glad hes starting, this is the first time this season the knicks have started a real PG and i think he will do fine but come on lets not get crazy, people love to get their hopes so unrealistically high with this team it has no way to end other then heartbreak

with baron looking even less likely of coming back any time soon we need to make a move to bring in another PG, lin will make a fine back but i have zero hope of making the playoffs with him alone and WORST case we end up with 3 PGs (baron wasn't going to come back next year anyway)

Nash comparisons are racist. Lin reminds me of Magic.

Sessions is another good comparison actually. Undrafted too.

At this point I can care less about getting ahead of myself or not. Lin hath been crowned. As long as nobody takes this junk 2 serious go crazy w/ the Asian Equation.

I like that. The Asian Equation. Cuz he went to Harvard n sh*t. Get it???

For ONCE can we STOP living up to the stereotype of Knick fans??? We all liked what we saw from this kid, but do we have to do this to everyone who has ONE good game? Have one good game in NY and all of a sudden knick fans make it sound like you're gonna be a future hall of famer while we still have a losing record. I've heard names such as Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd etc. Come on guys are you serious? That's why other fans laugh at you guys because you're delusional. DELUSIONAL! I'd be extremely happy if Lin averages 15 and 10 much less 12 and 8. In one night Jeremy Lin has not only overtaken the sig world, but every thread since then has been about him...just titled differently. I'm pulling for him, but Seriously? Stop! Doesn't look good at all.

Lin reminds me of Andre Miller and he brings some of the same things that Ramon sessions does as well.

He has filled that stat sheet everywhere he has played, I am excited to see him get big minutes
