Upcoming Potential Waived Players

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Sun Feb 5, 2012 3:31 pm

Next Friday is the date when non-guaranteed contracts become guaranteed for the rest of the season, meaning that teams looking to release players to save some salary must do so by Tuesday at 6 p.m. to ensure that the player in question clears waivers.

It's a deadline that, entering the weekend, was looming for a whopping 48 players after Milwaukee's release of Darlington Hobson, which equates to more than 10 percent of the workforce in a league with nearly 440 players. If they're still on their current rosters when Tuesday night's six-game slate tops off, their contract dollars are locked in for the rest of the season.

The 48 players in question are:

At first, I was surprised about the bad contract DeJuan Blair has. Then I remembered about his knee issues and the fact that he's a 2nd round pick.

Little Miss Piggy is here to stay.

Just so you can update your list, DeMarre Carroll is a free agent already. Denver released him a day or two ago.

I don't think many will be cut. Maybe one of the veterans like Tinsley but there are a lot of solid filler guys on that list that teams won't let go mid-season just to bring someone else in to do the same thing.

I don't see Detroit or New York letting anyone leave. I think the same is true for Cleveland. Alonzo Gee is averaging 27 minutes a game. Cory Higgins is probably safe, but if he wasn't that would certainly make for an interesting visit home some time down the road.

Mychel Thompson and Earl Barron gone. Nothing of interest for us.

We should waive Higgins and give Barron a shot.

Waive a SG to sign a Center. And no to Earl Barron. Hes a 30 year old Center with 6 years of NBA experience who has never played more then 46 games. Thats a pretty bad sign. He needs to sign with teams that need an extra big. The Bobcats need to load up on young guys with potential if they are going to add anyone.

Did you expect otherwise? Higgins is our new Carroll for as long as daddy works here.

Derrick Caracter was cut today. I wouldn't mind giving him a run but we have no place for him.
