LeBron's PER is higher than anyone's in NBA history

Post#1 » by Nanogeek » Mon Feb 6, 2012 4:43 am

Anyone notice that LeBron's current player efficiency rating (PER) of 32.9, if he were to end the season with that rating, would be the highest any player has ever achieved?

The top ten season PERs are as follows (* means HOF players)

1. Wilt Chamberlain* 31.84 1962-63 SFW
2. Wilt Chamberlain* 31.76 1961-62 PHW
3. Michael Jordan* 31.71 1987-88 CHI
4. LeBron James 31.67 2008-09 CLE
5. Wilt Chamberlain* 31.64 1963-64 SFW
6. Michael Jordan* 31.63 1990-91 CHI
7. Michael Jordan* 31.19 1989-90 CHI
8. Michael Jordan* 31.14 1988-89 CHI
9. LeBron James 31.10 2009-10 CLE
10. David Robinson* 30.66 1993-94 SAS

that's great and all, and I hope he gets the MVP and even a scoring title

but I hope to see similar numbers in the FINALS...

If we don't win a chip all those fancy numbers won't mean sh*t. He could win the scoring title, MVP, hell even the noble peace prize, but a championship is all that really matters. Like defensewins said: "I hope to see similar #'s in the FINALS."

There's so much pressure on this guy and team to win it all(and rightfully so), I feel myself sometimes not taking a step back and really being appreciative of the fact this guy plays on OUR Heat. It wasnt long ago.. Billy F'n Owens was our best player for crying out loud!

If Lebron and the Heat can win it all this season, I see at least two more titles for Lebron when it's all said and done.

Let's get his first this season!

Lebron was the Alpha Dog against Boston and Chicago...he decided to be the sidekick against Dallas. I think he learned his lesson.

This - who really cares about PER, SUV, MIA, OTB - Championship or Bust - Put down the calculators/spreadsheets and watch the games. History has deferent eras. LBJ/Others should really only be judged by his era.

I'll accept even sub-par numbers in the finals. so long as he doesn't fall off a cliff and disappear like last year.

Also...it's amazing what going into the post and stop shooting hero 3 shots has done for his game.

Don't care for PER but statistically he's having an awesome season.

Its a shame he can't be appreciated until he throws that damn monkey off his back and beats it to death in the Finals. Dolphins fans can sympathize, Marino faced similar scrutiny.

Lebron is an incredible ball player who has an opportunity to be top five of all time. Here is the thing he is shooting 55% averaging 8+ rebounds. He is also a great defender!

Would rather see him get that FINALS Mvp, and I'm sure he agrees.PER,scoring title is nice but he could have got all that plus mvp in Cleveland and we all know why he joined Miami and it's for rings.

Nonetheless,he's still having a phenomenal season.

Hope it carries over into the playoffs. Sad he's putting up these numbers and people still don't think he's the front runner for MVP :noway:

Actually, that's technically not true, because he's never started a season this strong in his career. ;)

Yeah, I think PER is pretty crappy as a statistic generally, but one thing it IS good for is simply being a shorthand for how well and efficiently a guy is filling the boxscore, and Lebron certainly is doing that.

Loving the way he's playing this season, bulling his way inside for layups and stroking smooth outside J's. He's playing a lot like a PF at times actually. It's pretty awesome to get to watch.

I love that many are making the strawman argument of them rather winning a championship.

No one is arguing they'd rather Lebron have the highest PER instead of winning a title.

PER has its problems but if a guy has the best PER ever and is beating everyone else by 6 full points he's clearly the best player in the game and its not close, especially when he plays big minutes and is a premier defender on top of that.

A 30 PER is amazing regardless of any other factors, and Lebron is way above that.

He can get even better too. Its not like he has even been exceptionally "hot" this season either.

THE ONLY THING THAT I wanna see on LeBron resume by the end of the year is 1X NBA CHAMPION ... his number are amazing but can he keep it up for 66 games and the playoffs.
