What's with gentry's love of telfair?
Every game someone is asking this question. I don't know his plus/minus but it can't be good. Everytime he comes in the game I get ready to turn off the tv because I know things are about to go really bad.
Price seems very capable at playing the back up pg. Seems to have a higher bball IQ but apparently gentry doesn't see it that way. Does gentry not have the proper eye glass prescription or something.
I just wanna a reasonable explaination.

Explanation --> Gentry is under order to tank without looking like he is tanking. Unfortunately the Bobcats are under the same orders and out tanked us.

Oh, it's bad...
Our offense is 6.08 points per 100 possessions worse when he's on the court. Our defense is 8.32 points per 100 possessions worse when he's on the court. Grand total: we're 14.40 points per 100 possessions worse when he's on the court. Meanwhile, we're 6.18 points per 100 possessions better when Price is on the court.
So why would Telfair ever touch the court?!?

I see Gentry has taken this info into mind and is now taking tanking to a science.

Maybe, but now I want to know why he would continually take out the hot hand last year? I think he is just inept. Stern made it very clear that he doesn't like teams tanking. I don't think we can afford for Stern to dislike us anymore than he does. Basically, take whatever draft position we will be in, and add three to it. So if we are tenth, we will pick number thirteen.
Now if it appears that we are really trying, and just sucking, we may have a chance. But playing Telfair, doesn't show this.

Re: What's with gentry's love of telfair?
telfair's idea of "running an offence" is to walk the ball up the court, and to pass to whatever guy on the perimeter is open. He makes no plays, doesnt penetrate, doesnt call for screens, doesnt take advantage of switches. NOTHING. That is why our second unit is the most boring and least effective second unit in the league.
The only thing Telfair has is half a jumpshot and below-average defence.

Re: What's with gentry's love of telfair?
Preaching to the quire I have never liked Telfair or his game but I dont think we need to worry since hes on a 1 year minimum deal; I cant see him coming back. But to answer why hes getting minutes I really think the Suns are trying to tank without making it too obvious for the average fans who dont know much about the business of basketball. And if that is the case its a good thing since Keiff will get alot of minutes this year which should help him develop faster.
On the other hand the more of Price I see the more I like. granted he doesnt have the talent to be a starter in the NBA but you have to love his energy, defense and MAD HOPS. Plus he has a good attitude which is always a plus. I wouldnt mind keeping him around as a back PG while we rebuild since hes cheap and he plays hard.
I was never a Brooks fan I think he should be packaged and moved as well.

Re: What's with gentry's love of telfair?
As a Timberwolves fan, I can only thank you for keeping Telfair off of our roster. Watching him in the past has literally made me want to give up the game. "Bassy" is one of those guys you can't help but marvel at wondering how he's continued to make an NBA paycheck for so long. Telfair should be a 15th guy on a roster that only plays if you have serious depth issues at PG.
Hmm.....now that I'm thinking of it, any interest in Luke Ridnour?
On a more seious note, what is the fans' take on Phoenix potentially moving Gortat? It would make sense to me that Derrick Williams returning to Arizona would have some appeal to Phoenix ownership. Is your first rounder completely untouchable or do you think it would be up for discussion?

We won't trade Gortat for Williams and yes our first round pick is untouchable. I like the idea of Ridnour in Phoenix. Are you interested in a young point guard like Telfair?:D

We actually signed Telfair for two years, the second year being partially guaranteed.

I've liked Ridnour since Seattle - nice player. Why wouldn't you want to keep him?

But we can waive him for very little money this summer. It sure adds questions to what the FO is doing. Redd and Telfair, when we could have grabbed some young guys that just missed the draft. Instead of the guys we picked up, I would have brought SWilliams, Lighty, Janning, and Price in. And we probably could have had all of those guys for the price of Brown.

Can't see Stern disliking us more than he already does. I'm half convinced on draft nights, he has a special button in the podium for the Suns which he presses once the Suns have dropped far enough to a draft spot that he finds appropriate.
Playing Telfair is an obvious push for a higher pick. So Gentry is now also failing at tanking discretely.

I don't get that at all. We cut Lawal, a legit late 1st round prospect, and we pick up Telfair who has been a failure wherever he's been.

Our offense is 6 points per 100 possessions worse when he's on the court. Our defense is 8 points per 100 possessions worse when he's on the court. That's unbelievable. I have no idea why Telfair is playing. I think Price is fairly efficient.
It kind of reminds me of my view of Brown getting more minutes than Childress....yes, Brown is more agressive in trying to score (ala Telfair), but he isn't very good at scoring. At least Price and Childress are fairly efficient (they may end up only 2-4 in fgs, but that is much better than 4-11)

Only reason which keeps Telfair on the court is that he is better shooting than Price. Anyway i want see Price as a backup guard.

Re: What's with gentry's love of telfair?
Redd has all but solidified himself as our go to scorer off the bench (sorry Shannon) and with Morris entrenched as his sidekick, it almost makes too much sense to play Price as our backup PG.
Redd can't play D to save his life; Price is a very solid defender. Redd can manufacture scoring with the ball in his hands; Price can't run an offense to save his life (but can spot up and augment ball movement).
Once Redd gets back to 100% I wouldn't be surprised to see Price get more burn alongside him. But Gentry is the coach, so...

Im all for whatever gets the suns a top 10 lottery pick. If it means playing telfair, shannon brown and redd together go right ahead.
